This site was created by Larry Shively who is researching the history of the Shively families. The goal is to have a site where all Shively researchers can share and ask questions in regards to their Shively lines. The largest majority of the Shively family records are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. There are early records of Shively's also in Virginia and Kentucky. There are not many established Shively lineages back to Europe. There are documented lineages to Switzerland and Germany. Through the sharing of information from all of our research it is desired that all can learn about our Shively families.

The following newspaper article appeared in the Columbus Dispatch, Columbus, Ohio, Sunday, December 31, 1951, Page 10A, Column 4:
Charleston Man Hunts 7 Uncles
Kenneth R. Shively of Charleston, W.Va., is devoting part of the holiday season trying to locate seven uncles whom he has never seen. Helping him with his search is his father-in-law, K. R. Beckner, of 796 E. Mound St.
Shively moved to West Virginia from Oregon with scant information about his uncles, only that they are believed to be farmers in and around Pickaway County.  All, of course,  are named Shively but only two first names are known, Carl and Ray.
Shively can be reached at 416 Reynolds Av, Apt. C, Charleston, W.Va.

A related article followed in the Columbus Dispatch, Sunday, January 6, 1952, Page 1, Columns 2-3:
Was Searching For 7 Uncles,
Story Turns Up Half-Brother
He was looking for seven uncles to celebrate the holiday season and found a half-brother! That's what happened when a Charleston W.Va. man asked his father-in-law, K. R. Beckner, of 796 E. Mound St. to help locate seven uncles whom he had never seen.
Beckner told The Dispatch about it, and the story appeared Sunday, Dec. 23.
Beckner said Saturday that while the uncles were not found, the story led to the location of a half-brother in Worthington, who was thought to have died some years ago.
The newly found relative was identified as Donald B. Shively of 100 W. Riverglen Dr., Worthington, half brother of Kenneth R. Shively of Charleston, W. Va., Beckner's son-in-law.
According to Beckner, a series of letters and phone calls got under way following the story in the Dispatch two weeks ago. The climax came Friday night when the West Virginian learned of his half-brother at Worthington.
Happy over finding a half-brother, the Charleston W. Va., man has redoubled his efforts to locate the seven uncles.
Shively moved to West Virginia from Oregon with scant information about his uncles, only that they are believed to be farmers in and around Pickaway County. All, of course, are named Shively but only two names are known, Carl and Ray.
Kenneth Shively can be reached at 416 Reynolds Av., Apt. C, Charleston W. Va.

Shively.  The obituary of Stella mentions that Hamer Charles Shively was working and living in Idaho at the time of her death.  Charles Shively married second to Nellie Gertrude Garlick in 1919. Nellie was born 20-Jun-1893 in Quick Front, Nebraska and died 26-Sep-1967, the daughter of John F. Garlick and Sarah J. Garber. One of the sons of this union was Kenneth R. The uncles that Kenneth Shively was searching for were the sons of Isaac Shively and Elmira Fitzwater.  The sons were George Angell Shively, Edward Shively, WIlliam Shively, Joseph Shively, Walter Shively, David Carl Shively, Royale Shively.  For additional information on these familes review the blog article written on 12-Sep-2015 about Issac Shively and Elmira Fitzwater, the blog article written on 4-Jun-2016 about George Angell Shively and the blog article written on 24-Dec-2016 about Joseph Shively.

Carolyn M. Kippenberger Shively
A unique genealogy request was recently received. The request was from a present homeowner who lives in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio in the home where Philip Kippenberger once lived and had his business. The home is at 2225 E. Fifth Street in Dayton. Philip Kippenberger was a tailor and had a shop on the lower floor while the family lived on the second floor.  Philip Kippenberger's daughter, Carolyn M. Kippenberger married Alvin Edward Shively. The homeowner would like to locate any old photo's taken on or of the Kippenberger property. The desire is to obtain and frame the pictures and display in her home. From the research it was discovered there are still living descendants of the Alvin Shively and Carolyn Kippenberger union living in the Dayton, Ohio area.

Following is the genealogy research that was found.  Christian Schaeufele was born 20-Apr-1859 in Germany a son of John Schaeufele and Louise Schiese. He immigrated to the United States from Germany in 1884.  Christian Schaeufele married Rosa Steinbrenner on 5-Oct-1886 in Montgomery County, Ohio. Christian died on 10-Sep-1930 and was buried in Woodland Cemetery.  His wife, Rosa Steinbrenner Schaeufele died in 1954.  They had at least the three following children:  1) John F. Philip Kippenberger was born 3-May-1862 in Germany. He immigrated to the United States from Germany in 1887. Philip Kippenberger married Mary Hock ca. 1890. He died 18-Apr-1944 and was buried in Woodland Cemetery. His wife, Mary Hock Kippenberger was born 17-Oct-1854 in Germany and died 19-Aug-1925 and is buried in Woodland Cemetery.  They had one daughter, Carolyn M. Kippenberger who was born 24-Jun-1897 and died 14-May-1991.  Carolyn's marriage to Alvin Edward Shively may have been her second marriage. Her first husband might have been Walter L. Miller having been married 1st on 6-Sep-1918 in Lucas County, Ohio.

He was an architect, having attended school at Cincinnati to perfect his ability in that line, but owing to the fact that he was compelled to leave his work at school on account of illness and come home, he had never made this work his business.

Translation to English.
Ida Rosa Schaeufele
The office of Mr. Christian Schäufle and wife at Samuel street was deserted by the death of his  beloved and only daughter Ida at the age of 17, 2 months and 23 days. She, who was a picture of freshness and health, fell ill a year ago with lung disease. All that could be done for their salvation was done; But in vain. On that day, she was saved from her painful and painful sufferings, which she bore with patience.
She was born and raised in Dayton.
On their coffins the grieved parents and two brothers, John and Alvin, mourned as well as a great circle of friends; For her kind and amiable nature made her popular with all who knew her.
