This site was created by Larry Shively who is researching the history of the Shively families. The goal is to have a site where all Shively researchers can share and ask questions in regards to their Shively lines. The largest majority of the Shively family records are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. There are early records of Shively's also in Virginia and Kentucky. There are not many established Shively lineages back to Europe. There are documented lineages to Switzerland and Germany. Through the sharing of information from all of our research it is desired that all can learn about our Shively families.

William Henry Shively And Alice Louisa Jenkins From Miami County, Indiana

There are many records on the Shively families in Indiana in the towns of Wawpecong, Bennetts Switch, Amboy, Santa Fe, McGrawsville and Bunker Hill.  Some of these families are descendants of Israel Shively and Cynthia (Synthia) Ann Brooks.
The picture at the left shows three members of the team who were Shively's. The picture is the C. H. S. Basketball Team from 1925.  The team members were listed as Ralph Myers, Leonard Johnson, Everett Shively, Laurel Shively, Raymond Shively, Omer Conn, and Harry Wolf.  The three Shivelys are descendants of Israel and Cynthia Ann Brooks.  Everett and Laurel Shively are brothers.  Their great-grandfather was Israel Shively, grandfather Alfred Shively, and father Walter H. Shively.  Raymond Shively was the grandson of Israel Shively and his father was William Henry Shively.  William Henry Shively was born in 1862 and married at age 30 and Alfred Shively was born in 1844 and married at age 21.
William Henry Shively was born on 19-May-1862 in Miami County, IN and died 28-Dec-1955 in McGrawsville, IN.  He was married on 4-September-1892 to Alice Louisa Jenkins.  Alice L. Jenkins was born on 4-May-1874 in Miami County, IN and died 29-May-1919, buried Park Lawn Cem.  William Henry Shively and Alice L. Jenkins were the parents of the following children:  Merle Edith born 24-December-1893 and died 9-Feb-1985.  She married 23-October-1923 to Charles Alvin Powell; John W. born 1896 died 1906, buried Park Lawn Cem.; Grace Elizabeth born 22-February-1898 died 12-November-1984, buried Park Lawn Cem.  She married Harry Irvin Christner on 12-March-1917; Oscar born 31-July-1902 died 29-December-1967 in Phoenix, AZ.  He married Vera Worl on 28-November-1928; Raymond born 28-October-1906 died 1-July-1974, buried Santa Fe Cem.  He married Mildred Childers on 13-April-1928; Dorothy H born 12-March-1914 died 31-July-1976, buried Santa Fe Cem.  She married Nelson Glassburn on 30-January-1935.

Peru Woman Killed
Another Dangerously Injured When Train Struck Automobile
Peru, Ind. May 29.—Mrs. William Shively was killed and Mrs. Charles Sharp was injured dangerously this afternoon when the automobile in which they were riding was struck by a Pennsylvania railroad engine on the crossing at McGrawsville south of here.  Russel Sharp, son of Mrs. Sharp was injured slightly.  The party were returning from a cemetery where they had decorated the graves of relatives with flowers.  The automobile caught on fire and was burned following the accident.

Raymond Shively, son of William Henry Shively and Alice Jenkins, was a member of the 1925 C.H.S. Basketball Team pictured above.  The following newspaper obituary was found in the Logansport Pharos-Tribune, Tuesday, July 2, 1974, Page 2, Column 4:
R. Shively Dies At 67
Bunker Hill – Raymond O. Shively, 67, Rt 1, died Monday at 11:40 a.m. at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital, Kokomo.  He had been ill since February.
Born October 28, 1906, in Miami county, he was the son of William Henry and Alice Jenkins Shively.  He was married April 13, 1928, to Mildred Childers, who survives.
Shively was a retired carpenter who was a member of the McGrawsville United Methodist Church, Crescent Lodge No. 280 in Miami and the York Rite in Peru.
Survivors besides his wife include four sons, William A., Rt. 1, Bunker Hill, Robert E., Marion, Larry A., Bunker Hill, and James E. of Rt. 5, Perup three sisters Merle Powell, Rt. 1, Amboy, Grace Christner, North Grove, and Dorothy Glassburn, Rt. 1, Amboy; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  One son and two brothers preceded him in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Allen Funeral Home with burial in the Santa Fe Cemetery, the Rev. Robert L. Melling officiating.  Masonic services will be tonight at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
