This site was created by Larry Shively who is researching the history of the Shively families. The goal is to have a site where all Shively researchers can share and ask questions in regards to their Shively lines. The largest majority of the Shively family records are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. There are early records of Shively's also in Virginia and Kentucky. There are not many established Shively lineages back to Europe. There are documented lineages to Switzerland and Germany. Through the sharing of information from all of our research it is desired that all can learn about our Shively families.

James C. Shively And Susannah (Susan) Williamson From Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania

James C. Shively and wife, Susannah "Susan" Williamson, can be located in the records of Huntingdon County, PA.  James Shively was born 3-Feb-1815 and died 27-Oct-1890.  Susannah "Susan" Williamson was born 6-May-1824 and died 22-Sep-1922.  Both are buried in the Alexandria Methodist Cemetery, Alexandria, Huntingdon County, PA.

James and Susannah Shively are located on the 1860 West Township, Huntingdon County, PA census.  In the household are James C. Shively age 45, wife Susannah age 36, son Samuel W age 12, daughter Elizabeth C age 10, daughter Susannah M age 9, son Henry J age 7, son Millard R age 5, son Lemuel C age 4, and daughter Sarah Jane age 4 months. At least two more sons are known that were born after 1860.  They are son John H born 1867 and son Russel born 1865

Death of James Shively
Died on Friday evening, October 27, 1893, at 7 o'clock, James Shively died at his late residence in Tipton, Pa., of paralysis, aged 78 years, 8 months and 24 days. The deceased had been ailing for several months past.  He was born at Alexandria, Huntingdon county.  For a number of years he was a progressive farmer in the Shavers Creek valley, but for the past four years has resided at Tipton.  Deceased was married on April 27, 1847, to Susana Williamson.  He was a devoted member of the German Performed church of Alexandria for the past forty-four years and died in triumph and firm to the last.  His remains were taken to Alexandria on Sunday morning, where services were held in the Reformed church, and where a large number of relatives and old acquaintances gathered to pay their last tribute of esteem to an old and respected citizen.  Interment was made in the Union cemetery at 10:30, Rev. C. U. Hillman officiating.  An aged widow, four girls and six boys, mourn the loss of a devoted husband and father.

The newspaper obituary for Susannah Williamson Shively was extracted from The Altoona Tribune, Saturday, September 23, 1899, Page 8, Column 3:
Mrs. Susan W. Shively, residing about a mile east of Bellwood, died at her home at 6 o'clock yesterday evening, aged 75 years and 5 months.  She is survived by six sons and four daughters.  The body will be taken to Alexandria on the 7:30 a.m. train Sunday morning and there interred beside that of the husband, who died six years ago.
