Archibald Gettis Shively was born 8-Sep-1869 in Pekin, Tazewell County, IL and died 26-Jun-1954 in Kokomo, Howard County, IN. He was the son of Alfred Shively (23-Sep-1844 to 11-May-1935) and Amanda Strickler (born 12-Jul-1852). Alfred Shively was the son of Israel Shively (1820-1866) and Synthia (also Cynthia) Ann Brooks (1824-1890. Israel Shively was the son of John Shively and Margaret. John Shively was the son of Conrad Shively and Mary Moyer.

Archibald (Archie) Gettis Shively was married 1st to Mary Frances Sutton on 26-Jun-1897 in Miami County, IN. She was born 27-Jan-1877 and died 16-Jan-1906. She was the daughter of Jacob Sutton (1838-1915) and Martha Long (1842-1916). In the household of Archie and Mary Shively were the children of Anna Glee, Claude, and Olive Jean. Mary F. Shively is buried in Rankin Cemetery, Bunker Hill, Miami County, IN. Following are the newspaper obituaries for Mary Sutton Shively. The first obituary was located in the Miami County Sentinel, January 20, 1906:
SHIVELY
Mrs. Mary F. Shively, wife of Archie G. Shively, of Waupecong, died at 6 o'clock Tuesday evening at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Sutton, near Loree, after
a lingering illness from consumption, aged twenty-eight years. The deceased was united in marriage with her
husband, who survives, June 26, 1897. She is also survived by three small
children. The funeral was held from the Brethren church at Loree at 10 o’clock
Thursday morning, the pastor, Rev. Menaugh, officiating. The burial was in the
Rankin cemetery.
OBITUARY
Mary
Frances, daughter of Jacob and Martha Sutton, was born in Miami county,
Indiana, on the 27th day of January, 1877, and died January 16,
1906, ages twenty-eight years, eleven months and nineteen days.
The
deceased was married to Archie G. Shively on June 26, 1897. She became a member
of the Brethren church at Loree at the age of fourteen years. Being full of life and of a bright and
cheerful temperament, she made friends wherever she went. She had been a patient sufferer for many
months, and the last few days of her life were spent in earnest prayer for
release from pain.
There
are left a husband, three children, father, mother, four brothers, two sisters
and a large circle of other relatives and friends to mourn their great loss.
In
1908 Archie Shively married 2nd to Estella (Stella) M. Zody. Stella
Zody was born 30-Apr-1883 in Miami County, IN and died in 1976. Listed on the 1910 Jackson Township, Miami
County, IN census is the household of Archie Shively age 40, wife Stella M. age
26, son Claud age 11, daughter O. age 6, son Carl age 6. Listed on the 1920 Center Township, Howard
County, IN is the household of Archie Shively age 50, wife Stella M. age 36,
son Claude age 21, son Carl age 16, daughter Vera Mae age 5, daughter Opal age
3 and son Melvin age 1. Listed on the 1930 Center Township, Howard County, IN
census is the family of Archie G. age 60, wife Estella M age 46, daughter Vera
M age 15, daughter Opal C. age 13, son
Melvin L age 11, and daughter Edith A age 8.

Mrs.
Estella Shively will celebrate her 88th birthday anniversary during
an open house from 3-8 p.m. Saturday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kenneth
Reel, 2419 N. Union St.
Mrs.
Shively was born April 30, 1883, in Miami County, and she has six children:
Mrs. Reel, Mrs. Parr Morrison, Mrs. Jean Hunt and Mrs. Melvin Shively, all of
Kokomo, Mrs. Jack McKinney of Rochester, and Carl Zody of Columbus, Ohio. She has 12 grandchildren, 35
great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
The

Archie
Shively, 84, died at 8 p.m. Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Kenneth
Reel, 2419 N. Union St., after a long illness.
He
was born Sept. 8, 1869, in Pekin, Ill., son of Alfred and Amanda (Strickler)
Shively. He moved to Wawpecong where he spent his boyhood and adulthood before
moving to Kokomo 40 years ago.
He
was a contract carpenter until ill health forced his retirement several years
ago.
In
1908 he was married to Estella Zody who survives. Other survivors include five
daughters, Mrs. Olive Jean Hunt, Mrs. Reel and Mrs. Diane Hooker, all of
Kokomo, Mrs. Jack McKinney of Tipton and Mrs. Glee Himer of Plymouth; two sons,
Claude and Melvin Shively, both of Kokomo, and one stepson, Carl Zody,
Columbus, O.
Surviving
also are one sister, Mrs. Ray Oldfather of Galveston; four brothers, Frank
Shively of Peru, Jesse of South Bend, Pearl of Wawpecong and Lawrence of
Hammond; 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Funeral
services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Ellers Chapel, with the Rev.
Rolland Steever officiating. Burial will be in Albright Cemetery. Friends may
call at the Ellers Chapel after 11 a.m. Monday.

Anna Glee Shively was married to Glen Billhimer. The news article listed her
married last name incorrectly).
One small change, Larry: Next to where you have the marriage certificate of Archibald and Mary (Sutton) Shively and you mention my name as a contributor, you should probably have "Thanks of appreciation are sent "his" way", instead of "her". No big deal -- just wanted to clarify.
