FAMILY REUNION  JUNE 1, 2019 STUTTGART – BAD CANNSTATT, GERMANY ---

Michael Schauffele, Visalia, California is busy preparing for the family reunion on Saturday, June 1, 2019 in Stuttgart – Bad Cannstatt, Germany.  You can view all information pertaining to the reunion at www.Schauffele-family.net  He has requested that if interested please register by Sunday, March 3, 2019.  Michael is also planning for a “cyber-family-reunion” over the Internet for those who are not able to attend the reunion in person.

            The reunion is for all distant relatives and all “surname-related” people who are descendants of Hans Scheif(f)elin, who lived about 1500 in or near Gingen upon Fils, Baden-Wurttemberg/Germany, and of Hans Scheiffelin born about 1570, +21(?) Dec. 1616 as well in Gingen upon Fils. 

            A provisional schedule and list of events for the Reunion on Saturday, June 1, 2019 include:

11:00-12:00 – arrival of participants and “meet and greet” by members of the Kaj-Domnik Schauffele family

12:30-12:45 – welcome of participants by Michael Schauffele and Horacio Percossi

12:45-14:00 – buffet and opportunity to make acquaintances

14:00-14:45 – lecture by Michael Schauffele and Horacio Percossi

About 15:30 – opening of coffee table with cakes and Swabian “Butter-Pretzels”

            A little more information about Michael Schauffele – He is co-administrator of the Shively Family DNA project at FamilyTree DNA. He is the initiator of the above reunion in Germany.  He was born in Stuttgart/Germany on 24-Jul-1942. In 1969 he graduated from the University of Stuttgart with a degree in structural and civil engineering. In 1963 he married Renate Christine Hofman and they have 3 sons and 5 grandchildren. For 40 years he was owner and general manager of a medium-sized group of companies in the area of Stuttgart concerning construction of all kinds of buildings, homebuilding, project development, architectural and engineering offices. In 1983 he and his wife bought a small ranch with the name of “German-S- Ranch” near the city of Visalia, CA. In 2003 they immigrated to live full time on the ranch growing oranges, grapefruit and olives while leasing the pasture to cattle breeders. Michael is still doing business in Schweiberdingen, close to Stuttgart, leasing out an office building which is locally managed by his youngest son, Kaj-Domnnik Schauffele. For almost 40 years Michael’s time for genealogy research was limited by his business career. From about 2013 he started intensively researching again. Finding relatives scattered around the world became the main focus of his family research. Michael is hoping to be able to summarize his genealogy research and write a family chronicle about “The descendants of the two Scheiffele from Gingen upon Fils” to preserve his family history for future generations.

Goldie Shively Strayer Smith, Daughter Of James Patterson Shively And Mary Wrenchler(Renshler), From Henry County, Ohio

Recently a descendant of Goldie (Galela) Anna Shively sent a message that she was interested in learning more about her cousins.  Her ancestor had lived in Canada and while many of her relatives remained in Hancock County and Henry County in Ohio she was interested in knowing more of the family history in Ohio.  The lineage of Goldie Shively was well documented and a search of the newspapers was done to see if further information could be found.  

Goldie Galela Anna Shively was born on 13-Apr-1890 in Hamler, Henry County, OH and died 2-Aug-1982 in Westlcok, AB, Canada.  Goldie was married first to Thomas Effinger "Ferris" Strayer and second to Franklin Pearce Smith.  Goldie was the daughter of James Patterson Shively born 23-Nov-1855 in Hancock County, OH and died 17-Mar-1903 in Henry County, OH and Mary A. Wrenchler(Renshler) (1862-1924).  James Patterson Shively was the son of James Shively (1827-1895) and Polly Mary Treece (1829-1889).

Easter Sunday Event Unites Long Parted Shively Family

Together for the first time at Easter since they were children were Mrs. Albert E. Baker, 634 Hemphill Boulevad; her sister, Mrs. Anna Smith, and their brothers, M. P. and V. L. Shively. Mrs. Baker also celebrated her 78th birthday anniversary.

Mrs. Baker had not seen her sister for 19 years until she arrived in Findlay last Tuesday. The brothers and sisters were brought together for a dinner in honor of Mrs. Smith and her daughters, Mrs. Cecil Ferguson and Mrs. Ruth Baggett of Edmonton, Canada, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Baker.

Mrs. Smith went to live in Newport, Wash., in 1905 and to Canada in 1918. The basket dinner was attended by 48 members of the family and friends. The day was spent taking pictures and visiting.

Family Reunions

Shiveley Family

The first Sunday in August, 1939, was the date set for the 21st annual reunion of the Shiveley family and Ottawa park, Toledo, was the place chosen. Lenord Shiveley was elected president of the association at the 20th meet at Deshler park. Ralph Shiveley was chosen vice-president and Marie Ebersole, secretary-treasuer.

The Shiveleys are native to Henry county where the founder of the family reared 12 children. Once of the sons, Patrick Shiveley, had a family of 11 sons and daughters. Mrs. Nellie Baker, 333 Howard street, is one of his daughters.

The attendance at this year's reunion was 120. All the children of the family, have passed on except Mrs. Lydia Shiveley Litzenberger, wife of Adam Litzenberger, of Allen township. One of his daughters-in-law, Mrs. Henry Shiveley, makes her home with her children in Deshler.

Nearly all the descendants of Grandfather Shiveley resided in Henry county.  Isaac N. Wisely lived in Hancock county, dying on North Cory street some years ago. Mrs. Litzenberger has lived most of her three score-and-ten in Hancock county.

Albert Bakers To Mark 50 Years Of Marriage

The golden wedding anniversary celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Albert E. Baker will take place Sunday in the College First Church of God parlor.

The couple were wed July 11, 1917 by the Rev. Andrew F. Totheroh, pastor of the St. Paul Evangelical United Brethren Church in Findlay.

The Bakers have one son, Richard J. Baker, and a daughter, Mrs. D. L. (Marjorie) Dickey, both of Findlay. A son, Ray Edwin, died in World War II.

Mrs. J. A. Zeiders of Findlay is a sister of Mrs. Baker.

Marion Shively, Findlay, Virgil Shively, Sylvania, and Mrs. Anna Smith of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, are brothers and a sister of Mrs. Baker.

Open house will be observed at the parlor from 2 to 4 p.m.

Mrs. Baker is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick (Mary Renshler) Shively of Henry County. Her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. (Polly Deckard) Baker of Fostoria.

Mr. Baker owned the B and B Oil and Fuel Co. on Walnut St.   Mrs. Baker is president of the Hancock chapter of Gold Star Mothers.

Bothe the Bakers are members of the College First Church of God and Mrs. Baker is a member of the Women's Christian Service Council of the church.
