He was married on 14-Feb-1877 at Waddams Grove, Stephenson County, IL to Erilla C. Howard. Errilla was born 13-Apr-1858 near Lena, Stephenson County, IL and died 19-Apr-1945 at Vernon, Yuma County, CO. William Shively was the son of Jacob Shively (born 11-Aug-1807 died 28-Dec-1879 in Stephenson County, IL) and Sarah Devore (1813-1894). Jacob Shively was the son of John Shively (1776-1862) and Elizabeth Dersham (1783-1852).
Listed on the 1900 Glendale Precinct No. 7 Eastern District, Arapahoe County, CO census is the family of William Shively born Sep-1849 age 50, wife Errilla born Apr-1858 age 42, son Arthur L. born Oct-1882 age 17, son Frank L born Apr-1886 age 14 and son Arlie A born Feb-1888 age 12.

Vernon Pioneer Called By Death
William Shively, aged pioneer settler of the Vernon community died at his home in Vernon last Saturday. Funeral services were held from the Methodist church at Vernon by the Rev. Cope of the Adventist church of Ft. Morgan assisted by E. E. Pennington and Rev. Burdick of Vernon. Music was furnished by Mrs. Mattie Bensel and Rev. and Mrs. Cope. Internment was made at Glendale cemetery.
William Shively was born September 22, 1849 near Hartleton, Union County, Pennsylvania and died at Vernon, Colo., Nov. 2, 1929. When fourteen years of age he moved with his parents to Illinois where he grew to manhood. He was united in marirage to Errila C. Howard February 14, 1877 at Waddams Grove, Il. To this union was born four sons, Floyd Afton, Arthur Linton, Frank LeRoy, and Arlie Avery. In 1885 the family moved to South Dakota where they lived three years. From there they moved to Nebraska and in 1889 they moved to the homestead southwest of Vernon. In 1910 Mr. and Mrs. Shively moved to the present home in Vernon. Mr. Shively was baptized in the Lutheran church when a child. He was a kind and loving father and husband, and bore the afflictions of his later years with patience and fortitude. As one of the pioneers of Eastern Colorado, he will long be remembered by a host of friends. Beside a multitude of friends and neighbors, he leaves to mourn his death his wife and four sons, and thirteen grandchildren -- Mrs. Ella Duckworth, Everett, and Ruth Shively, Mrs. Julia Fix, Charley Harley, and Dean Shively, Albert and Virgil Shively, Mrs Opal Dickson, Bruce, Leota, and Arlene Shively, and two step-grandchildren, Mrs. Myrtle Crider, and Charles Sarnowski. Also six great-grandchildren, Dorothy May Duckworth, George Arthur and Beverly B. Fix, Viola May Shively, Loren Wayne Dickson and Iris Jean Crider.

Mrs. Erilla Shively Dies Thursday, Apr. 19 At Age Of 87 Years
Mrs. Erilla Shively, pioneer mother of the Vernon community, died Thursday of last week at the Wray hospital where she had been taken a few days previously after her condition became critical. Funeral services, conducted by Pastor E. R. Lauda of Loveland, were held at the Lockwood Mortuary Saturday afternoon and burial was in Glendale cemetery at Vernon.
Erilla C. Howard was born April 13, 1858, near Lena, Illinois, and attained the age of 87 years and six days when death claimed here after a useful and exemplary life of service to her family and friends. She was married to William Shively at Waddams Grove, Illinois, on February 14, 1877.
Four sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Shively, all of whom survive. They are Floyd, Arthur and Arley of Vernon and Frank of Wray.
In 1885 the Shively family moved to South Dakota and lived there for three years, then moved to York, Nebraska, and from there to the homestead southwest of Vernon. Later they moved into Vernon. Mr. Shively died on November 2, 1929, and Mrs. Shively has since been cared for by here devoted sons. For the past three years she has made her home in Wray.
She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church and during her many years was a faithful member with a strong faith in God and the church of her choice.
Besides her sons, she is survived by thirteen grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and a host of friends.
