This site was created by Larry Shively who is researching the history of the Shively families. The goal is to have a site where all Shively researchers can share and ask questions in regards to their Shively lines. The largest majority of the Shively family records are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. There are early records of Shively's also in Virginia and Kentucky. Shelton Shively And Shively Shelton Who Have Kentucky Ancestors

Shelton Shively was born on 11-October-1928 in Perry County, KY.  He was the son of John W. Shively and Mary  Flory.  John W. Shively was born on 9-June-1882 in Knox County, KY and died 14-February-1959 in London, Laurel County, KY.  John W. Shively was the son of Samuel J. Shively and Nancy Ellen Shelton.  Nancy Ellen Shelton was born 23-February-1873 in Barbourville, Knox County, KY and died on 27-March-1924 in Wyatt, Mississippi County, Missouri.  On the Missouri death certificate Nancy Ellen Shelton Shively the daughter of Joshua Faulkner and Margaret Shelton.   Margaret Shelton was the daughter of Madison Shelton and Elsie Holsie.

On the 1870 Knox County, KY census record Joshua Faulkner is listed as household number 7 and the family of Madison Shelton is listed as household Number 8.  On the 1880 Knox County, KY census Joshua Faulkner age 32 is listed in the household of his father, Thomas Faulkner, and Joshua is listed with wife Nancy age 22 and son Charles age 2 months.  On the 1880 Knox County, KY census is the household of Margarette Shelton age 37, daughter Nancy E. age 10 and Samuel T. age 3.  
The Kentucky death certificate for Tilden Shelton lists his date of birth as 18-February-1877 Knox County, KY and date of death as 19-November-1920.  His parents are listed as Josh Faulkner and Marguarit Shelton.  The informant for the information on the death certificate is listed as Shively Shelton.

Per the Kentucky death certificate Shively Shelton was the son of Tilden Shelton and Carrey West. The following newspaper obituary was extracted from the Mountain Advocate, Barbourville, Knox County, KY, Friday, June 30, 1922,  Page 1, Column 2:
SHELTON
Shivley Shelton, formerly of the Knox Grocery Co., died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. Shelton, at Swan Pond, on Wednesday morning from typhoid fever. Deceased was a worthy young man and his death will be deeply felt by a large number of friends and acquaintances.  The funeral was held Thursday at 10 a.m.


The following newspaper obituary for Joshua Tye Faulkner was extracted from the Mountain Advocate, Barbourville, Knox County, KY, Friday, July 14, 1916:
FAULKNER
Mr. Joshua Tye Faulkner was born in Knox county, Kentucky, on November, 10, 1847, near the place where he was buried last Monday.  He had a paralytic stroke on last Thursday, and on Saturday, July 7th, the summons came that called him to the beyond.  Mr. Faulkner was a good citizen, he was a man that attended to his own business, he was a member of the Methodist church and had been a member since he was a small boy.  He was on of the oldest members of Mountain Lodge No. 187, Free and Accepted Mason, having been ignited in the year of 1870.  His funeral was conducted last Sunday afternoon by Rev. Williams assisted by Rev. J. W. Ligon and the interment was Monday morning.
He leaves a wife and six children, four sons and two daughters, and two brothers.  He was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him which was evidenced by the large concourse of people who attended the funeral Sunday afternoon.  He leaves a host of friends and other relatives to mourn their loss.

Robert W Shively And Wife, Rosalie M Rice, From Taylor County, KY To Mississippi County, MO

Robert W Shively was born 8-Jan-1826 and died 18-Aug-1903 in Mississippi Co., MO.  Robert was the son of John B Shively and Sarah Heaverin.  Robert married Rosalie M Rice on 6-Feb-1848 in Green Co., KY.  Rosalie (Rosella) was born 11-Mar-1834 and died 18-Dec-1897 in Mississippi Co., MO.  She was the daughter of John Rice and Mary Ann Newton.  

Robert and Rosalie Shively are found on the 1850, 1860, and 1880 Taylor Co., KY census.  Robert is listed on the 1900 Mississippi Co., MO census.   It is believed they were living in Taylor Co., KY in 1870 but no census record for the family has been found.  From the Missouri death certificate for daughter, Margaret Shively Raffety Vowels her birthplace  in approximately 1871 was Spurlington, Taylor Co., KY.  From the Missouri death certificate for daughter, Rosa Shively her birthplace on 17-Feb-1872 was Taylor Co., KY.   

It is believed that Robert W and Rosalie M Shively were the parents of at least the following children:  1) Thomas Ann (a female) born 23-Mar-1849  2) John Anderson born 27-Apr-1851 died 15-Jul-1901 married 1st Mrs. Frances Chambers and married 2nd Martha Ann Wyatt  3) Thrisie Jane born 1854   4) Sarah (Emma) Magdalene born 4-Jul-1856 died 10-Apr-1936 married Richard D. Wise  5) Mary V born 1-Nov-1858  6) David R born 1861  7) Samuel Joseph born 30-Jan-1866 and died 27-Jan-1951 in London, Laurel Co., KY married 1st to Nancy Ellen Shelton and married second to Marinda Lawson Meredith Taylor  8)Margaret Ann born 11-Oct-1870 died 27-Apr-1929 married 1st to Thomas Raffety and 2nd to George H Vowels  9) Rosialli (Rosa) born 19-Feb-1872 and died 29-Apr-1936 in Wyatt, Mississippi Co., MO and 10) Henry Rice born 18-Mar-1874 from family history in Kansas and died 11-Nov-1958 Shelby Co., MO married to Thresey Margaret Thompson on 4-Apr-1899 in Shelby Co., MO.

Land deeds in Taylor County, KY indicate that Robert W and Rosalie Shively had sold their land holdings in KY 1868.  In Taylor County, KY Deed Book 10, Page 287 dated February 1879 John Rice of the first part and R W Shively and Rosallie Shively, his wife, of the second part all of Taylor County are given 200 acres for the "natural love and affection John Rice has for the parties of the second part".  From the Missouri death records for daughters born about 1871 and 1872 it is believed that they were in KY.  From the Missouri death record for son Henry Rice Shively his birthplace in 1874 is listed as Kansas.


Robert W. Shively and wife, Rosalie M., are buried in Calvary Cemetery, Charleston, Mississippi Co., MO.

Help is requested in locating the family of Robert and Rosalie Shively in 1870.  It is believed they were in the area of Spurlington, Taylor Co., KY but the census record has not been located.  

There are many good original documents for the family of Robert W and Rosalie M Shively.  Above is the Kentucky death certificate for son, Samuel Joseph Shively.

Isaac Shively And Wife, Elmira A. Fitzwater, Who Lived In Mercer County, Ohio And Wexford County, Michigan

Isaac Shively was born on 22-August-1847  in Darke County, OH and died 12-May-1920 in Wexford County, MI.  He was the son of David Miller Shively (1803-1883) and Esther Angle (1814-1888).  Isaac was married in Mercer County, OH to Elmira A. Fitzwater on 22-March-1874. Elmira A. Fitzwater was born 20-November-1850 and died 3-December-1913 in Wexford County, MI.  She was the daughter of Phillip Fitzwater and Adeline Hanley.

The family of Isaac Shively and Elmira Fitzwater are found on the 1900 Butler Township, Mercer County, OH census.  Listed in the household are Isaac Shively age 52 born August 1847, wife Almira age 47 born November 1850, daughter Nellie age 20 born December 1879, son William age 18 born December 1881, son Amer age 16 born August 1883, son Joseph age 15 born March 1885, son Walter age 12 born July 1887, son Daniel age 8 born October 1891, and son Royl age 7 born April 1893.  The family is found on the 1910 Butler Township, Mercer County, OH census.  In the household are Isaac Shively age 63, wife Elmira A age 59, daughter Nellie age 30, son William H age 28, son David C age 18, son Royal C age 17, son Joseph E age 24, mother in law Adeline Fitzwater age 86.  


The newspaper obituary for Joseph E. Shively was located in The Piqua Daily, Piqua, OH, Monday, August 10, 1970, Page 10, Columns 1-2:
Joseph E. Shively, Retired Hobart Mfg. Foreman, Dies
Joseph Earl Shively, 85, of 418 S. Wayne, died at 4:15 a.m. in Piqua Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient two days after having been in failing health several years.
Born in Mercer County, March 13, 1885, he was a son of Isaac and Elmira Fitzwater Shively.  He was married to the former Maude Baker on June 5, 1907 in Spencerville.  They moved from Spencerville to Piqua in 1924.
Mr. Shively was a retired foreman at Hobart Manufacturing Co. and a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Maude, a daughter, Mrs. Arthur Grunert (Vonda) of Piqua; two sons, Ashley B. Shively and Paul L. both of Piqua; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and five brothers, Roy Shively of Manton, Mich., George of Fife Lake, Mich., Ray of Modesto, Calif., Carl of Bakersfield, Calif., and Hamer of Eugene, Oregon.
He was preceeded in death by three brothers and a sister.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Carl Hahn at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Cron Funeral Home with burial in Miami Memorial Park.
Friends my call Tuesday at the funeral home between 3 and 5 p.m. and 7 and 9 p.m.
