This site was created by Larry Shively who is researching the history of the Shively families. The goal is to have a site where all Shively researchers can share and ask questions in regards to their Shively lines. The largest majority of the Shively family records are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. There are early records of Shively's also in Virginia and Kentucky. There are not many established Shively lineages back to Europe. There are documented lineages to Switzerland and Germany. Through the sharing of information from all of our research it is desired that all can learn about our Shively families.

James Floyd Shively And Anna Elizabeth Fowler Who Lived In Marion County, Kentucky

James Floyd Shively was born Nov-1862 in Phillipsburg, Marion County, KY and died 3-Nov-1936 in Phillipsburg, Marion County, KY. He is buried in the St. Francis de Saales Cemetery in Spurlington, Taylor County, KY. James Floyd Shively was the son of Thomas Robert Shively (born 6-Jun-1833 died 15-Sep-1910 buried St. Francis de Saales Cemetery) and Julia Ann Jarboe (1838-1922).  Thomas Robert Shively was the son of Henry H. Shively and Elizabeth Heaverin.  Henry H. Shively was the son of John Shively and Susannah Hayden.

James Floyd Shively married Anna Eliza Fowler  on 22-Nov-1887 at St. Francis Catholic Church. This Marriage Bond is recorded in Marion County, KY Marriage Volume 9, Pages 616-617.  According to this information James was 25 years old and Anniliza was 15 years old.  The bond was signed by Jas. F. Shively and Peter Edelen.

Anna Eliza Fowler was born on 3-Feb-1872 or 1873 and died 16-Jul-1901 in Marion County, KY. She was the daughter of Charles Robert Fowler (1842-1878) and Mary Elizabeth Edelen (1852-unknown).  Anna Eliza is located on the 1880 New Market District, Marion County, KY census in the household of Peter C. Edelen age 40, wife Esther age 28, son Peter C. Jr age 1 and great-niece Annie E. Fowler age 7.

James Floyd Shively and Anna Eliza Fowler were the parents of the following children: 1) Julia Ann Shively born 25-Jul-1894 in Marion County, KY died 18-Oct-1932 buried in Our Lady of the Hills Cemetery, Taylor County, KY.  She married Elmer Green Hay who was born 3-Sep-1885 died 4-Jan-1961 buried Old Liberty Cemetery, Marion County, KY. Elmer was the son of James and Lizzie Hay.  On the death certificate for Julia Ann Shively Hay she lists her parents as Floyd Shively and Anna Jarboe.  Julia would have been about 7 years old when her mother Anna Fowler died in 1901 and her father Floyd Shively would have still been alive in 1932 so am not sure why her mother is listed as Anna Jarboe. (Note that later Anna Jarboe will be discussed in connection with Julia’s sister who was Anna Elizabeth Shively born in May-1901 which was 2 months before the death of their mother, Anna Fowler Shively).   Elmer Green Hay married after the death of Julia Ann Shively to Rhoda Pearl Milby Bell. From the Central Kentucky News Jornal, January 12, 1961 is the following obituary:  Funeral services were conducted Friday at Bradsfordville Baptist Church for Elmer Green Hay, who died Wednesday, January 4, 1961, at St. Joseph Infirmary, Louisville. He was a retired farmer and employee of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad Company.  Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Pearl Milby Hay; 3 daughters, Mrs. Ruth Hinkle, Iowa; Mrs. Rita Wheat, New York; and Mrs. Margaret Sharp, Louisville; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Edgar Edelen, Bradfordsville; 2 sisters, Mrs. Bunn Armstrong and Mrs. Forrest Maupin, both of Campbellsville; George Hay, Venton, IA; and Diezard Hay, Laporte City, IA.  2) James Robert Shively born on 28-Oct-1895 in Marion County, KY died 16-Feb-1967 Louisville, Jefferson County, KY buried Mount Zion Cemetery, Campbellsville, Taylor County, KY. He was married to Viola Allen in 1944.  From the The News-Journal, February 23, 1967: Funeral services were conducted at the Lyon Funeral Home Chapel Sunday, Feb. 19, at 2:00 p.m. for James Robert "Bob" Shively, who died at the Veterans Hospital in Louisville, Thursday, Feb. 16, at 9:25 p.m. Death was due to a cerebral vascular accident. Mr. Shively, 71, lived on Campbellsville Star Route, in the Saloma Community and formerly lived in the Acton Community. He was born in Marion County, October 28, 1885, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Floyd Shively. In May 1944 he was married to Viola Allen, who survives. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Nora Lee Dickerson, Rt. 6; one step-daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Lawson, Star Route; three step-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Annie Hay, Vinton, Iowa. Pallbearers were Leonard and David Lawson, Huston Cox, Franklin Deray, George B. Tungate and Dalton Cox. 3) Lizzie Hester Shively born 1897 4) Anna Elizabeth Shively born 23-May-1901 in Marion County, KY died 24-Nov-1992 in Tampa, Hillsborough County, FL. She was married to George Hamilton Hay (1887-1973). George Hay was a brother to Elmer Hay who married Anna Shively’s sister, Julia Ann Shively. Anna Elizabeth Shively was 2 months old when her mother, Anna Eliza Fowler died in July 1901.  James Floyd Shively must not have wanted to care for a 2 month old baby because Anna Elizabeth Shively was raised in the household of Robert Fowler (1875-1915) and Annie Elizabeth Jarboe (1876-1952). The marriage of Robert C. Fowler and Anna E. Jarboe is recorded in Marion County Marriage Book Volume 12, Pages 178-179. They were married at Calvary on 13-Nov-1894. Annie E. Jarboe was the daughter of James T. Jarboe (1835-1914) and Sarah E. Listed on the 1910 Magisterial District No. 5, Marion County, KY census is the household of Robert C.
