This site was created by Larry Shively who is researching the history of the Shively families. The goal is to have a site where all Shively researchers can share and ask questions in regards to their Shively lines. The largest majority of the Shively family records are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. There are early records of Shively's also in Virginia and Kentucky. There are not many established Shively lineages back to Europe. There are documented lineages to Switzerland and Germany. Samuel Shively And Wife, Letitia Bender, Who Lived In Richland County, Ohio

J. Elliott and family ate their Thanksgiving dinner with Mrs. S. Shively and family.

John Franklin Elliott and Ada Shively were married in Richland County on 21-Oct-1886. Ada Shively was the daughter of Samuel Shively and Letitia Bender. 

Located on the 1860 Mifflin Township, Ashland County, Ohio census is the household of Samuel Shively age 26, wife Lettie age 25, son Franklin age 4, son Wm. C. age 3 and son Morris H. age 1. Listed on the 1870 Mifflin Township, Ashland County, Ohio is the family of Samuel Shively age 36, wife Luticia age 35, son William age 12, daughter Orvil age 9, daughter Elizabeth age 7, daughter Emma J. age 6, daughter Ada age 4, son John age 2, daughter Helen age 3 months and Dinna Bender age 25. Found on the 1880 Weller Township, Richland County, Ohio census is Samuel Shively age 46, wife Letitia age 44, son A. Frank age 23, son C. William age 22, son H. Morris age 21, daughter B. Ora age 19, daughter M. Lizze age 17, daughter J. Emma age 16, daughter Ada age 14, son John age 12, daughter Hellen age 10, daughter Effie age 8, daughter Hattie age 6, and son Eddie age 3.

Samuel Shively was born 2-Mar-1834 and died 4-Jan-1896. He was married to Letitia Bender on 11-Mar-1855 in Ashland County, OH. Letitia was the daughter of George Bender and Maria Stoop. Samuel and Letitia are buried in Pavonia Cemetery, Richland County, OH.

Perry Nicholas Shively And Wife Mary Jane Carroll Who Lived In Summit And Cuyahoga County, Ohio

Perry Nicholas Shively was born on 21-Nov-1859 in Cuyahoga Falls, Summit County, Ohio and died 26-Feb-1933 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. He is buried in Markillie Cemetery, Hudson, Summit County, Ohio.  Perry was the son of Andrew J. Shively and Sarah Ackroyd Jones. (For more information on Andrew and Sarah Shively view the Shively blog article written on 22-Aug-2015).  Perry Nicholas Shively was married to Mary Jane Carroll on 1-Sep-1880 in Portage County, Ohio. She was the daughter of John Carroll and (first name not known) O'Connor.  Mary Jane Carroll was born 14-Aug-1855 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio and died 26-Sep-1944 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio.

Listed on the 1900 Hudson Township, Summit County, Ohio census is the household of Perry N. Shively born Nov-1859, age 40, a blacksmith, wife Mary J. born Aug-1857 age 42, daughter Angie born Feb-1882 age 18, son George A. born Jul-1888 age 11, son Carroll H born Jun-1893 age 6, son Andrew P. born Mar-1896 age 4, and son Donald born Aug-1898 age 1.  Located on the 1910 Hudson Village, Summit County, Ohio census is the family of Perry N. Shively age 49, wife Mary J. age 50, son George age 21, son Carroll age 16, son Andrew age 13, son Donald age 11 and son Perry age 1.

The following newspaper obituary was located in The Akron Beacon Journal, Tuesday, February 28, 1933, Page 21, Column 1:
Perry N. Shively Dies At Lakewood
HUDSON, Feb. 23 --  Perry N. Shively, 73, former Hudson resident, died at his home in Lakewood, late Saturday after a long illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning in St. James church of Lakewood. Father Gaffney of St. Mary's church of Hudson will conduct the burial services at the Markilee cemetery.
Shively is survived by his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Lew Kline; six sons, George, Carroll, Andrew, Donald, and Perry Jr.; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Martin, of Akron, and Mrs. Charles Morril of Jeannette, Pa.; and a brother, George Shively. The funeral will be held Tuesday morning in Lakewood, O.
Shively was born and reared in Hudson and spent most of his life here.  He conducted a blacksmith and wagon making shop on Main st.

Daniel Royal Shively And 1st Wife Maud M Furley And 2nd Wife Nannie E Carter From Jefferson County, Ohio

Daniel Royal Shively was born on 30-Jan-1873 (Jefferson County, OH Birth Register Volume 1, 1867-1879). He was the son of John Shively And Sarah Jane "Jennie" Wolf. (The Jefferson County, OH marriage record lists John Shively and Sarah Ann Wolf married 2-Oct-1857. In other records she is listed as Sarah Jane or "Jennie"). Daniel Royal Shively was married 1st to Maud M Furley on 20-Nov-1897 in Beaverhead County, Montana. Maud Furley was born 18-Aug-1878 and died 10-Jun-1916, buried Mountain View Cemetery, Park County, Montana. Daniel R Shively was married 2nd to Nannie E. Carter on 14-May-1911 in Ada County, Idaho.  Daniel R. Shively died 21-Dec-1937 and is buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Los Angeles County, California.

Listed on the 1870 Saline Township, Jefferson County, OH census is the household of John Shively age 36, wife Jenny age 33, son William age 13, son Edward age 12, son Charles age 9 and daughter Clara N age 7.  Listed on the 1880 Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah census is the household of John Shively age 43, wife Sarah J age 43, son Charles E age 19, daughter Clara N age 17 and son Daniel R age 8. On the 1900 Yellowstone County, Wyoming census is the family of Dan R Shively born 30-Jan-1872 age 28 and wife Maud M born 8-Aug-1878. 

Daniel R Shively could not be located on the 1910  census records.  Maud Furley Shively is listed in the household of her parents on the 1910 Sweet Grass County, Montana. Listed are Joseph B. Furley age 53, his second wife Eva D age 42 and daughter Maude Chively age 31 listed as married 12 years and no children.  Maud is buried in the Mountain View Cemetery and the headstone names her as Maud Furley not Shively.  At the time of her death in 1916 Daniel had been married 5 years to Nannie E. Carter.

Listed on the 1924 Los Angeles City Precinct No. 33 list of registered voters are the names of Dan R Shively employed as a shovel fireman and Mrs. Nannie E Shively employed in millinery.  Listed on the 1930 Los Angeles City Precinct No. 1775 list of registered voters are the names of Dan R Shively and Mrs. Nannie E. Shively.

Bert Glenn Shively Who Lived In Jasper County, Missouri to Canyon County, Idaho To Kitsap County, Washington

In the records of Jasper County, MO there are found the surnames Shivley and Shively. The lineage of Bert Glenn Shively contains both names.  Bert Glenn Shively was born on 22-Nov-1895 in Duenweg, Jasper County, MO.  He died on 16-Apr-1969 in Bremerton, Kitsap County, WA. Bert was the son of George Annanias Shively (Shivley) and Lillie J. Corwin. George and Lillie were married in Jasper County, MO on 28-Apr-1894.  This marriage did not last long as Lillie J. Shiveley married a second time in Jasper County, MO to Victor Clayton Perry on 11-Mar-1898. George A. Shively did not pass away until 11-Jun-1944.

Located on the 1900 Joplin Township, Jasper County, Missouri is the household of Victor C Perry age 26 born Nov-1873, wife Lillie age 23 born Dec-1876, stepson Bertie Shivley age 4 born Nov-1895, daughter Laura Perry age 1 born Dec-1898.  Listed on the 1910 Meridian Precinct, Ada County, Idaho is the household of Victor C. Perry age

Bert Shively was married first to Ruth Steensma on 14-Apr-1915 in Canyon County, ID.  He was married second to Elizabeth Morin in 1944 in Kitsap County, WA.  The following newspaper article was located in The Caldwell Tribune, Caldwell, Idaho, Friday, April 23, 1915, Page 10, Columns 4-5:  Wednesday afternoon, April 14th at 3:30 o'clock at the home of Priest Marks in Nampa occurred the wedding of Miss Ruth Steensma and Mr. Bertram Shiveley.  The bride wore a beautiful dress of white embroidered voile.  Miss Eleanor Prosser was the bridesmaid and was also attired in white voile. Mr. Botkin of Nampa was best man. Those present at the ceremony were Mr. and Mrs. V Perry, Mrs. Hoofnagel, Laura Perry and Clifford Barnhart.  The bride and groom will make their home in Riverside. The community extends hearty congratulations and best wishes.

Wednesday evening a crowd of young folks met at the Shiveley home in Riverside and serenaded them with tin-pan music.  After Mr. and Mrs. Shiveley had stood as much of the music as they could they invited the crowd in and gave them the treats. The crowd soon left after wishing the bride and groom much happiness.

The marriage certificate of George Shivley and Lillian Corwine is given the consent from the father of the groom.  The certificate records "H C Shivley the father of George Shivley has given consent to this marriage".  

The newspaper obituary for George Shively does not mention his son, Bert Shively, in the article.  Located in the Joplin News Herald, Joplin, Missouri, Monday, June 12, 1944, Page 2, Column 2:
George Shively, 66, Lifelong Resident Of District, Dies
George Shively, 66 years old, of Oakland, a lifelong resident of the district, died at 10:30 o'clock Sunday morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Robert Leggett, 2127 Kentucky avenue.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Oakland Christian church with the Rev. John Morgan officiating.
The body will lie in state at the church from 1 o'clock until the funeral hour.  Burial will be in Forest Park cemetery under the direction of the Webb City Undertaking Company. Pallbearers will be P. J. Seersick, Gus Nelson, Henry Hasseltine, Ambrose Cook, Bert Craig and Leon Woosley.
Surviving besides the daughter are a son, Chester H. Shively of Talogo, Okla,; a stepson, George Beaty of Kansas City, and seven grandchildren.

Information regarding the grandfather of Bert Glenn Shively was found in The History Of Jasper County, Missouri, History Of Carthage And Joplin, Other Towns And Townships, Illustrated, Mills & Company, Des Moines, Iowa, 1883, pages 773-774:
HENRY C. SHIVELY, farmer, was born in Columbia county, Pa., Sept 22, 1847, and was there raised. His father, George, is a farmer, and is still living in Pennsylvania. The subject of this sketch was married in April, 1868, to Emma Greninger, who was born and raised in Clinton county, Pa. She died in September, 1872. Mr. Shively was married again Jan. 1, 1874, to Minerva J. Spencer, who was born in Jasper county March 31, 1844. Their children are Rachel C., George A., Effie M., and one not living. Mr. Shively is a member of the Evangelical Church and Mrs. S. of the Christian. Mr. Shively came to Jasper county in 1868. He lived for a time in Oregon, and in California until within the last six years. He owns a good farm of eighty acres and raises good crops; also has a small young orchard; he has devoted some time to mining at Joplin. Mrs. Shively, being born and raise in the county, has seen some of its hardships and the stirring scenes of the war. She has carried meals to the men concealed in the brush during the war, and her father's house was burned down, and they were compelled to leave at night. This farm in is section 15, township 27, range 31, Jackson township.
