This site was created by Larry Shively who is researching the history of the Shively families. The goal is to have a site where all Shively researchers can share and ask questions in regards to their Shively lines. The largest majority of the Shively family records are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. There are early records of Shively's also in Virginia and Kentucky. There are not many established Shively lineages back to Europe. There are documented lineages to Switzerland and Germany. Through the sharing of information from all of our research it is desired that all can learn about our Shively families.

Solomon C. Shively Who Lived In Illinois And Bonneville County, Idaho

Solomon C. Shively was born in April-1855 in IN.  He was the son of Stephen Shively (1828-1912) who married in Clinton County, IN ca 1850 to Catharine Metzger (1831-1914). The parents of Stephen Shively were Jacob Shively (1805-1872) and Susan Metzger (1806-1883). The parents of Jacob Shively were Johannes (John) Shively, Sr (1775-1848) and Esther Wolf (1785-1822). The parents of Johannes (John) Shively were Christian Shively, Sr (1744-1834) and Susanna Cripe (1748-1818). The father of Christian Shively was Ulrich (Uli) Shively baptized 8-Jan-1722 in village of Oberdorf, District of Waldenburg, Canton of Baselland, Switzerland.  (For additional information on Solomon C. Solomon C. Shively was married twice. His first wife was Sophrona (last name unknown) and his second wife was Mary Jane Yount.  Listed on the 1870 Town of Oakley, Macon County, IL census record is the family of Stephen Shively age 41, wife Catharine age 39, son John age 17, son Solomon age 15 and daughter Susana age 9.  Located on the 1880 Cerro Gordo, Piatt County, IL census is the family of S A (should be S C) Shively age 26, wife Sophrona age 25, son Joseph age 6, daughter Lilly age 3, daughter Lucy age 1, Ella Long age 15 and L Long.  On the 1900 Bingham Village, Fayette County, IL census is the household of Soliman C Shively born Apr-1855 age 45, wife Mary J. born Mar-1858 age 42, son David H. born May-1881 age 19, son William O. born Sep-1883 age 16, daughter Vinnie M. born Sep-1883 age 16, daughter Catherine born Jul-1888 age 11, son John born Nov-1891 age 8, son Stephen born Nov-1891 age 8 and daughter Mary born Jul-1893 age 6. Listed on the 1910 Decatur City, Macon County, IL census is the family of Solomon C. Shively age 54, wife Mary J. age 52, son David H. age 28, son Willie O. age 26, daughter May age 26, son Stephen age 18 and daughter Mary age 16. On the 1920 Bonneville County, ID census is Will O. Shively age 36, half-brother David H. age 38, brother Steve age 28, father Soml C. age 67 and mother Mary J. age 65.

The following newspaper obituary was extracted from the Times-Register, Idaho Falls, Idaho, Tuesday, February 9, 1926, Page 8, Column 3:
Death Of S. C. Shively
S. C. Shively, on old-time resident of New Sweden, died at Denver, Colo., Saturday night. Mr. Shively was on his was home from a visit to the south and east and was taken suddenly ill while on board the train. He was removed from the train at Denver and taken to a hospital. Word was sent to his relatives here but he passed away before his son could reach that place.
Mr. Shively was 71 years of age. During the latter part of October last he left here on a trip to Louisiana where he has a daughter. Having spent considerable time with her he went to Illinois where he has two sisters and paid a visit to them, starting from there to Idaho Falls the middle of last week.
Mr. Shively has been a resident of the New Sweden district for the past ten years and the Shivelys are among the substantial farmers of that section.
Besides his wife, Mrs. Mary Shively, the deceased leaves five sons and three daughters. The sons are W. O., D. H. and Steven of New Sweden, J. E. of this city, and J. P. of Forest Hill, Calif.  The daughters are Mrs. C. B. Sleppy and Mrs. B. F. Moore of New Sweden and Mrs. M. J. Netzer of Iowa City, La.
W. O. Shively, who went to Denver upon word from his father's illness, is expected to return this evening with the body. Funeral arrangements have not been made at the present time, but it is understood that burial will take place some time tomorrow.

Shively (1845-1936) and Phrania "Franny" Foltz (1854-1931). Lewis married Mary Louisa Hoover in Kosciusko County, IN on 17-Aug-1902. Mary was born 19-Nov-1882 in Wakarusa, Elkhart County, IN and died 9-Jan-1948 in Clyde, Wayne County, NY. She was the daughter of Isaiah Hoover and Emaline Loucks.

Shively born Jan-1845 age 55 married 26 years, wife Fanny born Feb-1854 age 46 married 26 years 7 children born of whom 6 are living, son Ira C. born Apr-1877 age 23, son Lewis born May-1881 age 19, son Rufus O. born Oct 1883 age 16, son Curtis H. born Apr-1888 age 12, and daughter Clara E. born Sep-1892 age 7. Listed on the 1910 Colon Township, St. Joseph County, MI census is the household of Lewis Shively age 28 married 6 years, wife Mary age 27 married 6 years 1 child born and 1 child living, daughter Ocie age 7, and sister-in-law Martha Hoover age 18. Listed on the 1920 Constantine Township, St. Joseph County, MI census is the family of Louis Shively age 38, wife Mary age 37, daughter Ocie age 16 and hired man Luther Guthrie age 23. On the 1930 Cortland City, Cortland County, NY census is the household of Lewis Shively age 48, wife Mary age 47 and son Robert  age 7. Listed on the 1940 Clyde, Wayne County, NY census are the families of Alfred Hoy age 44, wife Ocie Fern age 37, daughter Winifred age 17, son Daniel age 15, daughter Eva age 9, father-in-law Louis Shively age 58 and mother-in-law Mary Shively age 57.

Lewis Shively
CLYDE, March 6 - Lewis Shively, 75, former resident of Clyde, died in Rochester early Tuesday (March 5, 1957) after a long illness. He was born in Bourbon, Ind., May 18, 1881, a son of John and Fanny Shively and has passed the last 15 years in this vicinity.
He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Alfrey E. Hoy of Clyde RD; two granddaughters, Mrs. Robert Barnes of Clyde RD and Miss Eva Hoy of Rochester; a grandson, Daniel Hoy of Newark; two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Kenneth E. Lundy Funeral Home at 48 Sodus St., Clyde, until tomorrow night when the body will be sent to Nappanee, Ind., where the funeral will be conducted Sunday afternoon. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery, Union Center, Ind.

Arthur Jacob Shively was born 20-May-1879 in Hastings, Barry County, MI and died 27-Sep-1962 in Los Angeles County, CA. He is buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, Los Angeles County, CA.  Arthur Jacob Shively was the son of Jacob Shively (born ca 1830, died 12-Aug-1914 in OR) and Julia Ann Bruss (born 16-Feb-1832, died 7-Jul-1903). Weinkauf who was born 4-Jun-1880 in Marathon County, WI and died 25-Jul-1979 in Los Angeles County, CA.  Martha was the daughter of Christian Albert Weinkauf and Therase Rose Lutiatia Lemke.

He was married to Miss Martha Weinkauf, a former Wausau resident, in California in 1915. She survives, together with two sons, Arthur J., Orville, Calif., and Farnum, Los Angeles, and four grandchildren.
Mrs. Shively has a sister and a brother, Mrs. Otto Grade and Robert Weinkauf, living here and another sister, Mrs. Louis Krause, at Antigo.
The funeral and burial in Forest Home Cemetery will be in Los Angeles Monday.

Christopher Weinkauf
Christopher Weinkauf, retired farmer of the town of Texas, passed away at home this morning at 1 o'clock after an illness of ten days. Funeral services are to be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the home and at 2 o'clock at St. Peter Lutheran church in the town of Wausau, the Rev. Paul Schroeder officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The deceased was born in Germany March 15, 1843, and came to Marathon county in 1872, settling in the town of Texas. He was married in that town November 12, 1875, to Theresa Lemke who passed away December 24, 1924. He is survived by six children, Herman and Robert Weinkauf of the town of Texas, Mrs. Arthur Shively of Los Angeles, Calif., Charles Weinkauf of Florence, Ariz., Mrs. Louis Krause of Antigo and Mrs. Otto Grade of the town of Texas; a sister, Mrs. Matthew Callon of Wausau, and sixteen grandchildren.

Funeral services for the late Mrs. Christ Weinkauf of the town of Texas will be conducted at 1:30 o'clock from the home and 2:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon at St. Peter's church in the town of Texas by the Rev. Paul Schroeder. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The deceased was united in marriage with Mr. Weinkauf in 1857. She had lived in the town of Texas continuously since three years of age. Surviving are six children: Herman Weinkauf and Mrs. Otto Grade of the town of Texas; Charles Weinkauf of Boise, Idaho; Robert Weinkauf of this city; Mrs. Arthur Shively of Los Angeles, and Mrs. Herman Krause of Antigo; two sisters, Mrs. Herman Schultz of the town of Texas, and Mrs. Albert Bretzke of Schofield; a brother, Albert Lemke of Merrill, and sixteen grand children.

A reunion of relatives and friends was held Sunday evening at the Riverview pavilion in the town of Texas, honoring Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Shively and sons, Arthur Jr. and Farnum, of Los Angeles, Cal., who are visiting at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Grade, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Weinkauf and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Weinkauf.  Mrs. Shively is the former Martha Weinkauf. The Shively's made the trip east by car and house-trailer. A pleasant evening was spent in dancing and refreshments were served. Guests present from out-of-town included Mr. and Mrs. Louis Krause and daughters Marion and Margaret, and Mr. and Mrs. Berndard Beiersdorf and son, Bruce, of Antigo, Mr. and Mrs. August Weinkauf and daughter and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Krahn and daughter of Edgar, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Fischer of Marathon and Mr. and Mrs. William Volkman of Schofield.
