Her father, William Merrill was my 2nd great grandfather. Alla's brother, Orrie was my great grandfather and his son, Hallie - my grandfather.<br /><br />When I was a little girl, my family visited the McAvoy family. I'm guessing it was in the 1950s as Alla had already passed away and John was living with his daughter, Welcome, and the McAvoy family.<br /><br />I remember that John's face was disfigured, the result of the tornado that took his children. I also remember that he made, and let us play with a number of wooden toys including one with a propeller on the end that spun when a stick was passed over the ridged dowel it was fastened to. There was also a dancing man, suspended from a dowel with strings and standing on a flat paddle. When John tapped the dowel, the figure danced. I was enthralled and remember it even today. I will be 79 years old in three weeks.<br /><br />I am Connie Merrill Schachel, daughter of Eugene Merrill.
