This site was created by Larry Shively who is researching the history of the Shively families. The goal is to have a site where all Shively researchers can share and ask questions in regards to their Shively lines. The largest majority of the Shively family records are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. There are early records of Shively's also in Virginia and Kentucky. There are not many established Shively lineages back to Europe. There are documented lineages to Switzerland and Germany. Through the sharing of information from all of our research it is desired that all can learn about our Shively families.

George Schaufele And Regina (Rachael) Cutler Who Lived In Ionia County, Michigan

George Schaufele (Shively) was born ca. 1823 in Wurttemburg, Germany and died on 17-Jun-1885 in Ionia County, MI.  George was married to Regina (Rachael) Cutler.  Located on the 1870 Easton, Ionia County, MI census is the family of George Schaufele age 42, wife Jennie age 39, son John age 16, son George age 14, daughter Sophia age 8, daughter Christiana age 4 and daughter Barbara age 3. Listed on the 1880 Easton, Ionia County, MI census is the household of George Shively age 55, wife Mary age 50, daughter Sophia age 18, daughter Christina age 15 and daughter Barbara age 12. Listed on the 1890 Veterans census in 1st ward, city of Ionia, Ionia County, MI is Regina, widow of George Schaufele. 

George Schaufele (Shively) and Regina (Rachael) Cutler were the parents of at least the following children:  1) John Schaufele (Shively) born Sept-1854, died 31-Jan-1927 in Grand Rapids, Kent County, MI, married to Jennie Lohrmann on 6-Oct-1878 in Ionia County, MI 2) George Schaufele, Jr died 18-Apr-1919 in Grand Rapids, Kent County, MI, married Jessie Phillips on 8-Oct-188 in Ionia County, MI 3) Sophia Schaufele born 7-Mar-1862 died 4-Jun-1912 in Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, MI, married 1st to John H. Cutler on 2-Mar-1887 in Ionia County, MI and maried 2nd to John Deuack(DeKuak) on 7-Nov-1895 4) Christiana Shively born 25-Oct-1864 died 5-Feb-1926 in Grand Rapids, Kent County, MI and 5) Barbara Schaufele died 9-Feb-1933, married to Peter J. Shellhorn on  27-Aug-1890 in Ionia County, MI.

Additional information was found in the Lansing State Journal, Lansing, Michigan, Monday, February 8, 1926, Page 9, Column 4:
Miss Tena Shively
Miss Tena Shively, died last Thursday, at her sister-in-laws, Mrs. Jessie Shively, 737 Prince street, Grand Rapids. Heart trouble was the cause. Miss Shively and niece, Mrs. Glen Gould of Ionia, had just returned a few days before from a visit with Miss Shively's sister at Minneapolis, Minn.
Miss Shively was a resident in Lansing for about 25 years and was employed at the state capitol for 15 years. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. P. J. Shelhorn at Minneapolis, a brother, John Shively of Grand Rapids, and sister-in-law, Mrs. Jessie Shively of Grand Rapids; three nieces and three nephews, and a number of relatives at Ionia.
Funeral was held at Lyzen's chapel at Grand Rapids, Saturday.

Emil Schively And Mary Niegg Who Lived In Buffalo County, Minnesota

Emil Schively was born on 7-Apr-1854 in Nelson, Buffalo County, MN and died 25-Mar-1942 in Wabasha, Wabasha County, MN.  He was the son of Christian Schively (Schaublein) and Ann B. Sturzenegger.  Emil Schively married Mary Niegg on 22-Feb-1892, daughter of Joseph and Mary Markadont Niegg.  Mary Niegg was born 11-Sep-1879 in Wabasha County, MN and died 30-Sep-1975.  Mary married 2nd George Scheer after the death of Emil Schively.  

Listed on the 1910 Town of Nelson, Buffalo County, MN census is the family of Emil Schaublin age 50, wife Mary age 30, son Fredrick age 12, daughter Hazel age 7 and daughter Amy M. age 1 year and 6 months.  Located on the 1920 Nelson, Buffalo County, MN census is the household of Emil Schively age 62, wife Marrie N. age 40, son Fred age 22, daughter Hazel age 16, daughter Amy age 11, son Walter age 8 and son Portor aget 6.

Nelson Township's First White Child, Emil Schively, Dies
Nelson, Wis. - (Special) - Emil Schively (Schaeublin), 82, Wabasha, former resident and first white child born in the town of Nelson, died at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the home of his son Fred of Wabasha, where he recently had been making his home.
Mr. Schively, son of Christian and Barbara Stutznegger Schaeublin, was born April 7, 1859, in the town of Nelson.
He married Mary Nigg of Wabasha February 22, 1892.  They lived on a farm about one mile north of Nelson which they later sold to Ben Larson. Afterward they spent two years at Rollingstone and then several years in the state of Washington. Coming back to Nelson, Mr. Schively made his home for several years at the Claude Hetrick home. During the last two years, he spent part of the time at the Carl Haugen home.
He is survived by the following children: Fred of Wabasha, Mrs. Charles (Hazel) Mathias and Porter of Winona, and Mrs. Henry (Amy) Darling of Quincy, Ill. A son Water drowned at Winona last summer.
Funeral arrangements were being completed today.  Burial my take place at Nelson.

Emil Schively, 89, Buried At Nelson
Nelson, Wis. -- (Special) -- Funeral services for Emil Schively, 87, town of Nelson, who died Wednesday at the home of his son Frederick at Wabasha after an illness of three months, were conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at the community hall here, the Rev. Edward Mohr officiating.
Mr. Schively, son of Christ and Barbara Schively, was born in the town of Nelson April 7, 1854, and lived in the community all his life. He married Mary Niegg February 22, 1895. They had five children. Mr. Schively was one of a family of six children. He had been in failing health for three months.
Survivors are four children, Frederick of Wabasha, Mrs. Charles (Hazel) Mathias of Winona; Mrs. Henry (Amy) Darling of Quincy, Ill., and Porter of Rollingstone; nine grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Sophia Walwirth of Portland, Ore. One son, Walter, and four sisters, Mary, Sarah, Rose and Rosetta , are dead.
Those from out-of-town who attended the services included Philip and Louis White and the latter's son of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Birmingham and Mr. and Mrs. Noble Birmingham of Holcomb, Wis., Mrs. Minnie Schively and Claude Harper of Downsville, Wis. and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Mathias and daughter Loretta and John and Peter Niegg, Wabasha.

The following was found in The Winona Daily News, Winona, Minnesota, Wednesday, October 1, 1975, Page 17, Column 5:
Mrs. Mary A. Scheer
Mrs. Mary A. Scheer, 96, a resident of Snyder Nursing Home, Rushville, Ill., died at 7:20 a.m. Tuesday at Culbertson Hospital, Rushville. She was a former Winona resident.
The daughter of Joseph and Mary Markadont Niegg, she was born at Wabasha, Minn., Sept 11, 1879. She married Emil Schively. He died in March 1942. She married George Scheer. He died in May, 1957. She was a former member of Winona Neville-Lein Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1287 auxiliary.
Survivors are: two sons, Fred and John Shively, Wabasha, Minn.; one daughter, Mrs. Barbara Darling, Vermont, Ill.; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. One son, one daughter, six brothers and four sisters have died.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Martin Funeral Chapel, Winona, the Rev. Robert Wiseman officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Friends may call Thursday after 7 p.m. and Friday from 1 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home.

John And Anna Shively From Switzerland To Dunn County, Wisconsin

John Shively was born ca. 1818 in Switzerland and died in Nov-1893 in Downsville, Dunn County, WI.  John was married to Anna (last name unknown) who was born ca. 1825 in Switzerland and died 31-Aug-1900 in Downsville, Dunn County, WI.

Listed on the 1860 Town of Dunn, Dunn County, WI census are John Sheibley age 39 occupation of carpenter, wife Anna age 35, daughter Eliza age 6, daughter Mary age 4 and daughter Amelia age 1. Located on the 1870 Dunn County, WI census is the household of Jno. Shively age 51, wife Anna age 44, daughter Eliza age 16, daughter Mary age 13, daughter Amelia age 11, daughter Matilda age 9, daughter Rosena age 6 and son Fred age 4. Recorded on the 1880 Downsville Township 27, Dunn County, WI census is the family of John Shively age 60 occupation of wagon maker, wife Anna age 56, daughter Matilda age 18, daughter Rosana age 16, son John F. age 14, boarder William age 50 occupation of blacksmith, boarder William McIvor age 21 occupation of works in mill and boarder Edward Petterson age 21 occupation of works in mill.

John Shively, for thirty-seven years a resident of Downsville, died at his home in that city, Nov. 6, aged 75 years. The deceased was a mill-wright and for many years was in the employ of Knapp, Stont & Co. Company. He was anniversally esteemed for sterling integrity and kindness of heart, and leaves many friends to mourn his death.

Elizabeth Shively was born Dec. 18, 1855, at Reeds Landing, Minn. Nineteen years later she was married to Jacob Kistner, who preceded her in death twenty-eight years ago. To them were born six children, three of whom are living: Fred, Maud and Freeman. They were with her at the time of her death.

2) Located in The Dunn County News, Menomonie, Wisconsin, Thursday, December 30, 1926, Page 5, Column 2:
Mary Anna Shively was born in Eau Galle on March 29, 1856. She came to Downsville with her parents when she was three years old. She was baptized in the German Lutheran church in 1862.
She was married at Downsville on May 2, 1878, to Louis O. Harper, who died 34 years ago. To this union were born two children: Claude M. Harper, Downsville, and Hazel E. Harper, Alameda, Cal.  She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Amelia Kistner and Mrs. William McIvor, and a brother, Fred Shively, all of Downsville. 
Mrs. Mary Harper joined the Rebekah lodge 39 years ago and had until her death been a faithful member of that order.

3) The following was in The Dunn County News, Menomonie, Wisconsin, Thursday, January 24, 1935, Page 7, Column 2:
Mrs. Amelia Kistner
Mrs. Amelia Kistner, a resident of the town of Dunn, died Friday morning Jan. 18, at six o'clock at the City hospital where she had been a patient for nine weeks. Old age complications caused her death.
The funeral was held Monday afternoon at one o'clock from the Hintzman Funeral Chapel and two o'clock at the Downsville church with Rev. John M. Woerth, pastor of Frieden's Lutheran church, in charge of the services. Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.
Mrs. Kistner was a faithful wife and mother. She was loved by all who knew her and those who called at her home always received a helping hand and kind deeds. She was a Christian and will be sadly missed by her family and relatives. She was the last of the older generation of the Shively and Kistner families to be called to the great beyond.Besides her two children, Mrs. Kistner leaves to mourn her loss, five grandchildren, Norman Johnson, Orlie, Jaeger, Violet and Opal Straton.

Mrs. William McIvor
Mrs. William McIvor of Downsville died at her home Friday afternoon, Sept. 28, after an illness of about six years. Funeral services were conducted at the Lutheran church in Downsville Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock by the Rev. John M. Woerth, pastor of Friedens Lutheran church. Burial was made in the Rose Hill cemetery.
Mathilda Shively was born in Downsville Feb. 14, 1861 and has lived in Downsville practically her entire life. She was united in marriage to William McIvor at Downsville in 1883. To them were born six children, two having died in infancy.
Surviving are her husband, four sons, Guy of New York City, Lloyd and Marshall of Downsville, and Noble of White Bear, Minn.; one sister, Mrs. Andrew Kistner, of Downsville, and one brother, Fred Shively, of Downsville.

5) Rosena Shively was born 29-Jan-1862 and died 5-Jun-1896. She is buried in Rosehill Cemetery, Menomonie,  Dunn County, WI.

6) The following was found in The Dunn County News, Menomonie, Wisconsin, Thursday, December 7, 1933, Page 6, Column 1:
Fred Shively
Fred Shively, a resident of Downsville all his life, died Monday evening, Dec. 4, at 8:30 o'clock at the City hospital, following an operation. He was 67 years old. Funeral services were held this afternoon at one o'clock from the home and at 1:30 o'clock at the German Lutheran church, Rev. John M. Woerth officiated. Burial was made in Rose Hill cemetery.
Mr. Shively was born in Downsville April 1, 1866, and resided there all his life. He was married in Menomonie Aug. 10, 1895 to Sarah Minerva Van Allen. Three sons were born to this union.
Until three years ago, Mr. Shively was a road patrolman for 14 years.
He is survived by his wife, three sons, Gilbert and Ivan of Milwaukee, and Darcy, at home and one sister, Amelia Kistner, Downsville. Three sisters preceded him in death.
