This site was created by Larry Shively who is researching the history of the Shively families. The goal is to have a site where all Shively researchers can share and ask questions in regards to their Shively lines. The largest majority of the Shively family records are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. There are early records of Shively's also in Virginia and Kentucky. There are not many established Shively lineages back to Europe. There are documented lineages to Switzerland and Germany. Through the sharing of information from all of our research it is desired that all can learn about our Shively families.

Samuel W. Shively And Cora Bell Wells Who Lived In Bourbon County, Kentucky

Samuel W. Shively was born on 13-Dec-1869 in Adams County, OH and died 17-Jun-1940 in Paris, Bourbon County, KY. He was the son of James Shiveley (1811-1873) and his second wife Elizabeth Darby (1841-1873). This was the married name of Elizabeth as she was married 1st to William M. Darby.  Samuel W. Shively was married to Cora Bell Wells who was born on 10-Jun-1871 in Robertson County, KY and died 22-Jun-1966 in Fayette County, KY.  Cora Bell was the daughter of William M. Wells and Elizabeth Cord. Samuel W. Shively and Cora Bell Wells were the parents of 2 sons: 1) Wallace R. Shively born 12-Jul-1897 in Versailles, Woodford County, KY and died 21-Mar-1938 in Detroit, Wayne County, MI and 2) Harold Soden Shively (Shiveley) born 4-Dec-1901 in Versailles, Woodford County, KY and died 22-Mar-1928 in Detroit, Wayne County, MI.

Samuel W. Shively had was a grocer and meat merchant in Paris, Bourbon County, KY. The newspaper obituary for Samuel was located in The Lexington Herald, Lexington, Kentucky, Wednesday, June 19, 1940, Page 14, Column 1:

PARIS, Ky., June 18 (Special) -- Funeral services for S. W. Shively, 70, retired grocer and meat merchant, who died last night, will be held at the Hinton-Turner funeral home at 3:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. Rhodes Thompson officiating. Burial will be in the Paris cemetery. The body will be at the funeral home until after the services.
Mr. Shively was a native of Adams county, Ohio, and had resided in Paris for many years. He served a number of years. He served a number of years as deacon in the Paris Christian church and two years ago he was made an elder of the church. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. and the Paris Rotary Club.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Cora Wells Shively of Paris, and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Wallace Shively of Detroit, Mich.
Active pallbearers will be Kelly Wills, Wolford Ewalt, Walker McCann, Clay Sutherland, J. S. Lathram and Edward Faries. Honorary pallbearers will be elders of the Christian church.

The following was found in The Lexington Herald, Lexington, Kentucky, Thursday, June 23, 1966, Page 10, Column 6:
Mrs. Cora Bell Wells Shively
PARIS -- Mrs. Cora Bell Wells Shively, 95, formerly of Paris, died at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Heritage House, Lexington, after a long illness. She was a native of Nathan County, the widow of Samuel W. Shively, and a member of the First Christian Church here and of the Paris chapter No. 167 of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors are several nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted at  2 p.m. Friday at the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home by the Rev. Leonard W. Boynton. Burial will be in the Paris Cemetery. Bearers will be Russell, Conrad, William and Miller Wells, Earl and Harold Jordan. The body is at the funeral home where friends may call after 4 p.m. today.

Wallace R. Shively passed away on 21-Mar-1938 from lobar pneumonia in Detroit, Wayne County, MI. 

Harold Soden Shively passed away on 22-Mar-1928 from acute intestinal obstruction in Detroit, Wayne County, MI. The following newspaper obituary was found in the Lexington Herald-Leader, Lexington, Kentucky, Page 14, Column 14:
PARIS, Ky., March 23 -- Telegraphic advice late Thursday afternoon announced the death of Harold Shively, at the Ford hospital, Detroit, Mich. He had been sick but a short while and an emergency operation was performed in the hope of saving his life. His wife and mother were at this bedside. Harold Shively was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Shively, and located in Detroit about two years ago. The body arrived here today at 10 o'clock, accompanied by Mrs. Harold Shively, Mrs. S. W. Shively and Dr. Wallace Shively, a brother, of Detroit, and taken to his parents' residence. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.

Additional information was found in the following article from The Lexington Herald, Lexington, Kentucky, Saturday, March 24, 1928, Page 8, Column 4:

PARIS, Ky., March 23. -- The body of Harold S. Shively, 27, who died at Detroit, Mich., yesterday, arrived in Paris, accompanied by the widow, Mrs. Georgia Connor Shively, mother, Mrs. Samuel W. Shively, and Dr. and Mrs. Wallace Shively, of Detroit. The body was taken to the family home on South Main street.
Harold S. Shively was a son of Samuel W. and Cora Wells Shively, and born at Versailles. For several years he was associated with his father in business in this city, retiring from the firm three years ago to engage in the grocery and meat business at Detroit, Mich. Besides the widow and parents, one brother, Dr. Wallace Shively, of Detroit, survives.
The funeral services will be conducted at the Shively home on Main street, Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, by the Rev. W. W. Ellis, pastor of the Paris Christian church and burial will follow in the family lot at the Paris cemetery.
The following will act as casket-bearers: Robert Carroll, Robert Graham, Roger Connor, Dr. Wallace Shively, Rodwick Connor, Russell Wells, Miller Wells and James Douglas.
