This site was created by Larry Shively who is researching the history of the Shively families. The goal is to have a site where all Shively researchers can share and ask questions in regards to their Shively lines. The largest majority of the Shively family records are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. There are early records of Shively's also in Virginia and Kentucky. There are not many established Shively lineages back to Europe. There are documented lineages to Switzerland and Germany. Charles Benjamin Shively And Elizabeth Marie McDonald Who Were Wed New Year's Day In 1936

Charles Benjamin Shively was born on 25-Aug-1908 in PA and died 15-Mar-1958 in McKean County, PA.  He was the son of William Lincoln Shively (born 13-Aug-1864 died 1-Jan-1940) and Flora Alice Mulkin (born 3-Dec-1874 died 20-Nov-1949). For more information on William and Flora Shively read the Shively blog article written on 23-Mar-2012.  Charles Benjamin Shively was married to Elizabeth Marie McDonald on New Year's Day, January 1, 1936 in Bradford, McKean County, PA. Elizabeth Marie McDonald was born on 29-Aug-1903 and died 8-Feb-1970.

Elizabeth McDonald Weds William Shively Here In New Year's Day Ceremony
Miss Elizabeth McDonald, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hilsinger of 71 West Washington street, and Charles B. Shively, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Shively of Eldred, were united in marriage at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon by Alderman Fred B. Nicholas.
The attendants were Miss Twila Higate and R. C. Fetherlyn. Out-of-town guests included Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Fetherlyn, jr., of Tulsa, Okla., Miss Clara Bedell of Buffalo and Bernard Korsky of Wellsville.
After the ceremony dinner was served for 16 guests at the Bartender's Club of McKean County.
The couple left on a short wedding trip to New York city last night. When they return, they will reside at 71 West Washington street here.
Mrs. Shively, who is well-known locally, is a graduate of St. Elizabeth's academy, Allegany, N. Y. Mr. Shively is an oil well driller in the Bradford field and also has many friends.

The following was extracted from the Bradford Era, Monday, March 17, 1958, Page 3, Column 5:
Charles B. Shively, Employe of Zippo, Dies After Illness
Charles B. Shively, 17 State St., died in Bradford Hospital Saturday at 4:30 a.m. after a several weeks illness. He was 49.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. William Shively, he was born Aug. 25, 1908, at Rew. He was married to the former Elizabeth M. McDonald at Bradford Jan 1, 1935.
Mr. Shively, an interior decorator, had been employed by local and Buffalo contractors, and in the last several years he had been in charge of the paint department for Zippo Manufacturing Co. here.
He attended the First Methodist Church and was a member of Local 101, Interior Decorators and Painters Union. Mr. Shively, a World War II veteran, served with the 136th Battalion of the Navy's Seabees.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one sister, Miss Janet Shively, Bradford Hospital anethestist; and five brothers, Kenneth, San Francisco; Gordon L., Detroit; Theodore, Salamanca; Duane, Eldred; and George, Portville, N.Y.
Funeral services will be held at the Hollenbeck Funeral Chapel Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. under the auspices of local American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts. The Rev. Cletus Mowry, pastor of First Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.

The following was found in the Bradford Era, Tuesday, February 10, 1970, Page 2, Column 3:
Mrs. Elizabeth Shively
Mrs. Elizabeth Marie Shively, 66, of 1 Centre Place, Roxbury, Mass., a former Bradford resident, died at 11:10 p.m. Sunday in the Longwood Hospital, Roxbury.
She was born at Bradford on Aug. 29, 1903, a daughter of the late James and Elsie Fitpatrick McDonald. She lived Bradford until 1959 when she moved to Roxbury. She had been employed as a practical nurse at Bradford Hospital.
Her husband, Charles B. Shively, preceded her in death on March 15, 1958.
She was a member of St. Bernard Church.
Surviving are one niece, Mrs. Nicolina Dicello of Bradford and one grandniece, Mrs. Ann L. White, also of Bradford.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday at the Hollenbeck Funeral Chapel where a prayer service will be held at 8:30 a.m. Friday. Requiem High Mass will be celebrated in St. Bernard Church at 9 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Abraham Shively And Wife Sarah Marshall Who Lived In McKean County, Pennsylvania

Abraham Shively was born 24-Nov-1839 in Ohio and died 18-Nov-1912 in Bradford, McKean County, PA.  Abraham was the son of George Shively and Maria Grove. Abraham married Sarah Marshall who was born 10-Apr-1859 in Oneida, Madison County, NY and died 23-Jan-1941 in Bradford, McKean County, PA.  Sarah was the daughter of Hiram Marshall and Sophia Hess.  The grandfather of Abraham Shively was Frederick Shively born 14-Mar-1772 in Berks County, PA and died 18-Sep-1828 in Mahoning County, OH and Elizabeth Flick (1773-1836). Frederick Shively was the son of Peter Scheibley (Sheibley) born 10-Apr-1742 and died 7-Sep-1823 in Perry County, PA and 1st wife Anna Elizabeth Heinsin (Heins).

Abraham Shively and Sarah Marshall were the parents of at least three children: 1) child who died in 1884 2) Mabel (Mabelle) C. born Mar-1885 died 27-Mar-1951 in Bradford, McKean County, PA and married John Pryde and 3) George Shively born Jun-1887 died 14-Sep-1964 in McKean County, PA and married Hazel Phadenhauer.

Late Abraham Shively Had Lived In Bradford 33 Years -- The Funeral
Funeral services over the remains of the late Abraham Shively will be held at the house, corner Congress and Pike streets, Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. W. M. Courson, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating. Interment at Oak Hill.
Mr. Shively, whose death at the Bradford hospital early Monday morning, was announced in The Era, was a native of Austintown, O.  He was born November 24, 1838.
In the time of the early oil excitement at Petrolia, he located there and for a time was engaged in the grocery business. In 1879 he came to Bradford where he had since been a well known oil well contractor.
Besides his widow, he leaves one daughter, Miss Mabel Shively and one son, George Shively, all of Bradford: two brothers, John Shively, of Youngstown, O., and George Shively, of Warren, O., and two sisters, Mrs. Caroline Philips of Youngstown, O. and Mrs. Calvin Burnett, of Akron, Ohio.

Resident Here 60 Years Dies At Her Home In Pike Street
Mrs. Sarah Shively, 81, well-known resident of this city for the past 60 years, died at her home, 30 Pike street, yesterday afternoon at 2:18 o'clock. Mrs. Shively had been ill of complications for the past three months.
Born in Oneida, N.Y., April 10, 1859, she came to Bradford from Buffalo about 60 years ago. She was the widow of A. Shively, who died November 18, 1912.
Highly-respected, she had many friends. She was a member of the First Methodist church of this city.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Mabelle Pryde, and a son, George Shively, both of this city.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the home. The Rev. Ernest E. Davis, pastor of the First Methodist church, will officiate. Burial will be in the family lot in Oak Hill cemetery.
The McAllister funeral home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Craven Shively Who Lived In Edgar County, Illinois

Craven Shively was born on 3-Feb-1823 in Ohio and died 16-Sep-1909 in Wabash Township, Clark County, IL.  He is buried in the Laufman Cemetery in Edgar County, IL. Craven was the son of William Shively (from Virginia to Ohio to Illinois) and Mary Brown. William Shively was born in Loudoun County, VA on 22-Mar-1789 and died 22-Oct-1857 in Edgar County, IL. William was the son of Jacob Shively and Ann Hopkins. Jacob Shively was born 29-May-1766 and died 16-May-1837 in Muskingum County, OH. Ann Hopkins was born ca. 1767 and died 4-Feb-1851 in Muskingum County, OH. (For others related to this family see the Shively blog article written on August 6, 2016).

Listed on the 1850 District Nineteen, Edgar County, IL census is the household of William Shively age 60, wife Mary age 57, Sarah age 19, William H. age 15 and Craven age 26 with occupation of a miner.  Listed on the 1860 Plumas Township, Plumas County, CA census is Craven Shively age 37 with occupation as a gold miner and Henry Kaufman age 23. On the 1867 California Voter Registration list Craven Shively is age 43, born in Ohio, a miner living in Genesee Valley, Plumas County.  On the 1875 California Voter Registration list Craven Shively is listed as age 48,  born in Ohio, living in Truckee, Nevada County, CA. Located on the 1900 Edgar County, IL census is Craven Shively, born Feb-1823, age 77 and single.

Craven Shively died at the home of his niece, Mrs. Nelson Campbell, southwest of Oliver, Friday, age 87 years. He is survived by a brother and sister. He was never married, and for many years had lived with his relatives.

A very large crowd assembled at the Christian church in Oliver Saturday to pay the last tribute of respect to Mr. Craven Shively. The sermon was delivered by Rev. Lamb. Interment in Keifer cemetery.

The following information regarding Armstead Shively who was a brother to Craven Shively was found in The Clark County Herald, Marshall, IL, Thursday, September 22, 1898, Page 5, Column 4:
SHIVELY
Armstead Shively was born in Muskingum county, Ohio, Jan 11, 1821, and died Sept. 7th, 1898, aged 77 years, 7 months and 26 days.
He was married to Mary E. V. Laufman Apr. 2nd, 1847. Of this union were born eleven children, six of whom survive him. He had 26 grand children and 2 great grand-children. Twenty-two grand children are still living.
