Archibald Gettis Shively was born 8-Sep-1869 in Pekin, Tazewell County, IL and died 26-Jun-1954 in Kokomo, Howard County, IN. He was the son of Alfred Shively (23-Sep-1844 to 11-May-1935) and Amanda Strickler (born 12-Jul-1852). Alfred Shively was the son of Israel Shively (1820-1866) and Synthia (also Cynthia) Ann Brooks (1824-1890.  Israel Shively was the son of John Shively and Margaret. John Shively was the son of Conrad Shively and Mary Moyer.

Archibald (Archie) Gettis Shively was married 1st to Mary Frances Sutton on 26-Jun-1897 in Miami County, IN. She was born 27-Jan-1877 and died 16-Jan-1906. She was the daughter of Jacob Sutton (1838-1915) and Martha Long (1842-1916). In the household of Archie and Mary Shively were the children of Anna Glee, Claude, and Olive Jean. Mary F. Shively is buried in Rankin Cemetery, Bunker Hill, Miami County, IN. Following are the newspaper obituaries for Mary Sutton Shively. The first obituary was located in the Miami County Sentinel, January 20, 1906:

SHIVELY

Mrs. Mary F. Shively, wife of Archie G. Shively, of Waupecong, died at 6 o'clock Tuesday evening at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Sutton, near Loree, after a lingering illness from consumption, aged twenty-eight years.  The deceased was united in marriage with her husband, who survives, June 26, 1897. She is also survived by three small children. The funeral was held from the Brethren church at Loree at 10 o’clock Thursday morning, the pastor, Rev. Menaugh, officiating. The burial was in the Rankin cemetery.

OBITUARY

Mary Frances, daughter of Jacob and Martha Sutton, was born in Miami county, Indiana, on the 27^th day of January, 1877, and died January 16, 1906, ages twenty-eight years, eleven months and nineteen days.

The deceased was married to Archie G. Shively on June 26, 1897. She became a member of the Brethren church at Loree at the age of fourteen years.  Being full of life and of a bright and cheerful temperament, she made friends wherever she went.  She had been a patient sufferer for many months, and the last few days of her life were spent in earnest prayer for release from pain.

There are left a husband, three children, father, mother, four brothers, two sisters and a large circle of other relatives and friends to mourn their great loss.

In 1908 Archie Shively married 2^nd to Estella (Stella) M. Zody. Stella Zody was born 30-Apr-1883 in Miami County, IN and died in 1976.  Listed on the 1910 Jackson Township, Miami County, IN census is the household of Archie Shively age 40, wife Stella M. age 26, son Claud age 11, daughter O. age 6, son Carl age 6.  Listed on the 1920 Center Township, Howard County, IN is the household of Archie Shively age 50, wife Stella M. age 36, son Claude age 21, son Carl age 16, daughter Vera Mae age 5, daughter Opal age 3 and son Melvin age 1. Listed on the 1930 Center Township, Howard County, IN census is the family of Archie G. age 60, wife Estella M age 46, daughter Vera M age 15, daughter Opal C. age 13,  son Melvin L age 11, and daughter Edith A age 8.

Mrs. Estella Shively will celebrate her 88^th birthday anniversary during an open house from 3-8 p.m. Saturday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Reel, 2419 N. Union St.

Mrs. Shively was born April 30, 1883, in Miami County, and she has six children: Mrs. Reel, Mrs. Parr Morrison, Mrs. Jean Hunt and Mrs. Melvin Shively, all of Kokomo, Mrs. Jack McKinney of Rochester, and Carl Zody of Columbus, Ohio.  She has 12 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Archie Shively, 84, died at 8 p.m. Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Reel, 2419 N. Union St., after a long illness.

He was born Sept. 8, 1869, in Pekin, Ill., son of Alfred and Amanda (Strickler) Shively. He moved to Wawpecong where he spent his boyhood and adulthood before moving to Kokomo 40 years ago.

He was a contract carpenter until ill health forced his retirement several years ago.

In 1908 he was married to Estella Zody who survives. Other survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Olive Jean Hunt, Mrs. Reel and Mrs. Diane Hooker, all of Kokomo, Mrs. Jack McKinney of Tipton and Mrs. Glee Himer of Plymouth; two sons, Claude and Melvin Shively, both of Kokomo, and one stepson, Carl Zody, Columbus, O.

Surviving also are one sister, Mrs. Ray Oldfather of Galveston; four brothers, Frank Shively of Peru, Jesse of South Bend, Pearl of Wawpecong and Lawrence of Hammond; 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Ellers Chapel, with the Rev. Rolland Steever officiating. Burial will be in Albright Cemetery. Friends may call at the Ellers Chapel after 11 a.m. Monday.

Israel Shively And Wife, Syntha (Cynthia) Ann Brooks, From Ashland County, Ohio To Miami County, Indiana

Israel Shively Marriage, Richland Co., OH 1841

Descendants of Israel Shively who lived in Ashland County, OH and Miami County, IN expressed interest in his lineage this past week.  Israel was the son of John Shively (1800-1873) and Margaret Risinger (Bisinger) (1802-1887).  The family is searching for a document that might prove that Israel was the son of John and Margaret.  Israel died before his father, John, died and John did not leave a will. If other Shively researchers have done work in Miami County, IN and have a deed or church record that might help establish the relationship between John and Israel Shively please add a comment to this blog.

Israel Shively was married to Syntha (Sintha, Cyntha, Cynthia) Ann Brooks in Richland County, OH on 9-Sep-1841.  Israel Shively was already married by 1850 which is the first year that all members of a household were listed.  On the 1850 Ashland County, OH census John Shiveley is listed and the next household is the family of Israel Shiveley. Shiveley was listed on the previous page as head of household and this page starts with his wife and family).  By 1860 the families have moved to Miami County, IN. On the 1860 Jefferson Township is the family of Isreal Shively age 39, wife Cynthia age 27, son Phillip age 17, son Alfred age 15, daughter Margaret age 12, son Martin age 8, daughter Mary J age 5, son Manuel age 3, son Alonzo age 8 months, Mary J Shively age 23 assisting with house work (sister to Israel), Emmaline Bemer age 18 helping with housework, and Buels Daniels age 60. Two more sons were born to Israel and Syntha.  They were William H Shively born 19-May-1862 and James Grant Shively born 1866.

From various records the following information was found regarding the family of Israel Shively.  On the web site Find A Grave a picture of the pieces of the tombstone for Syntha A Shively was shown.  She is buried in the Chittick Cemetery, Miami County, IN (born 11-Jan-1824 and died 11-May-1890).   Their eldest son, Phillip Shively (1842-1865) is also buried in the Chittick Cemetery.

Alfred Shively was born 23-Sep-1844 and died 11-May-1935, buried in Galveston Cemetery.  He was married on 31-Dec-1865 to Amanda Stickler.  Extracted from The Kokomo Tribune, (Kokomo, IN), Monday, May 13, 1935, Page 2, Column 3:

Alfred Shively Succumbs At Advanced Age: Funeral Rites Tuesday

Bunker Hill, Ind., May 12--(Tribune Special)--Alfred Shively, 90, died at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon at his home in Waupecong.

He was born Sept. 23, 1844, in Ohio, being one of nine children of Israel and Cynthia Shively.  When a small boy he moved with his parents to Illinois where they lived for a short time and then moved one-half mile south of Waupecong, where the deceased spent practically his entire life.  Dec. 31, 1865, he was married to Amanda Stickler.  Eleven children were born to them, four daughters having preceded him in death.

Surviving children are: Archie Shively, 2405 North Union street, Kokomo; Jesse, South Bend; Walter and Pearl, Waupecong; Frank, R.F.D. No. 6, Peru; Lawrence, Waupecong; Mrs. Eva Oldfather, R.F.D. No. 1, Galveston.

He is survived also by one brother, William of McGrawsville, twenty-six grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Mr. Shively enlisted in the union army during the Civil war and served until the end of the war as a private.  He was in Company K, 155th Indiana Regiment infantry.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the U. B. church in Waupecong with the Rev. Thomas Shively of Nead officiating.  Burial will follow in Galveston cemetery.  The body was taken to the Wayne Ladd funeral home in Miami to be prepared for burial and was returned to the home Sunday night.

The Daughters of the Union Veterans of Peru will have charge of the services at the church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Kokomo will conduct full military funeral rites at the cemetery with a grandson, Claud Shively of Kokomo in charge.

Mr. Shively was a member of the G. A. R. post at Peru.

William H. Shively

AMBOY (Tribune Area Special) -- William H. Shively, 93, lifelong resident of McGrawsville community, died at 3:45 a.m. Wednesday in Dukes Memorial Hospital, Peru.  He had been ill with heart trouble for three weeks.

Mr. Shively was born in Clay Township, Miami County, May 19, 1962, the son of Israel and Cynthia (Brooks) Shively, was was the last survivor of a family of 10 children.

He was married Sept. 4, 1892 to Alice Jenkins.  She lost her life in a train accident in 1919.

He was a carpenter throughout his active years and was a member of the McGrawsville Methodist Church.

Surviving are three daughters and two sons, Mrs. Merle Powell, Bunker Hill R. R. 1; Mrs. Grace Christner and Mrs. Dorothy Glassburn, Amboy R. R. 1; Oscar Shively, Kokomo R. R. 3 and Raymond Shively, Bunker Hill R. R. 1.  There are 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

The body is at the Laird Funeral Home, Amboy where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. CST Friday, the Rev. Jesse Byrd of the McGrawsville Methodist Church officiating.  Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery, Amboy.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Thursday until the hour of the service.

Samuel T. Shively Who Lived In Grant County, Indiana

Samuel T. Shively was born ca 1849 and died in June-1938.  He was the son of Martin Shively born 1801 and Susan born 1806.  Samuel T. Shively married Rebecca Kiser on 20-Dec-1867 in Miami County, IN. He married second Hannah Malinda Shoffstall Woolery (Wolary) on 22-May-1894 in Grant County, IN.  She was married first to Henry Woolery on 1-Mar-1877 in Auglaize Co., OH.  

In the Samuel Shively household listed on the 1880 Jackson township, Miami County, IN census are Samuel age 29, wife Rebecca age 27, daughter Mary L age 11, son Charles age 9 and son William age 6.  Samuel Shively and family are listed on the 1900 Sims township, Grant County, IN census as Samuel Shively age 52,  wife Hannah M age 42, stepson Granvill Woolery age 20 and stepson Harvey Woolery age 17.

Swayzee Press, Friday, March 30, 1906, Page 8, Column 3:   Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Shively have been entertaining, this week, Mr. Shively's mother, of Platt county, Kansas.

Swayzee Press, Friday, October 15, 1909, Page 7, Column 4:     Sam Shively came near losing his home by fire Monday evening.  Mrs. Shively had put a lot of wood in the kitchen stove oven to dry and then gone to neighbors.  When Sam came home to supper he found the wood on fire and house full of smoke.  Prompt action and a little water soon put everything out of danger, but it was lucky that the discovery was made before any of the burning wood dropped to the floor.

Experience With Coal Gas

Mr. and Mrs. Sam Shively had an experience Monday morning which they do not care to have repeated.  When they awoke, early in the morning, they found that both had a severe headache and were also suffering with a peculiar sickness which seemed to effect them all over.  Sam felt drowsy and was inclined to sleep, but Mrs. Shively suffered pain, which grew rapidly worse.  On arising they felt a dizziness and found it difficult to walk without staggering. On reaching the open air and ventilating the house well the sickness gradually wore off, but the dizziness lingered to some extent all day.

The cause of the peculiar experience is believed to have been coal gas escaping from the base burner.  They slept up stairs over the room containing the stove and a register in the floor near the bed supplied heat from below.  The chimney is one of the small kind built in the days of natural gas.  It was built for a grate and was therefore somewhat open at the bottom. For these reasons the stove did not have a strong draft.  Besides, Mrs. Shively and closed the damper in the stove pipe to keep the fire from getting too hot, and the outside air being still and sultry during the night, it is believed that poisonous gases escaped from the stove and caused the peculiar sickness.

The experience of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Shively Monday morning may well serve as a warning to all who sleep in or near a room in which a fire is kept all night.  Some of the gases produced by the burning of coal are very poisonous and it is very essential that these gases do not escape into the living or sleeping rooms.  Care should be taken that all joints in  stove pipes are close and tight and that pipes and chimneys are kept open enough to carry all the smoke and fumes up the chimneys as fast as they are formed in the stove.

Death of Harvey Woolry

A letter from Mrs. Samuel Shively, written at Whittier, California, on January 8th, states that her son, Harvey Woolry, at whose bedside she has been for several weeks, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 3, at 8 o'clock.  She states that he suffered much near the last but died with the assurance that he had made his peace with God and was ready to go.  The body will not be interred at once, but will be preserved and brought here for burial.  On account of Mrs. Shively's exhausted condition and cold weather, however they have decided not to return home until the severe part of the winter is over, perhaps three months hence.  Mr. Shively will secure employment there for the time and they will notify friends here of their departure in ample time to be prepared for their arrival.

Mrs. Malinda Shively, who has been separated from her husband, Samuel Shively for several weeks past, returned to Swayzee Wednesday in company with a lady friend, Mrs. Marsh, and had her household goods loaded into a car and shipped to SantaFe, Ohio, the home of her father, where we understand she expects to make her home.

Granville Wolary

The body of Granville Wolary was brought here last Saturday from Terre Haute and laid to rest in Thrailkill cemetery, north of town.  Mr. Wolary spent his boyhood days in Swayzee and his mother, Mrs. Malinda Wolary, resides here now.  The sympathy of the community is extended to Mrs. Wolary in her sorrow as Granville was the only remaining member of her family, the husband and other son having died several years ago.

Leroy Anthony Shively was the son of Daniel P. Shively and Harriet Little.  He was born on 26-July-1869 and died 21-May-1946 in Indianapolis, Marion County, IN.  On 2-Aug-1899 in Miami County, IN he was married to Carrie Bell Jacobs.  On 14-July-1926 in Fulton County, IN he was married to Lenora E. Clark.

LEROY A. SHIVELY

The career of Mr. Shively, now probably the best known and the ablest auctioneer in Miami county, has many points of interest.  He is a native of Miami county, who in his young manhood left his home surroundings and began his practical adventures in the west.  After a number of years of more or less successful enterprises in western states, he returned to his old county, and now for twenty years has been actively identified with the farming and general business affairs of this locality.  Mr. Shively was born on a farm in Pipe Creek township on July 26, 1869.

His father was the late Daniel P. Shively, whose career and character are worthy of long remembrance in the community which was his home for so many years, and to which he contributed so many uplifting and substantial influences.  Daniel P. Shively was born near Dayton, Ohio, was reared on a farm in the discipline of hard work and when a boy received only limited educational advantages.  As he grew up he began to appreciate his lack of schooling, and at every opportunity that was offered he studied and read with consuming ardor the most instructive literature.  His family were strong in the faith of the German-Baptist church and he was reared in the faith.  In his community in Miami county he came in time to exercise the influence of one of the leading citizens, and with his intense energy and religious zeal almost naturally took a place as local preacher among the adherents of his own faith.  He was known as a keen reasoner, a profound student of the bible, and in every relation of life his influence was for morality and practical good.  His death occurred in July, 1900.  An immense concourse of sorrowing friends followed his body to its last resting place, and on that day were paid many heartfelt tributes to his noble nature and many worthy deeds of his lifetime.

LeRoy A. Shively spent his boyhood in the old community of Pipe Creek township.  He attended the district school which was nearest the old home and trained his body by the vigorous work of the farm and the sports and diversions which country boys usually follow.  When twenty years of age he started out for himself and chose the west as a field for his early enterprise.  He was in Kansas and Colorado for some time.  Among the work which he did in Kansas was as engineer for the Great Bend Milling Company.  His experience in running an engine was practically nothing, but the company wanted an engineer, and he wanted work, so they arranged matters to their mutual satisfaction.  He continued in his place as engineer for about eighteen months, and when he left it was on his own volition and not because the company requested it.  During the following year he was engaged in carpentering and contracting, and for two years was engaged in prospecting and work in the mines at Galena, Kansas.

On returning to Miami county in 1893, Mr. Shively established himself on a farm and began the breeding of Hereford cattle, an enterprise which he continued for six years.  Selling out, he then associated himself with the late Col. Allie Powell in live stock auctioneering.  During three years of his association he made his home at Wabash.  After the death of Col. Powell in 1906, Mr. Shively continued his vocation as auctioneer on his own responsibility, and has had a large business in that calling.  For three years he was engaged in the management of the farm known as the Jerry Hardwick farm for the Shirk estate.

Mr. Shively is in politics a Democrat, and a good citizen without participating in practical party affairs.  On August 2, 1899, he married Miss Carrie B. Jacobs, of Pipe Creek township.  Their two children are Ralph D. and Dorris E.  Mrs. Shively is a member of the Methodist church.

Victim Of Apoplexy

(Special to the News-Sentinel)  PERU, Ind., April 13. --Mrs. Carrie B. Shively, aged 45 years,  wife of Leroy Shively, prominent farmer and stockman of this city, died at her home here Wednesday.  Death was due to apoplexy.  Mr. Shively and two children survive.  The funeral services will be conducted from the residence Friday morning.

Coming as a complete surprise to their many friends, is the marriage of Miss Lenora Clark and L. A. Shively which was solemnized this morning in Peru, by the brother of the groom.  Mrs. Shively, who is a trained nurse has made her home in this city for several years with Miss Mary Gould.  Mr. Shively is a member of the firm of Stehle and Shively of this city, formerly of Peru.

Former Assessor Dies

Leroy A. Shively, 76, former Miami county assessor, died of a complication of ailments in Methodist hospital at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning.  His residence was at 286 1/2 West Third street.  He had been a patient in the hospital three weeks.

Survivors include the widow, Lenora, and two children, Ralph D. Shively, of Reynoldsburg, O., and Mrs. Doris Rohrer, of Ft. Wayne.  Surviving also are two brothers and a sister, the Rev. Thomas A. Shively, Peru route 4; Charles Shively, of Huntington, Pa., and Mrs. David Cripe, of Peru.

A resident of Peru practically all his life, the deceased was born here, a son of Daniel P. Shively.  He was a member of the Methodist church and the Bunker Hill Masonic lodge.

Funeral services will be conducted in the First Christian church here at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon.  The Rev. Lee Jackson, pastor of the church, will officiate and interment will be in Mt. Hope cemetery here.  The Masonic burial will be exemplified at the grave.

The body was to be returned Thursday from the Eikenberry funeral home to the late residence, 286 1/2 West Third street, where it was announced that friends may call after 7 p.m. Thursday.

        Mrs. Lenora Shively Dies in Charleston Nursing Home

(Special to the Journal-Gazette)   Charleston, Ill. -- Mrs. Lenora Shively died Saturday at the Cunningham nursing home in Charleston.  She had been a patient there since 1947.  Funeral services are incomplete.  She is survived by a step-son, two nieces, and a step-daughter.

William Harrison Shively, Son Of Daniel P. Shively And Harriet Little

Daniel P. Shively was the son of Daniel Shively and Catherine Bowman.  Daniel P. Shively was born on 24-November-1841 in Montgomery County, Ohio and died on 22-July-1900 in Miami County, Indiana.  He was married in January-1864 to Harriet Little.  Harriet was born in 1847 and died 10-January-1923.  Children of Daniel P. Shively and Harriet Little included:   William Harrison 1866-1930 or 1933; Anthony Leroy 1869-1946; Charles Stacey 1875-1958; Edna May 1881-1963 and Thomas Albert Shively 1883-1953.

Daniel P. Shively was a minister in the Dunkard church.  A newspaper obituary was located in the Logansport Daily-Pharos, Tuesday, July 24, 1900, Page 8, Column 1: Rev. Daniel Shively of Pipe Creek township, one of the best known Dunkard ministers in this section of the state, died Sunday afternoon after a two weeks siege of neuralgia of the heart. He leaves a family.  The funeral will be held tomorrow.

A son of Daniel Shively and Harriet Little, William Harrison Shively was born on 2-April-1866 in Miami County, Indiana and died 27-May-1930 or 1933 buried Coolidge Cemetery, Hamilton County, Kansas.   He married Olive Wealthy Chronister, daughter of John Chronister and Drucilla Shawman, on 22-February-1888.  Olive was born in Dec-1865, died in 1922, buried Coolidge Cemetery, Hamilton County, Kansas.   Children of William and Olive included:  daughter Georgia born 11-Dec-1890 or 1891 died January-1969 married Mr. Shanstrom; son Charles Daniel born 14-Jan-1894 or 1895 died 14-May-1977 buried Coolidge Cemetery; daughter Edna L born 17-Jan-1897 died 22-Jan-1974 married Clifford Kindler; daughter Harriet Elizabeth  born 30-April-1899 died 25-March-1911 buried Coolidge Cemetery; son Paul Harold born 20-June-1901 died 31-Jan-1968 buried Coolidge Cemetery;  son Homer Wayne born ca 1909.

William Shively and Olive are listed on the 1900 Hamilton County, Kansas, Coolidge City census.  Olive lists that she had 4 children and 4 children are living. William H Shively and wife Olive are listed on the 1910 Hamilton County, Kansas, Coolidge City census.  The family has grown from 4 children to 6 children.  By 1920 William H Shively and wife Olive had moved to Prowers County, Colorado, Town of Holly.   Listed in the household are daughter Georgia E, age 29, a nurse in a hospital; son Charley D, age 25, a clerk in a bank; daughter Enda L, age 22, a teacher in a grade school; son Paul H, age 18, a laborer on the home farm and Wayne H, age 11, no occupation.

There are many records on the Shively families in Indiana in the towns of Wawpecong, Bennetts Switch, Amboy, Santa Fe, McGrawsville and Bunker Hill.  Some of these families are descendants of Israel Shively and Cynthia (Synthia) Ann Brooks.

The picture at the left shows three members of the team who were Shively's. The picture is the C. H. S. Basketball Team from 1925.  The team members were listed as Ralph Myers, Leonard Johnson, Everett Shively, Laurel Shively, Raymond Shively, Omer Conn, and Harry Wolf.  The three Shivelys are descendants of Israel and Cynthia Ann Brooks.  Everett and Laurel Shively are brothers.  Their great-grandfather was Israel Shively, grandfather Alfred Shively, and father Walter H. Shively.  Raymond Shively was the grandson of Israel Shively and his father was William Henry Shively.  William Henry Shively was born in 1862 and married at age 30 and Alfred Shively was born in 1844 and married at age 21.

William Henry Shively was born on 19-May-1862 in Miami County, IN and died 28-Dec-1955 in McGrawsville, IN.  He was married on 4-September-1892 to Alice Louisa Jenkins.  Alice L. Jenkins was born on 4-May-1874 in Miami County, IN and died 29-May-1919, buried Park Lawn Cem.  William Henry Shively and Alice L. Jenkins were the parents of the following children:  Merle Edith born 24-December-1893 and died 9-Feb-1985.  She married 23-October-1923 to Charles Alvin Powell; John W. born 1896 died 1906, buried Park Lawn Cem.; Grace Elizabeth born 22-February-1898 died 12-November-1984, buried Park Lawn Cem.  She married Harry Irvin Christner on 12-March-1917; Oscar born 31-July-1902 died 29-December-1967 in Phoenix, AZ.  He married Vera Worl on 28-November-1928; Raymond born 28-October-1906 died 1-July-1974, buried Santa Fe Cem.  He married Mildred Childers on 13-April-1928; Dorothy H born 12-March-1914 died 31-July-1976, buried Santa Fe Cem.  She married Nelson Glassburn on 30-January-1935.

Another Dangerously Injured When Train Struck Automobile

Peru, Ind. May 29.—Mrs. William Shively was killed and Mrs. Charles Sharp was injured dangerously this afternoon when the automobile in which they were riding was struck by a Pennsylvania railroad engine on the crossing at McGrawsville south of here.  Russel Sharp, son of Mrs. Sharp was injured slightly.  The party were returning from a cemetery where they had decorated the graves of relatives with flowers.  The automobile caught on fire and was burned following the accident.

Raymond Shively, son of William Henry Shively and Alice Jenkins, was a member of the 1925 C.H.S. Basketball Team pictured above.  The following newspaper obituary was found in the Logansport Pharos-Tribune, Tuesday, July 2, 1974, Page 2, Column 4:

R. Shively Dies At 67

Bunker Hill – Raymond O. Shively, 67, Rt 1, died Monday at 11:40 a.m. at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital, Kokomo.  He had been ill since February.

Born October 28, 1906, in Miami county, he was the son of William Henry and Alice Jenkins Shively.  He was married April 13, 1928, to Mildred Childers, who survives.

Shively was a retired carpenter who was a member of the McGrawsville United Methodist Church, Crescent Lodge No. 280 in Miami and the York Rite in Peru.

Survivors besides his wife include four sons, William A., Rt. 1, Bunker Hill, Robert E., Marion, Larry A., Bunker Hill, and James E. of Rt. 5, Perup three sisters Merle Powell, Rt. 1, Amboy, Grace Christner, North Grove, and Dorothy Glassburn, Rt. 1, Amboy; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  One son and two brothers preceded him in death.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Allen Funeral Home with burial in the Santa Fe Cemetery, the Rev. Robert L. Melling officiating.  Masonic services will be tonight at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
