Amanda Shively was born in Jan-1855 in Indiana and died on 27-Aug-1916 in Fremont, Dodge County, NE. Amanda was the daughter of Isaac P. Shively (1822-1884) and Sarah Clapper (1823-1885). Isaac P. Shively was the son of John Shively (1794-1866) and Margaret Myers (1801-1865). John Shively was the son of Jacob Isaac Shively, Jr (1767-1814) and Barbara Thomas (1771-1851).
Amanda Shively married 1st William C. Greves (Grieves) in Dodge County, NE on 11-Sep-1872. William was born ca. 1845 in Michigan and died ca. 1874. He was the son of A. A. Greves and Betsy Coffinger. Amanda married 2nd to George A. Stanley in Dodge County, NE on 7-Apr-1878. This marriage ended in divorce. George was the son of George Stanley and Margaret A. Johnson.
Listed on the 1850 My Division, Marshall County, IN census is the family of Isaac Shively age 27, wife Sarah age 26, daughter Solamy age 5 and son Jonas age 3. On the 1860 Bourbon Township, Marshall County, IN census are Isaac P. Shively age 37, wife Sarah age 36, daughter Saloma age 14, son John’s age 12, son David age 10, daughter Eliza age 8, daughter Amanda age 6, and daughter Celestia age 2. Located on the 1870 Pike Township, Muscatin County, IA census is the family of Isaac P. Shively age 48, wife Sarah age 47, son David age 19, daughter Eliza age 17, daughter Amanda age 15, daughter Irena age 8 and son J. age 3. On the 1880 Fremont, Dodge County, NE census is the household of George Stanley age 24, wife Amanda age 25 and daughter Gracie age 1. On the 1900 Fremont City, Dodge County, NE census are Amanda Grieves born Jan-1855 age 45 and daughter Grace born Mar-1879 age 21.
The newspaper account of the marriage of Amanda Shively Grieves to George Stanley was found in the Fremont Daily Herald, Fremont, Nebraska, Wednesday, April 17, 1878, Page 4, Column 3:
Mr. Geo. W. Stanley, of Timberville, was married last Sunday week to Mrs. Amanda Grieves, of this place. It is rather late in the day to make mention of the happy affair, but better late than never is our motto. The wedding passed off so quietly that it escaped the attention of our news gatherer at the time. Mr. Stanley is teaching the Timberville school and is well liked by the people of that locality who have known him for nearly two years, and his bride is a worthy young woman. The HERALD extends its congratulations to the young couple and hopes their cup of happiness will be filled to the brim.
The following was copied from the Fremont Tri-Weekly Herald, Fremont, Nebraska, Thursday, May 17, 1883, Page 3, Column 2:
Application has been made before the District Court, on the prayer of Amanda Stanley vs. George A. Stanley, praying “that the marriage between you and her may be annulled and declared void on the ground that you had another wife living at the time of your marriage to pl’ff, that she may restored to the name of Amanda Greaves, and that the child, the issue of her marriage with your, may be declared the legitimate child of pl’tff under and by the name of Grace Greaves, and that you may be enjoined from molesting or interfering with pl’tff or said child”.

Well Known Fremont Woman Answers Final Summons

Mrs. Amanda Greves, a Fremont resident continuously since girlhood, died at the hospital his morning at the age of 61. Mrs. Greves came to Fremont about three weeks ago from Lincoln to which place she had gone for treatment from Sioux Falls, S.D., the home of her daughter, Mrs. Willis Truax.
Mrs. Greves was born in Indiana in 1855, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac P. Shively. With her parents she came to Fremont in 1870 and had since made her home here with the exception of the last few years. Her marriage to William C. Greves took place at Fremont about two years after coming to Nebraska. They lives on a farm in Saunders county south of Fremont until the death of Mr. Greves about two years following their marriage. Mrs. Greves returned to Fremont to make her home with her parents. With her daughter who was Miss Grace Greves, a popular teacher in the Fremont schools, Mrs. Greves left Fremont for Kearney where Miss Greves was engaged in teaching until her marriage to Mr. Truax. She then removed with her daughter and son-in-law to Sioux Falls to make her home.
When she realized that her condition was critical Mrs. Greves expressed the desire to be brought to Fremont, her old home, to spend her declining days. Besides her daughter, three sisters, Mrs. Peter Lilly, Marshall, Ind., Mrs. Eliza Sissne, Salina, Kas., and Mrs. Irena Shomshor, Fremont, and two brothers, David and Jerry of Los Angeles, are the surviving relatives.
Funeral arrangements have not been made pending work from Mrs. Traux.
