This site was created by Larry Shively who is researching the history of the Shively families. The goal is to have a site where all Shively researchers can share and ask questions in regards to their Shively lines. The largest majority of the Shively family records are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. There are early records of Shively's also in Virginia and Kentucky. There are not many established Shively lineages back to Europe. There are documented lineages to Switzerland and Germany. Through the sharing of information from all of our research it is desired that all can learn about our Shively families.

Harold Warren Shively And Anna Beulah Smith From Union County And Snyder County, Pennsylvania

Harold And Anna Beulah Shively
Harold Warren Shively was born on 19-April-1899.  He died in 1929 after falling from a ladder.  Harold was married to Anna Beulah Smith who was born about 1899 and died prior to 1930.  They were the parents of two daughters, Sylvia M. Shively and Alberta F. Shively. The daughters were raised by their uncle and aunt, Norman and Verna E. Smith Jarrett, after the death of Harold and Anna. Sylvia was married to Mr. Domulevicz and Alberta was married to George Parkhurst.
Thanks go to the great-grandson of Warren and Beulah, Todd Mondok, for the photo included at the left and the following obituary:
Snyder County Man Is Killed At Lebanon
Harold W. Shively, 29, Bricklayer, Dies In Plunge From Ladder Late Yesterday.--Family Grief-Stricken.
Word was received late yesterday that, Harold W. Shively, a native of Snyder County and until a few years ago a resident of that section, was killed in a fall at Lebanon, where he has been employed from some time past.
Mrs. C. N. Jarrett of Rolling Green received the word, a telegram bearing meager details of the tragedy.
The ill-fated young man was employed by a Lebanon contractor as a brick-layer. While working high above the ground and standing on a ladder, he lost his foothold and plunged to the earth.  Fellow workmen rushed to his assistance and hurried him to the city hospital at that place where he died within a few hours, probably from a fractured skull sustained in striking the ground with terrible force.
Mr. Shively was aged 29 years and is survived by his wife and two children.  One sister, Mrs. Mary Weirick of Northumberland and one brother, Arthur of Milton, and several nephews also survive.
No definite particulars as to the young man's death had been received by the Jarrett family up until a late hour this afternoon.  The death of the young man comes as a severe shock to his family and a host of friends who join in mourning his demise.
Undertaker F. K. Sutton of Selinsgrove left this morning for Lebanon to get the remains.  Funeral services will be held from the Jarrett home at Rolling Green with Rev. J. F. Drumm officiating.  Interment will be made in the West Side cemetery.

Harold Warren Shively was the son of Elias E. Shively who was born Aug 1842 and second wife Sara A. Bickel who was born May 1858.   Marilyn Georgeson has a well documented site of the "Descendants of Durs Schaeublin".  From her site it is known that Elias Shively was the son of Daniel Shively born 28-Jan-1905 in Northumberland Co., PA died 11-Oct-1871 and buried in Laurelton Lutheran Cemetery in Union Co., PA and wife, Elizabeth Keister.  Daniel was the son of John Shively born 5-Feb-1776 in West Buffalo Township, Northumberland Co., PA died 7-Dec-1862 in Hartley Township, Union Co., PA and buried in Lewis Cemetery, Union Co., PA and wife, Elisabeth Dersham.  John was the son of Christian Shively III born 2-Feb-1751 in Warwick Township, Lancaster Co., PA died 12-Dec-1842 Union Co., PA and wife, Sophia Catharina Von Groate Schmidt.  Christian Shively III was the son of Christen Schaeublin who was christened 25-Dec-1718 in Oberdorf, Basel, Switzerland died after 16-Nov-1773 in York Township, York Co., PA and wife, Esther Neff.  Christen Schaeublin was the son of Christian Schaeublin who was born 6-Nov-1683 Oberdorf, Basel, Switzerland died before 18-Apr-1752 and wife, Barbara Spittler.  Christian Schaeublin was the son of Durs Schaeublin who was born about 1650 in Oberdorf, Basel, Switzerland died after 19-Jan-1690 and wife, Margaret Straumann.

Washington, D.C.
Nov. 16th, 1865
Sir:
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt from our Office of application for Pension, and to return it herewith, with such information as is furnished by the files of this Office.
It appears from the Rolls on file in this Office, that William H. Shively was enrolled on the 19th day of Aug, 1861, at Findley Ohio in Co. “B”, 21 Regiment of Ohio Volunteers, to serve 3 years, or during the war, and mustered into service as a Private on the 19th day of Sept 1861, at Findley Ohio, in Co. “B”, 21st Regiment of Ohio Volunteers, to serve 3 years, or during the war.  On the muster out Roll of Co. “B” of that Regiment, dated July 25, 1865, he is reported a Sergeant and “Absent, prisoner, Captured at Battle of Chickamauga, Ga  Sept 20, 1863”. No evidence of disability on file.  Said soldier was mustered out May 9, 1865”

W. P. Wilson, M.D. submitted his medical evaluation for the pension as follows:
State Of Ohio, Hancock County
I William P Wilson on oath say that I reside in Hancock County Ohio, and have been a physician and surgeon for more than fifteen years, and late pension surgeon for said county;  that I was well acquainted with William H Shively, late Serg. Co B 21st Ohio Vols, before he entered said service and know that his health was at that time good,  that he was under my medical charge from the 10th of May 1865 most of the time until his death which occurred on the 12th day of April 1866.  That on the 10th day of May 1865 he was suffering from derangement of the liver and chronic diarrhea, and that the chronic diarrhea continued until, and was the cause of his death.  That for a part of the time after he left the regiment he was in such condition as to walk about with tolerable cause, but he was at no time fit for labor to any considerable extent.  That I believe said disease was contracted in rebel prison at Andersonville, Georgia, and am satisfied that medical evidence of the origin of the disease cannot be obtained.  That I have no interest in the claim of Mary W Shively (his mother) for a pension, and personally know the above facts except where stated as matter of belief.                                    W.P. Wilson, MD
