This site was created by Larry Shively who is researching the history of the Shively families. The goal is to have a site where all Shively researchers can share and ask questions in regards to their Shively lines. The largest majority of the Shively family records are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. There are early records of Shively's also in Virginia and Kentucky. There are not many established Shively lineages back to Europe. There are documented lineages to Switzerland and Germany. Through the sharing of information from all of our research it is desired that all can learn about our Shively families.

Norman (Norborn) T. Sigmon (Sigman) And Wife Sarah "Sallie" Shively Who Lived In Franklin County, Virginia

The Shively families doing research on Daniel and Catharine Shively in Franklin County, Virginia are looking for any information on daughter, Sarah Shively. Documentation that lists the maiden name of Sarah's mother, Catharine, is desired. 
What is known is that Sarah Shively married Norborn T. Sigmon in Franklin County, Virginia on 19-Jul-1855.  Norborn was the son of Joseph Sigmon and Elizabeth Willis.  In the records the first name Norborn is also listed as Norman and the surname Sigmon is enterchanged with Sigman.

Catherine Shively is listed on the 1880 Long Branch District, Franklin County, VA census as mother in law, Catharine, age 82 in the household of Norman Sigmon age 48, wife Sally age 46, daughter Catharine age 21, daughter Julia age 19, daughter Sarah age 17, son Robert age 14, son Walker age 12, son John age 10, son Joseph age 8 and son George age 2.  

From the VA death certificate Norborn Toliver Sigmon was born 14-June-1831 in Franklin County and died 28-January-1916 in Franklin County.  He was the son of Joseph Sigmon and Elizabeth Willis.  From records Sarah Shively Sigmon was born 7-June-1833 and died 29-July-1908. If any one would have copies of the death obituaries from the Danville (VA) Bee the reasearchers would appreciate a copy. Norman T. Sigman served on the side of the Confederate Army in Company G, 37 Battalion, Virginia Cavalry and in 1901 did apply for a war pension.

Wade; Catherine (Catharine) Sigmon born 2-Sep-1858 died 23-May-1936  married Joseph H. Blalock; Julia A. Sigmon married Lee Willis on 22-Dec-1892 in Franklin County; Sarah Frances Sigmon died 2-Feb-1941 in Roanoke County, VA married 23-Feb-1888 in Franklin County to James R. Willis; Robert Sigmon married 24-Apr-1894 in Franklin County to Minnie C. Slone; Walker C. Sigmon born 29-Dec-1868 died 16-Apr-1949 in Caswell County, NC married 7-Jan-1892 Elizabeth A. Ferguson; John T. Sigmon died 3-Jan-1946 in Caswell County, NC; Joseph Peter Sigmon born 16-Dec-1874 died 22-Apr-1947 in Franklin County, VA married 24-Sep-1896 in Franklin County to Mary C. Ferguson; and George E. Sigmon born  15-Sep-1877 died 9-Sep-1895.
