Saloma Shively was born on 13-Dec-1846 in Canton, Stark County, OH and died on 4-Mar-1931 in Ridgeley Township, Dodge County, NE. She was the daughter of Isaac P. Shively (1822-1884) and Sarah Clapper (1823-1885). Isaac P. Shively was the son of John Shively (1794-1866) and Margaret Myers (1801-1865). John Shively was the son of Jacob Isaac Shively, Jr (1767-1814) and Barbara Thomas (1771-1851). Saloma Shively married Peter Lillie (Lilly) who was born ca. 1843 and died in Marshall, Clark County, IL on 19-Nov-1917. He was the son of Conrad and Susan Lilllie.
Listed on the 1850 My Division, Marshall County, IN census is the family of Isaac Shively age 27, wife Sarah age 26, daughter Solamy age 5 and son Jonas age 3. On the 1860 Bourbon Township, Marshall County, IN census are Isaac P. Shively age 37, wife Sarah age 36, daughter Saloma age 14, son John’s age 12, son David age 10, daughter Eliza age 8, daughter Amanda age 6, and daughter Celestia age 2. Located on the 1880 Platte Precinct, Dodge County, NE census is the household of Peter C. Lilly age 38, wife Siloma age 35, employee James Teal age 20, employee Wm. H. Boyer age 45, and boarder Louis Braucht age 23. The next household is I. P. Shivley age 57, wife Sarah age 56, daughter Irena age 18 and son Jerry age 13. Mrs. S. Lilly Passes Following Stroke
Mrs. Saloma Lilly, a pioneer of Dodge county and resident of Scribner for the past eleven years, passed away on Saturday at the home of her sister, Mrs. Irena Shomshor in this city. Death was due to complications attendant to old age. On the Sunday prior to her passing, she was at the Shomshor bakery helping with the work as was her custom. On Monday she suffered a slight stoke of paralysis from which here frail body failed to rally.
Saloma Shively was born on December 13, 1846, at Canton, Ohio, and died in Scribner on March 14, 1931, at the age of 84 years, 3 months and 1 day. In 1868 she was married to Peter C. Lilly in Muscatine county, Iowa. They moved from there in 1872 to Dodge county and settled on a farm near Fremont. From there they moved to Marshall, Ill., in 1895 and here she lived until the death of her husband in 1916. She then returned to Fremont and took up residence with her sister, Mrs. Shomshor, who moved to Scribner in 1919, and with whom the deceased had spent the remaining days of her life. There were no children born to Mr. and Mrs. Lilly.
During her residence in Scribner Mrs. Lilly had made many friends. She was kindly and cheerful, and always ready to lend a hand to help or to give what she could to help or to give what she could to help make life a little more pleasant for someone else. Being of an industrious nature, she insisted on helping with the work at the Shomshor bakery despite her advanced years. Here she familiarly and lovingly referred to as “Aunt Sally”. She was a faithful member of the Congregational church.
The only near relatives surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Irena Shomshor, of Scribner, and Mrs. Eliza Cuisine of Wichita, Kans., two nephews, Edwin Shomshor of this city and Frank Shomshor of Grand Island, and one niece, Mrs. Charles Meier of Hooper.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Congregational church, Rev. G. R. Birch officiating. Interment was made in Ridge cemetery at Fremont.
