This site was created by Larry Shively who is researching the history of the Shively families. The goal is to have a site where all Shively researchers can share and ask questions in regards to their Shively lines. The largest majority of the Shively family records are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. There are early records of Shively's also in Virginia and Kentucky. There are not many established Shively lineages back to Europe. There are documented lineages to Switzerland and Germany. Through the sharing of information from all of our research it is desired that all can learn about our Shively families.

Jesse Lawrence Shively And Wife, Alice Estelle Pfefferle, Who Lived In San Mateo County, California

Jesse Lawrence Shively was born 29-Dec-1876 in Sedgwick County, KS and died 19-Aug-1955 in San Mateo County, CA.  Jesse was the son of Isaac Henry and Anna Hannah Shively. (For more information on his lineage see the Shively blog articles written on Sunday, December 30, 2012 and Saturday, February 12, 2011). Jesse Shively married Alice Estelle Pfefferle on 9-May-1914 in Alameda County, CA. Alice was born on 13-Apr-1885 in CA and died 5-Mar-1957 in San Mateo County, CA. She was the daughter of Louis Pfefferle and Mary E. Brady.  

Listed on the 1880 Sherman, Sedgwick County, KS census is the family of I. H. Shively age 27, wife Hannah age 25 and son Jessie age 3.  On the 1900 Washington Township, Buchanan County, MO census Jesse Shively born Dec-1876 age 23 is living in the houshold of William H. Leach born Oct-1842, age  57.  Listed on the 1920 San Mateo City, San Mateo County, CA is the household of Jesse L. Shively age 43, Wife Alice E. age 34, daughter Marjorie age 4 and daughter Evelyn age 2.  Listed on the 1930 San Mateo City, San Mateo County, CA census is the family of Jesse L. age 53, wife Alice  age 43, daughter Marjory age 14, daughter Evelyn age 12, daughter Shirley age 5 and son Robert age 5.  Listed on the 1940 San Mateo City, San Mateo County, CA census is Jesse L. Shively age 63, wife Alice E. age 46, daughter Marjorie age 22, daughter Evelyn age 21, son Robert age 15 and daughter Shirley age 15.

Jesse L. Shively, 78, engineering executive of the Cyclops Iron Works company, and one of the West Coast's foremost authorities on ammonia refrigeration, died early today at Franklin hospital, San Francisco.
A native of Wichita, Kans., Shively had resided in San Mateo for more than 40 years. His latest address was 727 San Mateo drive.
A charter member of the National Association of Practical Refrigeration Engineers, Shively was know in the trade as "Mr. Refrigeration". It  is estimated that he had supervised and designed installation of 95 per cent of the refrigerators in California wineries.
He is survived by his widow, Alice E. Shively of San Mateo, and three daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Titelbaum, Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Evelyn Gough, Burlingame, and Mrs. Shirley Coughlin, Belmont, and a son, Capt. Robert J. Shively, Tokyo, Japan.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. from the Crosby-N. Gray mortuary chapel, Burlingame, under auspices of San Mateo lodge 226, F. & A.M.

SEBASTOPOL -- Graveside services were held in Sebastopol Cemetery for Mrs. Alice Shively, 71, who died Tuesday following an operation in a bay area hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Louis Pfefferle, pioneer residents of the Freestone section, and wife of the late Jess L. Shively, a refrigeration engineer.
Mrs. Shively has lived in San Mateo and Berkeley for many years, and is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Shirley Coughlin, Belmont; Mrs. Evelyn Gough, Ohio; Mrs. Marie Teitelbaum, Baltimore; her son, Capt. Robert Shively, US Army, Chicago; a sister, Mrs. George A. Williams, and a niece, Mrs. Vincent Gleason, both of Santa Rosa.
