This site was created by Larry Shively who is researching the history of the Shively families. The goal is to have a site where all Shively researchers can share and ask questions in regards to their Shively lines. The largest majority of the Shively family records are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. There are early records of Shively's also in Virginia and Kentucky. There are not many established Shively lineages back to Europe. There are documented lineages to Switzerland and Germany. Through the sharing of information from all of our research it is desired that all can learn about our Shively families.

Christopher Augustus Shively And Wife Grace Minnie McKinstry Who Lived In Mason County, Michigan

Christopher Augustus Shively was born on 16-Oct-1857 and died 8-Sep-1924 in Lake County, MI. He was the son of Jacob Shively and Johannah Menniger. (For additional information on Jacob and Johannah Shively see the 11-Jul-2014 Shively blog article).  Christopher Shively married Grace Minnie McKinstry who was born 14-Jan-1867 and died 17-Feb-1911. She was the daughter of John  and Matilda McKinstry.  Chris and Grace Shively are buried in Riverside Cemetery, Custer, Mason County, MI.  

Located on the 1900 Ludington City, Mason County, MI census is the household of Christoffer Shively born Oct-1856, married 19 years, wife Minnie born Jan-1867 having borne 4 children and all 4 living, son John born May-1884, daughter Etta born June-1889 and daughter Hazel born Oct-1891. Listed on the 1910 Saginaw County, MI census is the household of Christopher A. Shively age 52, wife Minnie age 43, son William W. age 27, daughter Hazel age 17 and daughter-in-law Cleva age 26.

Additional information found on the children of Christopher and Grace Shively:  John Shively born 19-May-1884 died 9-Apr-1952 and married 15-Oct-1908 to Bessie Cummings; Etta Shively married William Brunke; William Walter Shively born 21-Mar-1883 died 25-Apr-1967 and married to Ada Cleva Pike; and Hazel Beatrice Shively born 10-Oct-1892 died 3-Oct-1946 and married 27-Apr-1914 to Charles B. Green.

Located in the Ludington Record-Appeal, February 23, 1911 is the following:
Walter Shivelly received word from Saginaw, Friday noon of the death of his mother, Mrs. Chris. Shively, who was sick but a short time, death was caused from neuralgia of the heart. Mrs. Shively was a resident of this place for many years until a couple of years ago she moved to Saginaw where Mr. Shively had work on the railroad. Her body was brought here Monday evening and to her hold home now occupied by Tom Kyle. The funeral was held from the Congregational church Tuesday afternoon the services being conducted by Rev. F. M. Woodmansee and interment was made in Custer cemetery.
Besides her husband she leaves her father John McKinstry and sister, Mrs. John Macey fo this place and two sons, Walter of this place and John of Hudson, Wis. and two daugthers, Mrs. Wm Brunke of Fountain and Miss Hazel Shively of Saginaw. All were here for the funeral except her father who was unable to attend. Those who attended from out of town were Verne Haviland, wife and son, Kenneth, Mrs. Minnnie Reader, Carrie Shively and brother Jesse, Fred Smith and family all of Ludington and Mervin Curtiss of South Bend, Indiana and Wm. Brunk of Fountain.
