This site was created by Larry Shively who is researching the history of the Shively families. The goal is to have a site where all Shively researchers can share and ask questions in regards to their Shively lines. The largest majority of the Shively family records are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. There are early records of Shively's also in Virginia and Kentucky. There are not many established Shively lineages back to Europe. There are documented lineages to Switzerland and Germany. Simeon Shively and Sarah Jolly were married in Carroll County, Ohio on 9-May-1839.  They are listed on the 1860 Canton Township, Stark County, OH in the household of Matthias Sawmiller age 26, Simeon Shively age 58, wife Sarah age 38, son John age 19, son James age 18, son George age 15, daughter Margaret age 9, Mary Duell age 14 and Jane Jolly age 42. The siblings seemed to live together at various times as listed on the census records.  On the 1900 Canton Township, Stark County, OH census is the household of Adam W. Young born Oct-1852 age 47, wife Margaret J. born Mar-1854 age 46, brother-in-law- John Shively born Jul-1846 age 53 and brother-in-law James Shively born Aug-1845 age 54. Located on the 1910 Canton Township, Stark County, OH census is the household of Adam W. Young age 56, wife Margaret age 54 and brother-in-law James Shively age 59. Listed on the 1920 Canton Township, Stark County, OH census is the household of Adam W. Young age 66, wife Margaret J. age 63 and brother-in-law George Shively age 71.

Death Of Simeon Shively
Mr. Simeon Shively died at the residence of his son-in-law, A. W. Young, at 69 East Tuscarawas street, yesterday morning at 2 o'clock, aged 88 years. Father Shively was born in Steubenville, Jefferson county, O., September 4, 1800, and during his life he never was out of the State though living for years on the border of Pennsylvania and Virginia. He came to Stark county about 1850 and lived in Pike township afterwards. About 1868 he came to Canton, where he has resided ever since. He leaves four children and 11 grand children. He was buried in Rowland cemetery this afternoon.

Died At The Age of 64 Years - A Resident Of Canton For 30 Years
John Shively, aged 64 years, died at 2 o'clock this, Friday, morning at the residence of his brother-in-law, Adam Young, No. 339 East Fifth street, after an illness of two weeks with pneumonia. The deceased was born at Harlem Springs, October, 1847, and has resided in Canton about thirty years. His wife preceded him in death about twelve years.  He is survived by three grown children, Mrs. William Jones, of East Liverpool, and William and Jennie who reside in Canton. Funeral services Sunday afternoon from the house, Rev. E. P. Henbruck to officiate. Interment in Rowland cemetery.

James Shively Passes Away
James Shively, 66, died Friday at the home of Adam Young, 339 East Fifth street, from dropsy. George Shively of Poplar, and Mrs. Margaret Young, 339 East Fifth street, a sister, survive. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at the Miller-Blanchard undertaking parlors. Rev. R. A. Cassidy will be in charge.

Pioneer Of Stark County Dies At Niece's Home
George Shively, a life resident of Stark county, died at noon today at the home of his niece Mrs. Bessie Sisterhen, 143 18th street NW. He was born in Mapleton and had lived in this vicinity all his life. He was a member of the First United Brethren church.
He leaves two sons, George and Paul of Canton, three daughters, Mrs. F. A. Fields and Mrs. C. E. Smith of Canton and Mrs. John Weber of Massachusetts; 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the Seesholtz parlors in charge of Rev. P. M. Redd. Burial will be in Rowland cemetery. Friends may call at the Seesholtz parlors Wednesday after 7 p.m.

Robert Charles Shively And Nannie T. Harden Who Lived In Taylor County, Kentucky

Paul Shively in the picture to the left is the son of Robert Charles Shively. Robert Charles Shively was born 23-Aug-1895 and died 3-Dec-1968 in Taylor County, KY. He was the son of William S. Shively (1863-1957) and Emma Rebecca Bowles (1861-1928). William S. Shively was the son of William Jacob Shively (1825-1913) and Esther A Newcomb (1833-1910). William Jacob Shively was a son of Jacob Shively (1772-1851) and Sophia Davis (1779-1850). Jacob Shively was the son of Michael Shively. 

Robert Charles Shively married in 1930 to Nannie T. Harden Rouse. Nannie T. Harden was born 1-May-1898 and died 20-Mar-1948 in Taylor County, KY.  She married 1st in 1919 to Henry William Rouse (1899-1922). Nannie and Henry Rouse had at least two children -h Fred and Henry Rouse. Robert and Nannie Shively had the following children: Annie E. Shively (1930-2015), Robert Harden Shively (1932-1962), Charles Jr. (1935-1977), Leroy Shively (1937-1991), William Jackson Shively (1942-1942) and Paul Shively.

Died At Indianapolis
Henry Rouse, of this city, who, with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Rouse, left last week for Dallas, Tex., for the benefit of his health, died yesterday at Indianapolis, word today stated. The body will be taken to Campbellsville, Ky., for burial. The widow, parents and two children survive. The decedent had suffered with tuberculosis for eight years.

Fred Rouse Dies Sunday At Hospital
Fred L. Rouse, 49, Rout 1, died Sunday at Bartholomew county hospital. He was a former employee of Cummins Engine company, retiring in 1965 due to ill health.
Mr. Rouse was born in Taylor county, Ky., the son of Henry and Nannie Harden Rouse. He married Mrs. Pauline Kinney on June 26, 1952. She survives. He was a member of Mt. Nebo United Methodist church.
Other survivors include three sons, Carl Rouse of Charlestown and Morris and Mark Rouse, both at home; a stepson, Thomas Kinney of 1104 Eighteenth street; two daughters, Mrs. Dwayne Burton and Mrs. Richard Allman, both of Edinburg; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Larry Krebbs of 729 Chestnut street; a brother, Henry Rouse of Freetown; three half brothers, Paul Shively of Nashville, Leroy Shively of Route 9 and Charles Shively of Campbellsville, Ky.; a half sister, Mrs. Emma Taylor of Campbellsville; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Henry Rouse, and two half brothers, Robert and William Shively.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver funeral home by the Rev. Kenneth Kritzer. Persons my call from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and until time of services Wednesday.  Burial will be at Garland Brook cemetery.

BROWNSTOWN -- Henry Turner Rouse, 78, of Freetown died at 7:15 a.m. Sunday, May 20, 2001, at Columbus Regional Hospital after an extended illness.
Mr. Rouse drove a bus at Camp Atterbury during World War II, worked at Cummins Engine Co., for 18 years and also drove a truck for Rumph's Marathon, Hukill Oil Co. and Cosco.
He was a member of Mount Nebo United Church in Brown County.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m Thursday at Winklepleck-Weesner Funeral Home with the Rev. David Ison officiating. Calling will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from noon until service time Thursday. Burial will be at Freetown Cemetery.
Memorial may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Lung Association or the donor's choice of charities.
Mr. Rouse was born in Taylor County, Ky., July 5, 1922, the son of Henry William and Nanny Turner Hardin Rouse. He was the stepson of Robert Shively. He married Elma Ople Tedder Sept. 13, 1941, in Adair County, Ky. She died May 14, 1997. 
Surviving are children, Marvin and Melvin Rouse, both of Yavapai County, Ariz., Maurice "David" Rouse of Spraytown, Michial Rouse of Freetown, Margarett Moussa of Houston and Marcella Hopkins of Seymour; grandchildren, Timothy Rouse and Sherri Jones, both of Somerset, Ky., Chris and Jenny Rouse, both of Indianapolis, Mostafa Moussao of Houston, Marc Hopkins of Seymour, D. J. Rouse of Spraytown, Zebulon, Carmeleta and Sabrina Rouse, all of Freetown, Michelle Davers of North Vernon and Donna Garvey of Medora; a half sister, Emma Hourigan of Campbellsville, Ky.; a half brother, Paul Shively of Campbellsville; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sons, Kenneth and Dean Rouse; a grandson, Daryl Henry Rouse; a brother, Fred Rouse; half brothers, Robert, Charles and Leroy Shively; and a great-grandson.

Former resident Leroy Shively, 53, of Columbus, died Friday, July 12, 1991, at the emergency room of Bartholomew County Hospital.
A Reliance Electric Company worker, he was a member of the Baptist Church in Kentucky.
Mr. Shively was born in Campbellsville, Kentucky, the son of Robert and Nannie Harden Shively. He married Sylvia Pelston October 13, 1967. She survives.
Other survivors include sons, Jeff Shively of Campbellsville and Steve Shively, stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army; daughters, Debbie Turner of Tennessee and Patricia Lowe of Columbus; a brother Paul Shively of Campbellsville, a half-brother, Henry Rouse of Freetown; a sister, Emma Harrigan of Campbellsville and eight grandchildren.
Services were Monday at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home in Columbus with the Reverend Orville Turner officiating. Burial was in Garland Brook Cemetery.

Alvin Cleveland Shively And Wife, Marilla Geraldine Squire, Who Lived In Montgomery County, Ohio

Alvin Cleveland Shively was born on 6-Mar-1886 and died 18-May-1956 in Montgomery County, Ohio.  He was the son of John Daniel Shively (born 29-Oct-1860 died 25-Dec-1933) and Elizabeth Harriet Brubaker (born 13-Jan-1870 died 3-Sep-1949). John Daniel Shively was the son of Owen Gripe Shively (1815-1904) and Hannah Ullery (1816-1890). Alvin Cleveland Shively married Marilla Geraldine Squire on 13-Sep-1906. Marilla was born 22-Sep-1886 and died 19-Oct-1974. Marilla was the daughter of William Henry Squire (born 29-Aug-1855 died 2-Dec-1921) and Harriet Jane Griftner (born 28-Dec-1856 died 12-Feb-1893).  William Henry Squire was the son of Daniel W. Squire (1830-1876) and Mary Ann Hoover (1830-1907). 

Listed on the 1900 Dayton City, Montgomery County, Ohio census is the household of John Shively born Oct 1861 age 38, wife Elizabeth H. born Jan-1870 age 30, son Alvin C. born Mar-1886 age 14, son Franklin born Aug-1887 age 12, son Clarence born Aug-1890 age 9 and servant Josie Matos born May-1884 age 16. Located on the 1910 Dayton City, Montgomery County, Ohio census is the household of Alvin C. Shiveley age 24, wife Marilla age 22, and daughter Lucile age 2. Listed on the 1920 Dayton City, Montgomery County, Ohio census is the family of Alvin Shively age 33, wife Geraldine age 32, daughter Lucile age 11, son Kenneth age 8 and son Robert age 6. On the 1930 Dayton City, Montgomery County, Ohio census is the household of Alvin C. Shively age 44, wife Geraldine age 43, daughter Lucile H age 21, son Kenneth J. age 18 and son Robert W. age 16.

Alvin C. Shively, 70, of 1221 Old Orchard av., died unexpectedly at 6 a.m. Friday at his residence after a brief illness.
Mr. Shively was born in Montgomery county and had resided most of his life in Dayton. He had been a salesman for the Harris-Seybold Co. 31 years, retiring about seven years ago.
Mr. Shively was a member of Mack Memorial Church of the Brethren; Mystic lodge, F&AM; Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton, and the Antioch Temple Shrine.
Surviving are his wife, Geraldine; a daughter, Mrs. Lucille Herbert; two sons, Kenneth J. and Robert W., and a brother, Dr. F. L. Shively Sr., all of Dayton, and three grandchildren and a great grandchild.

Mr. Shively died unexpectedly at 6 a.m. Friday at his residence after a brief illness. He retired about seven years ago after being a salesman for the Harris-Seybold Co. for 31 years.
