This site was created by Larry Shively who is researching the history of the Shively families. The goal is to have a site where all Shively researchers can share and ask questions in regards to their Shively lines. The largest majority of the Shively family records are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. There are early records of Shively's also in Virginia and Kentucky. There are not many established Shively lineages back to Europe. There are documented lineages to Switzerland and Germany. Children Of Seraphin Shively And Wife Frances Cunningham Who Lived In Stark County, Ohio

Information on Seraphin Shively and wife, Frances Cunningham, can be found in the Shively blog written on 13-January-2012.  The children of Seraphin and Frances Shively lived in the Stark County, OH area.  Nora C. Shively died 22-June-1940 with burial in Westlawn Cemetery, Canton, OH; Caroline E. Shively died 4-May-1952 with burial in Westlawn Cemetery; Fred M. Shively died 25-March-1921 with burial in Westlawn Cemetery and Thomas C. Shively died 24-June-1947 with burial in Westlawn Cemetery.

Sunday School Class Named After Founder, Teacher
Miss Nora C. Shively a school teacher here for almost 40 years and an active worker in First Baptist church, died Saturday at 3:15 p.m. in her home, 1315 Oxford ave NW. She had been ill health for several years. Cause of death was a heart attack.
Miss Shively organized the senior Philathea Bible class which now bears her name at First Baptist church, and was teacher of the class for many years.
Surviving are: one sister, Miss Caroline E. Shively of the home and Thomas C. Shively of 212 Dartmouth ave SW.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Arnold parlors with Rev. J. H. Satterfield officiating.  Burial will be in Westlawn cemetery. Friends may call at the parlors today after 4 p.m.

Caroline Shively
Miss Caroline Shively, a Canton school teacher for 39 years, died Sunday morning in the Ilg Convalescent Home after an illness of five months.  She had spent most of her teaching years at Market School.
Born in Navarre 80 years ago, she came to Canton as a child. She resided with her sister-in-law, Mrs. Emily J. Shively of 212 Darmouth Ave. SW.
Miss Shively was a member of First Baptist Church and the Nora Shively Philathea Class.  She is survived by a nephew and two nieces.  Rev. J. H. Satterfield will conduct services Tuesday at 2 p.m. (EST) in the Formet & Clevenger funeral home at 1022 Tuscarawas St. W. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery. Calling hours are today 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

F. M. Shively Dies
Fred M. Shively, 45, died at his home, 212 Dartmouth ave SW, Friday morning.  He is survived by two sisters, Nora C. Shively and Carrie E. Shively, of the home, and one brother, Thomas C. Shively, of Akron.  He was a member of the First Baptist church and the Loyal Order of Moose.  Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the home. Rev. W. E. Bridge will officiate. Burial will be made in Westlawn cemetery.

Thomas C. Shively
Thomas C. Shively, a mechanical engineer at Grissom-Russell Co. in Massillon, died Tuesday at 9:15 p.m. in his residence at 212 Darmouth ave SW from pneumonia.
A life resident of Canton, Mr. Shively was 65 years of age.  He was a member of First Baptist Church and was a graduate of old Central High School.  He attended Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Ind., and the Lewis Institute of Engineering in Chicago.
He leaves his widow, Mrs. Emily Shively, two daughters, Mrs. William L. Miller of the home and Mrs. Herbert Zagray; one son, Eugene C. Shively; on sister, Miss Carrie Shively, all of Canton, and five grandchildren.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. J. H. Satterfield will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Arnold funeral home.  Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 tonight.

Christian Shively And Wife Susannah Heasley From Pennsylvania To Ohio To Missouri To Iowa

Christian Shively was born 1-Apr-1812 in PA and died 3-Feb-1861 in Clarke County, IA.  He married Susannah "Susan" Heasley who was born 16-Nov-1813 in Armstrong County, PA and died 27-Apr-1893 in Clarke County, IA.

Many of the early Shively families were not afraid to migrate "west" for better opportunities for their families.  Christian Shively and Susannah Heasley Shively were good examples of this western migration.  Listed on the 1850 Knox Township, Columbia County, OH census is the household of Christian Shively age 37 born PA, wife Susanna age 37 born PA, son Jacob age 10 born PA, daughter Elcha age 8 born PA, daughter Susanna age 6 born PA, son Christian age 4 born OH and son Peter age 8 months born OH. Listed on the 1860 Miami Township, Saline County, MO census is the household of Christian Shively age 47, wife Mrs. Susan age 46, son Jacob age 20, daughter Ella J. age 17, daughter Susannah age 15, son Joseph age 12, son Peter age 10, daughter Margaret age 8 and son John age 5.  Listed on the 1870 Jackson Township, Clarke County, IA census is Susan Shively age 56, son Peter H age 20, daughter Maggie age 17 and son John M age 15.

Peter H. Shively, son of Christian and Susannah Shively, is listed on the 1880 Oak Township, Smith County, KS census.  In the household are Peter age 30 and wife Anna age 20.  P. H. Shively and Deborah A. Gregg were married on 16-Apr-1879 in Clarke County, IA. Listed on the 1900 Blaine, Smith County, KS census is the household of Peter H. Shively born Nov-1849 age 50 married 21 years, wife Debby A. born Jun-1860 age 39 having borne 7 children with 6 living, son Marcus L. born May-1883 age 17, son John J. born May-1885 age 15, son Ira Elmer born Jun-1886 age 13, son Eli G. born Dec-1893 age 6, daughter Myrtle A. born Oct-1894 age 5 and son Teddy R. born Nov-1897 age 3.  Peter Henry Shively and Debra Anna Gregg are buried in Price Cemetery, Lebanon, Smith County, KS. 

The newspaper obituary for Ira Elmer Shively, son of Peter H. Shively and Deborah Gregg Shively was located in The Kansas City Times, Kansas City, Missouri, Tuesday, July 14, 1959, Page 39, Column 4:
SHIVELY -- Ira E. Shively, 71, of 5224 East Seventh, died yesterday at the Veterans hospital. He was born at Bellaire, Kas., and had lived here 48 years.  From 1933 to 1945, he was the owner of the Woodland Cash grocery store, 1716 East Eighth street, and from 1945 until his retirement in 1948, he operated the cigar stand in the lobby of the Law building, 1207 Grand avenue.  He was a Mason. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ruth Ann Shively, of the home, and two brothers, Eli G. Shively, Lebanon, Kas., and Pearl C. Shively, Jefferson City. Services will be at 2 o'clock Wednesday at the Melody-McGilley-Eylar chapel, Linwood and Woodland. Burial will be in Mount Moriah cemetery.  Friends may call at the chapel after 5 o'clock tonight.

Pearl Shively dies at local hospital
Pearl C. Shively, 74, of 1313 E. Dunlin St., died Monday at St. Mary's Health Center following a long illness. He was self-employed as a carpenter before his retirement in 1967. He was born June 12, 1901, at Bellaire, Kan., the son of Peter and Anna Gregg Shively. He was married June 28, 1924, at Makota, Kan. to Eva E. McArthur, who survives.
Mr. Shively was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Men's Club of the church and the Jefferson City Senior Citizens Club.
Other survivors include: Two sons, John Shively, Boonville, and Edward Shively, 2118 Buehrle Dr.; three daughters, Mrs. Linda Turnbull, Holts Summit, Mrs. Doris Bemboom, Indianapolis, Ind. and Mrs. Alma Nelson, Garden City, Mich.; one brother, Eli Shively, Lebanon, Kan.; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Buescher Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Michael Keith will officiate. Burial will be in the Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. 
Memorial contributions are suggested to the First United Methodist Church.

John J. Shively And Wife, Nancy Evaline Armesy, From Carroll County, Indiana To North Dakota

John J. Shively was born in Indiana on 13-Oct-1842 and died 19-Mar-1924 in Ramsey County, ND.  He was married on 7-May-1863 in Tippecanoe County, IN to Nancy Evaline Armesay.  Listed on the 1880 Clay Township, Carroll County, IN census is the household of John J Shively age 36, wife Nancy E. age 34, son William age 10 and son George age 6. Located on the 1900 City of Devils Lake, Ramsey County, ND census in the household of William Thoyer is John Shively, boarder, born Oct-1842, age 57, married 36 years and wife Evaline born Aug-1842, age 57, having given birth to 3 children of whom 2 are living. It seems John J. Shively and Evaline returned several winters to spend back in Indiana.  From the Hoosier Democrat, Flora, IN, Saturday, December 28, 1901, Page 5, Column 2 is the following entry:  John J. Shively and wife, of North Dakota, are here to spend the winter.

George Wallace Shively was the son of John J. Shively and Nancy Evaline Armesay.  George was born 26-Aug-1873 in Tippecanoe County, IN and died 6-Apr-1957.  He was married to Mary Frances Moomaw in 1895 in Butler County, NE. Mary was born 8-Mar-1874 and died 11-Oct-1953 in Lake County, OH.  She was the daughter of Jacob Peter Moomaw and Mary Margaret Zollman. Jacob P. Moomaw fought on the Confederate side during the Civil War and served in Co. D, 28 Virginia Infantry. (The Ohio death certificate for Mary F. Shively is found under her maiden name of Mary F. Moomaw.)

Listed on the 1910 Towner County, ND census is the household of George W. Shively age 36, married 14 years, wife Mary F. age 35, having given birth to 6 children and all 6 children living, son Arthur W. age 13, son John age 11, son Owen age 9, daughter Fern age 8, son David age 5, and son Clarence age 4.  At least one additional daughter, Marguerite, was born after the 1910 census.

Additional information was found regarding some of the children of George Shively and Mary Moomaw.  John P. D. Shively and brother Owen Daniel Shively are buried in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Bozeman, Gallatin County, MT.  Clarence Chester Shively also lived in Montana.  Their sister, Fern Shively Storey, is listed in 1933 as living in Fairfield, Jefferson County, Iowa.  The following news article was found in the Fairfield Daily Ledger, Fairfield, Iowa, Monday, July 31, 1933, Page 17, Column 4:

David Shively Killed By Lightning At Wisconsin Home
David Shively of Carryville, Wis., a brother of Mrs. H. I. Storey of Fairfield, was killed by lightning Saturday evening while working in the harvest fields near his home.  Mr. and Mrs. Storey left this morning for Carryville, where they will attend the funeral.  They stopped at Des Moines to get another site, Mrs. John Ford.

Marguerite E. "Peg" Whitham Uzon, age 97, passed away Friday, August 7, 2009 at Worthington Christian Village with her family by her side.  She was born May 23, 1912 in Olmsted, ND.
Preceded in death by parents G. W. and Mary Shively, five brothers, Art, John, Owen, David and Clarence Shively and one sister, Fern Storey, and husbands Lloyd Whitham and Peter Uzon.   Survived by sons, Michael (Connie) Whitham of Columbus, Tom (Kay) Whitham of Flagstaff, AZ; grandsons, Christopher (Brandy) Whitham, Shea Whitham: granddaughter, Hilary Whitham; great-granddaughter, Stella Whitham; many nephews and nieces. 
She graduated from high school in Fairfield, IA in 1930.  She married Lloyd Whitham on July 26, 1936. Peg worked with her husband in their Agency, IA nursery and garden center for 40 years.
Peg brought joy and most of all laughter and fun to all who knew her.  She was a devout follower of Christ.  The family would like to thank all of the wonderful people from Worthington Christian Village. And special thanks to Debbie VanEckartsberg for her years of love and service.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the Worthington Christian Village Chapel, Worthington, Ohio.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Worthington Christian Village, 165 Highbluffs Blvd, Worthington, OH 43235. Jacob Shively And Wife, Harriet Pricilla Stone, Who Lived In Henry County, Iowa

Jacob Shively was born 27-May-1851 in Henry County, Iowa and died 20-Feb-1909 in Henry County, Iowa.  He was married on 14-May-1872 to Harriett Pricilla Stone. She was born Aug-1851 and died 7-Jul-1928.  Both are buried in the Wayland Methodist Church Cemetery in Wayland, Henry County, Iowa.  Jacob Shively was the son of Joel Shively and Naomi Arnold.  Harriett P. Stone was the daughter of John F. Stone and Mary Ann Price.

Listed on the 1880 Jefferson Township, Henry County, Iowa census is the household of Jacob Shively age 29, wife Harriet P age 28, daughter Anna age 7, son David age 4, daughter Eva age 3 and daughter Ella age 1. On the 1900 Jefferson Township, Henry County, Iowa census is the household of Jacob Shively born May-1851 age 49, wife Harriett P born Aug-1851 age 48, daughter Mary born Nov-1880 age 19, daughter Lucretia born Oct-1882 age 17, son Judson born Jun-1887 age 12, son Arnold born Feb-1889 age 11, grand daughter Eva Neyens born May-1896 age 4, servant David Edwards born Mar-1877 age 23.

Death Of Jacob Shively
Jacob Shively, a prominent and well to do farmer of Henry County, died this morning at 5 o'clock after an illness of about four days duration at his home hear Coppock. He was born in Henry county in 1851, where he lived until the time of his death. The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the residence, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Ballard. Interment will be in the Wayland cemetery.

Held At Wayland
(Special To The Hawk-Eye) Wayland, Ia., July 10 -- The funeral services for the late Mrs. Harriet Shively were held from the home last Monday afternoon with the Rev. Pritchard in charge assisted by Rev. Polk.
Mrs. Shively, aged 76, had been a resident of this community for many years and before the death of her husband, Jacob Shively, lived on a farm near Coppock where the family of nine children were born, of whom six children and the husband have preceded her in death.
She has lived in Wayland since the death of her husband.  She enjoyed the comforts of her home with her family about her.  About a month ago she suffered a severe attack of influenza from which she never recovered.  The children who remain to mourn the loss of their mother are Mrs. Mary Ballard of Wayland, Mrs. Crete McKune of Washington and Dave Shively of Burlington, with numerous grandchildren, a few great-grandchildren and a large circle of old friends.
For many years she has been a member of the W. B. church at Cottonwood. Interment was in the family lot in the Wayland cemetery.
