This site was created by Larry Shively who is researching the history of the Shively families. The goal is to have a site where all Shively researchers can share and ask questions in regards to their Shively lines. The largest majority of the Shively family records are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. There are early records of Shively's also in Virginia and Kentucky. There are not many established Shively lineages back to Europe. There are documented lineages to Switzerland and Germany. Through the sharing of information from all of our research it is desired that all can learn about our Shively families.

Thomas A. Shively And Indiana Violet Richards Who Lived In Merrick County, Nebraska

Thomas A. Shively was born on 25-Mar-1848 and died on 25-Apr-1927 in Merrick County, NE.  He was the son of Alexander Valentine Shively (1820-1905) and Agnes Adams (1826-1872).  Alexander Shively was the son of Daniel Shively (1796-1884) and Mary "Sarah" Weaver (1794-1847). Daniel Shively (born 1796) was the son of Ulrich Shively (1774-1825) and Christina Shideler (1776-1838). For additional information on brothers of Thomas A. Thomas Shively was married on 12-Jul-1877 to Indiana Violet Richards. She was born on 11-Sep-1857 in Wabash County, IN and died 4-Aug-1921 in Douglas County, NE. She was the daughter of Amisiah Lafayette Richards (1834-1900) and Cansady Banister (1836-1905). 

Listed on the 1880 Mead Precinct, Merrick County, NE census are Thomas Shivley age 31, wife Indianna age 22 and son Charles M. age 1.  On the 1900 Mead Township, Merrick County, NE census is the family of Thomas Shively born Mar-1848 age 52, wife Indiana born Sep-1857 age 42 married 22 years and 7 children born and 7 living, son Charles born Jun-1878 age 21, son Willis L. born Oct-1880 age 19, daughter Arthelia born Jul-1882 age 17, daughter Lula, daughter Lucy L. born Apr-1891 age 9, son Lawrence born 1893 age 6 and son Thomas C. born Nov-1894 age 5. Located on the 1910 Mead Township, Merrick County, NE census is the household of Thomas Shively age 66, wife Indiana age 51, daughter Arthealia age 27, daughter Lucy age 18, son Lawrence age 16 and son Clare age 13. On the 1920 Mead Township, Merrick County, NE census are T. A. Shivley age 73, wife Indiana age 62 and son Klar age 23.

The following newspaper obituary was found in The Fullerton Post, Fullerton, Nebraska, Thursday, May 5, 1927, Page 1, Column 1:
Thomas A. Shively
Thomas A. Shively, oldest son of Valentine and Agnes Shively, was born in Indiana, March 26, 1848 and passed away at his home near Clarks, Nebr., April 25, 1927, age 79 years, 1 month. When a child he moved with his parents to Tama County, Iowa, where he remained until coming to Merrick County, Nebraska in 1872, where he spent the remaining years of his life, having lived on the home place over 50 yearss.
On July 12, 1877, he was married to Indiana V. Richards, to this union were born seven children: four sons and three daughters; Lafe of Sargent, Nebr., Lawrence of Fullerton, Nebr., Charley and Klar of Clarks, Nebr., Mrs. Vern Porter of Fullerton, Nebr., Mrs. Clarence Lawson, who passed away Aug. 24, 1906, and Mrs. C. A. Miller of Fullerton, Nebr. His wife preceeded him to the Great Beyond, Aug. 4, 1921.
The deceased was a member of Pierce Chapel, M. E. church, and was a honored and respected citizen, a kind husband and father.
He had been in the best of health until the morning of April 15, when he was stricken with a paraletic stroke from which he did not recover. He leaves to mourn his loss besides his immediate family, sixteen grand children and three great grand children, also three brothers and one sister, Levi Shively of Central City, Nebr., Henry of Tama City, Iowa, Willis O., of Washington and Mrs. Mary Hall of Tama City, Iowa. Also a host of friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were conducted at Pierce Chapel April 25, at 2:30 p.m., by Rev. W. T. Taylor of Inman, Nebr., former pastor of Pierce Chapel. Interement was made in the cemetery near the Chapel.

Not lost, but gone before.

The following was extracted from The Clarks Enterprise, Clarks, Nebraska, Friday, August 12, 1921, Page 1, Column 4:
Obituary
Indianna Violet Richard was born in Wabash County, Indiana, September 11, 1857, and died in the Methodist Hospital at Omaha, Nebraska August the 4, 1921 at the age of 63 years 10 months and 28 days.
She was the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Amaziah Richards.  She spent her girlhood days in Indiana and Iowa.  At the age of 15 she moved with her parents to Merrick County, Nebraska where lived the remainder of her life.
July 12, 1877 she was united in marriage to Thomas A. Shively, with whom she lived a little more than 44 years. To this union was born 7 children 6 of whom survive her. The second daughter Mrs. C. E. Lawson passed away August 24, 1906.
The deceased was a member of the Pierce Chapel M. E. Church and was a faithful and true Christian up to the time of her death. Some of her last words were that she was ready to meet her Master and Lord.
She has left to mourn her loss, her faithful husband, 2 daughters Mrs. Verne Porter, North Star, Nebraska, Mrs. C. A. Miller, Fullerton, Nebraska, 4 sons Charles and Klar of Clarks, Nebraska, W. L. Shively, Sargent, Nebraska and Lawrence, Fullerton Nebraska. She also leaves 2 brothers and 2 sisters, 11 grandchildren and a host of friends.
The funeral services were held at Pierce Chapel M. E. Church Saturday afternoon August 6 conducted by her pastor W. T. Taylor assisted by Rev. Kraemer of the Congregational church. Interment in the Pierce Chapel cemetery.
