SHIVELY:--John Shively, an aged veteran of the Civil war, died Thursday, Aug. 26th., at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Cyrus Tice, of Howard, from infirmities due to his advanced age. He was a native of Wurtemburg, Germany, and was aged 85 years, 7 months and 12 days. He came to America when 17 years of age and proved himself a good citizen. He served in the same regiment in the Civil war as the late Henry Robb, also a widely known veteran of Howard. His wife, formerly Miss Charlotte Ewing, died some years ago. Since then he has made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Tice. He is survived by three children; Mrs. Cyrus Tice, Howard; Edward Shively, who resides on the homestead farm in Taylor Twp., and Mrs. Harvey Moore, who resides near the homestead. Funeral services were conducted at the Tice home last Tuesday evening by Rev. R. F. Gass, of the Reformed church, and the remains taken to Philipsburgh, where interment was made. Deceased was a chartered member of the Philipsburg lodge I.O.O.F but in later years had his membership transferred to Osceola Lodge, No. 747.
