This site was created by Larry Shively who is researching the history of the Shively families. The goal is to have a site where all Shively researchers can share and ask questions in regards to their Shively lines. The largest majority of the Shively family records are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. There are early records of Shively's also in Virginia and Kentucky. There are not many established Shively lineages back to Europe. There are documented lineages to Switzerland and Germany. Through the sharing of information from all of our research it is desired that all can learn about our Shively families.

The following obituary was extracted from The Benton Review, Fowler, Indiana, Thursday, March 16, 1916, Page 9, Column 3:
George W. Allen
Mr. George W. Allen was born in Swayzee, Grant county, Indiana, March 19, 1860, and died March 11, 1916, having attained an age of 55 years, 11 months, and 23 days.  He had lived in Earl Park for sixteen years and had been a member of the Presbyterian church since March 2, 1913.  On October 20, 1888 he was married to Miss Louella Shively at Swayzee. He is survived by his wife and seven children, Mr. Otto Allen, Mrs. Mabel Cobleigh, Messrs. Forest and Harold Allen, Miss Florence Allen, Everett and Dorothy, and by one sister, Mrs. Sade Smith, and five brothers, John, Israel, Wesley, Ephriam and A. J. Allen.
He had been a charter member of the Knights of Pythias for 20 years. Although robust nearly all of his life he suffered much for some months preceding his death. On Tuesday, March 7, he became critically ill with appendicitis and although medical skill was employed the effort to prolong life failed.
He was a devoted husband and father. Wherever he was employed he did his work faithfully and well.  Ever ready was he to do his share and more. He was a man whose loss will be much felt not only by his immediate family but also by the many friends he made. There is one friend however, who loved him more than any other. He has called him home to be forever with Him.
Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock, conducted by Mr. William F. Hoot.
