Mrs. Esta Mae Shively, 54, of Williamsport, died last Wednesday afternoon in the Williamsport Hospital following an illness of four weeks. She leaves her husband, Edward C. Shively, a daughter, Mrs. Beatrice Aumiller, of Selinsgrove, and her father, J. B. Rishel, of Coburn.

A former resident of town, Mrs. Shively was a member of the Evangelical and Reformed Church here. She had numerous friends in this community who mourn her passing.

Edward C. Shively, 68, Buried At Aaronsburg

Edward Clarence Shively, 68, died unexpectedly Sunday while sweeping snow from the pavement at his home in West Snyder street. His death was caused by a heart attack.

Mr. Shively was born May 13, 1888, in R.R. Millmont, the son of William and Annie Gramley Shively. He attended the Millmont public schools. A baker by trade, he operated bakery shops in Mifflinburg, Newport, Lancaster, Williamsport and Selinsgrove. In 1937 he retired from that business and since then has been sales representative for Stanley Home Products Company.

He was a member of the St. Paul's Reformed Church and the Men's Goodfellowship Bible Class of that church, Lafayette Chapter Free and Accepted Mason, Selinsgrove, the Williamsport Consistory, and a member of the Board Directors of the Lewisburg AAA Club.

Surviving are his widow, the former Maud Womer; a daughter, Mrs. Paul H. Aumiller; a son, Harold E. Bingaman, at home; two granddaughters; a brother, Harry L. Shively, of Harrisburg; and a sister, Mrs. R. F. Boop, of Glenn Iron.

Funeral services were held Wednesday from the Montgomery Funeral Home in North High street and interment was in the Reformed Church Cemetery in Aaronsburg. His pastor, the Rev. O. W. Nace, D.D., officiated. The Lafayette Chapter F&AM conducted Memorial rites at the funeral home Tuesday evening.

Dies Suddenly Of Heart Disease

LEWISBURG, Jan. 10 -- J. W. Shively, 77, a highly respected citizen living on the Natrional rd., just west of here, died yesterday after a few hours' illness of heart disease.

He had spent all of his life in this community, being a member of an old pioneer family.

He is survived by his widow, Emma M., and three daughters, Mrs. C. E. Myers of Arcanum, Mrs. E. W. Ganster of Dayton, Mrs. R. B. Lock of Lewisburg, and six grandchildren, besides many other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 12 at 2 p.m., at the U. B. church in Lewisburg. Burial in Roselawn cemetery.

Mrs. Emma Shively Of Lewisburg, Dies

LEWISBURG, April 11 -- Spl) -- Mrs. Emma Shively, 75, widow of J. W. Shively, died at 5:30 a.m. today in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clifford Myers, of Arcanum. She had been a lifelong resident of Lewisburg.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Myers, Mrs. K. W. Ganster, of Dayton, and Mrs. Rhea Lock, of near Lewisburg. The body will be taken to the home of Mrs. Lock Friday afternoon.

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Trinity Lutheran church. Burial will follow in Roselawn cemetery, Lewisburg.

William Shively (Sheivley) And Christian Shively (Shivley) Who Lived In Allegheny County, Pennsylvania

The following newspaper obituary was extracted from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Pittsburgh, PA, Sunday, August 7, 1910, Page 6, Columns 6-7:

William M. Shively

William M. Shively, a brave solider of the civil war and well known in Bellevue, where he lived many years, died yesterday at the Soldier's Home in Erie.  He had been taken to Erie on the advice of physicians only three weeks ago.  For years before his death Mr. Shively, who was 78 when he died, lived with his brother, Capt. C. F. Shively, in Orchard avenue, Bellevue.  He was born in Pittsburgh, enjoyed a good schooling, and when the war broke out enlisted in the One Hundred and Eighty-seventh Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers.  He was wounded in the explosion of a mine in the war, but recovered and remained in the army, serving three years.  After the war young Shively went to work in the Byers mill, becoming boss roller.  He worked there 15 years.  He was not married, and Capt. Shively is the only surviving member of the immediate family.  Comrade Shively will be buried at the Soliders' Home.  Cant. Shively, who is 70 years old, will attend the funeral.

The PA death certificate was found for William Sheivley.  He was born on 3-Mar-1837, Pittsburgh, PA and died 5-Aug-1910 Erie County, PA.  He was buried on 7-Aug-1910 in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery at the Solider's Home in Erie, PA (Section E, Row 12, Grave 11).

William Sheivley has a Civil War listing in the pension index.  His widow is listed as Sarah Sheivley.

C. F. Shivley is located living on Orchard Avenue on the 1900 Allegheny County, PA, Ross Township census.  In the household is C. F. Shively born Dec 1840, age 59, wife Katie born Sep 1843 age 56, daughter Anna M born Nov 1867 age 32, son-in-law Bert Coyle born May 1875 age 25, daughter Eva born Sep 1876 age 23, granddaughter Anna born Oct 1896 age 3.    Listed living on Orchard Avenue on the 1910 Allegheny County, PA, Ross Township census is Christopher Shivley age 70, wife Philopene age 68, daughter Anna age 40, daughter Evaline Coyle age 31, and granddaughter Anna age 13.

The PA death certificate was found for Christian Shively.  He was born 3-Dec-1839 in Pittsburgh, PA and died 2-Aug-1930 at the Pennsylvania Soldiers and Sailors Home Hospital in Erie, PA.  He was buried on 6-Aug-1930 in Bellevue, PA.

John William Shively, Sarah E. Buck And Eliza E. Crouch Who Lived In Mercer County, Ohio

John William Shively was born on 24-May-1861 in Mercer County, OH and died on 12-Dec-1939 in Mercer County, OH.  He was the son of William M Shively and Sarah E. Carr.  John was married first on 22-Apr-1883 in Mercer County to Sarah Edith Buck.  Sarah was born on 29-Aug-1862 and died 18-Sep-1886.  John married second in Mercer County on 1-Jan-1890 to Eliza E Crouch.  Eliza was born on 18-Mar-1867 and died on 7-Feb-1922.  

Information on John W. Shively was extracted from History Of Mercer County, Ohio And Representative Citizens, Edited And Compiled By Hon. S. S. Scranton, Celing, Ohio, Published By Biographical Publishing Company, Chicago, IL, 1907, Pages 297 and 298:

John W. Shively, a leading citizen of Hopewell township, formerly township treasurer and the owner of a general store at Stedcke, was born in Jefferson township, Mercer County, Ohio, May 24, 1861.  He is a son of William M. and Sarah E. (Carr) Shively.

Both parents of Mr. Shively were born in Ohio.  The father was a solider in the service of his country in the Civil War, and lost his life in that great struggle.  It thus came about that our subject was thrown entirely upon his own resources when but 10 years of age.  He left Jefferson township and for a number of years worked at farming throughout Mercer County, and later operated a farm for himself.  In 1887 he embarked in the mercantile business at Stedcke, which he has conducted ever since, each year enlarging and adding to the stock of goods handled.  He owns a farm of 40 acres in Hopewell township and another, of 80 acres, in Butler township and also operates another store, at Mercer.  He is one of the county’s enterprising and successful business men.  He has also been very active in politics, has served as clerk of the Board of Elections of Hopewell township and for six years was township treasurer.  He has also served as Postmaster at Stedcke.  He is a stanch Republican.

Mr. Shively has been twice married.  His first wife, Sarah E. Buch(Buck), at death left two children, Melvin and oral, the latter of whom is the wife of John Sielschott, of Mercer.  He married second, Eliza Crouch, and they have five children, namely: Chloe, Florence, Walter, Nora and Ernest B.  Both he and his wife are members of the German Baptist Church.

Mr. Shively is a representative, self made man and his material success is but the result of close application to business, honest dealing with his fellow citizens and an integrity of character, which has brought him the confidence and esteem of those with whom he has come in contact.

Children of John Shively and Sarah Buck included:  son Melvin J. born 25-Jan-1884 died 3-Apr-1948 buried Swamp College Cemetery.  Melvin J. married Mary "Mollie" J Snyder  on 27-Sep-1903 in Mercer County;   daughter Oral Edith born 11-Oct-1885 died 15-Jun-1943 buried Buck Cemetery.  She married John Henry Sielschott (Sealscott) on 22-Jan-1905 in Mercer County.   Children of John Shively and Eliza Crouch included:  Chloe M born 18-Oct-1890 died 23-Mar-1982 buried Swamp College Cemetery.  She married John Adolph Hoenie on 29-Jan-1908 in Mercer County; Florence D born 2-Apr-1893 died 2-Apr-1944 buried Swamp College Cemetery.  She married Robert Hill; Walter H born 6-Feb-1895 died 6-Sep-1979 buried Swamp College Cemetery.  He married Bertha S. Viereck on 3-Mar-1920 in Mercer County;  LeNora (Nora) S. Shively born 11-Mar-1897 died 7-Aug-1980 buried North Grove Cemetery.  She married Ernest Dee Young; and Ernest Basil born 5-Mar-1899 died 20-Jul-1980 buried Friends Chapel Cemetery.  He married Fannie Florence Fisher on 16-Feb-1922 in Mercer County.
