Bert Shively was married first to Ruth Steensma on 14-Apr-1915 in Canyon County, ID.  He was married second to Elizabeth Morin in 1944 in Kitsap County, WA.  The following newspaper article was located in The Caldwell Tribune, Caldwell, Idaho, Friday, April 23, 1915, Page 10, Columns 4-5:  Wednesday afternoon, April 14th at 3:30 o'clock at the home of Priest Marks in Nampa occurred the wedding of Miss Ruth Steensma and Mr. Bertram Shiveley.  The bride wore a beautiful dress of white embroidered voile.  Miss Eleanor Prosser was the bridesmaid and was also attired in white voile. Mr. Botkin of Nampa was best man. Those present at the ceremony were Mr. and Mrs. V Perry, Mrs. Hoofnagel, Laura Perry and Clifford Barnhart.  The bride and groom will make their home in Riverside. The community extends hearty congratulations and best wishes.

Wednesday evening a crowd of young folks met at the Shiveley home in Riverside and serenaded them with tin-pan music.  After Mr. and Mrs. Shiveley had stood as much of the music as they could they invited the crowd in and gave them the treats. The crowd soon left after wishing the bride and groom much happiness.

The marriage certificate of George Shivley and Lillian Corwine is given the consent from the father of the groom.  The certificate records "H C Shivley the father of George Shivley has given consent to this marriage".  

The newspaper obituary for George Shively does not mention his son, Bert Shively, in the article.  Located in the Joplin News Herald, Joplin, Missouri, Monday, June 12, 1944, Page 2, Column 2:

George Shively, 66, Lifelong Resident Of District, Dies

George Shively, 66 years old, of Oakland, a lifelong resident of the district, died at 10:30 o'clock Sunday morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Robert Leggett, 2127 Kentucky avenue.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Oakland Christian church with the Rev. John Morgan officiating.

The body will lie in state at the church from 1 o'clock until the funeral hour.  Burial will be in Forest Park cemetery under the direction of the Webb City Undertaking Company. Pallbearers will be P. J. Seersick, Gus Nelson, Henry Hasseltine, Ambrose Cook, Bert Craig and Leon Woosley.

Surviving besides the daughter are a son, Chester H. Shively of Talogo, Okla,; a stepson, George Beaty of Kansas City, and seven grandchildren.

HENRY C. SHIVELY, farmer, was born in Columbia county, Pa., Sept 22, 1847, and was there raised. His father, George, is a farmer, and is still living in Pennsylvania. The subject of this sketch was married in April, 1868, to Emma Greninger, who was born and raised in Clinton county, Pa. She died in September, 1872. Mr. Shively was married again Jan. 1, 1874, to Minerva J. Spencer, who was born in Jasper county March 31, 1844. Their children are Rachel C., George A., Effie M., and one not living. Mr. Shively is a member of the Evangelical Church and Mrs. S. of the Christian. Mr. Shively came to Jasper county in 1868. He lived for a time in Oregon, and in California until within the last six years. He owns a good farm of eighty acres and raises good crops; also has a small young orchard; he has devoted some time to mining at Joplin. Mrs. Shively, being born and raise in the county, has seen some of its hardships and the stirring scenes of the war. She has carried meals to the men concealed in the brush during the war, and her father's house was burned down, and they were compelled to leave at night. This farm in is section 15, township 27, range 31, Jackson township.

The following article was located in The Wheeling Register, Wheeling, West Virginia, Tuesday, December 1, 1896, Page 5, Column 3:

Died From Lockjaw

Yesterday afternoon, Earl, the sixteen-year-old son of Henry Shively, pressman at the Staats Zeitung, who lives at No. 87 Zane street, died of lockjaw.  About two weeks ago he accidentally ran a rusty nail in his foot.  The matter was not given the proper medical attention at the time and in a short time afterward the wound healed up sufficiently to permit the boy to go out and walk around.  There was no thought that the matter would terminate seriously, but several days ago he was taken very ill and physician sent for.  He grew worse, however, until a few days ago his jaws became perfectly locked and rigid.  Not a particle of food could be passed through his mouth and death came as a relief to his sufferings.

SHIVELY – On Monday, November 30, 1896, at 4:20 p.m., Earl, oldest son of Henry C and Belle S. Shively, aged 15 years and 11 months.  Funeral services at parents residence, No. 77 Zane street, this (Wednesday) afternoon at 2 o’clock. Friends of the family respectfully invited to attend.  Interment at Penninsula cemetery.

The family of Henry and Belle Shively are recorded on the 1900 Ohio County, Wheeling, West Virginia census record.  Listed in the household are: Henry born February 1859, wife Belle born March 1855, son William born February 1884, son George born February 1894, and daughter Myrtle born April 1887.  Henry and Belle were also listed on the 1910 and 1920 Ohio County, West Virginia census records.

Ohio death certificates were located for both Henry Shively and Catherine Sarabelle Salade Shively.  Henry C Shively was born 16-February-1860 in Cambridge, Guernsey County, Ohio and died on 11-May-1941 in Bellaire, Belmont County, Ohio and buried in the Penninsula cemetery. Henry’s occupation is listed as a printer. His parents are listed as Daniel Shively born in Cambridge, Ohio and Hannah Moore born in Cambridge, Ohio.

Catherine Sarabelle Salade Shively was born 10-March-1854 in Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia and died on 4-March-1941 in Bellaire, Belmont County, Ohio and buried in the Pennisula cemetery.  Her parents are listed as John Salade born in Germany and Christina Hendrix born in Germany.

West Virginia death records were located for both Daniel Shively and Hannah Jane Moore Shively.  Daniel Shively was born on 27-May-1815 and died on 29-November-1898, Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia and buried in the Penninsula cemetery .  His parents are listed as John born in PA and Mary born in PA.   Hannah Jane Moore Shively was born on 23-May-1829 in Greene County, Pennsylvania and died 25-October-1909 in Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia and buried in the Penninsula cemetery.  Her parents are listed as Samuel Moore born in “Old Virginia” and Elizabeth Sharff born in “Old Virginia”. 

Daniel Shively was the son of John Shively born 1788 died 11-September-1868 in Guernsey County, Ohio and Mary Sphar born about 1795 and died 6-May-1882 in Claysville, Guernsey County, Ohio.
