This site was created by Larry Shively who is researching the history of the Shively families. The goal is to have a site where all Shively researchers can share and ask questions in regards to their Shively lines. The largest majority of the Shively family records are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. There are early records of Shively's also in Virginia and Kentucky. There are not many established Shively lineages back to Europe. There are documented lineages to Switzerland and Germany. Mary Margaret Shively, Daughter Of George Shively And Nancy Vanderford, From Vinton County, Ohio To Missouri

Mary Margaret Shively was  born on 18-Apr-1858 in Ohio and died 27-Dec-1930 in Vernon County, MO.  She was the daughter of George Shively (1820-1858)  and Nancy Vanderford (15-Aug-1832 to 3-Nov-1867). After the death of her parents Mary Margaret Shively lived in the household of her grandfather, William Vanderford, and his second wife Julia A. Belvington. (Williams first wife and mother of Nancy Vanderford was Mary Margaret McGee).  Mary Margaret Shively was married in Vinton County, OH on 11-Feb-1885  (Vinton County, OH Marriage Book Volume 4, Page 368) to Charles F. Johnson. Charles F. Johnson was born Mar-1864 and died 26-Nov-1912. Charles and Mary Johnson are buried in the El Dorado Springs Cemetery in El Dorado, Cedar County, MO. Charles F. Johnson and Mary Margaret Shively were the parents of at least two children: Cora Althea Johnson and George Fenton Johnson.

Listed on the 1850 Jackson Township, Vinton County, OH census is Georg Shively age 29, wife Nancy age 17 and daughter Sarah J. age 5 months. Located on the 1860 Jackson Township, Vinton County, OH census is the household of Nancy Shively age 28, daughter Sarah J. age 10, son William age 9, son Henry age 7, son Westley age 4 and daughter Mary M. age 2.  Listed on the 1870 Jackson Township, Vinton County, OH census is the family of William Vanderford age 59, wife Julia age 43, grandchild William Shively age 19 and grandchild Mary M. Shively age 12.  On the 1880 Jackson Township, Vinton County, OH census is Wm. Vanderford age 69, wife Julia A. age 52, grandson James M. age 10 and granddaughter Mary M. Shively age 22.  On the 1900 Elkhart Township, Bates County, MO census is the family of Charles F. Johnson born Mar-1854 age 46, wife Mary M. born Apr-1858 age 42 married 16 years having born 2 children with 2 children living, daughter Cora A. born Jul-1886 age 13 and son George F. born Jul-1890 age 9.  On the 1910 West Spedwell Township, St. Clair County, MO census are Charles F. Johnson age 56, wife Mary M. age 52 and son George F. age 19.

Death Of Mary M. Johnson
Mary Margaret Shively was born April 18, 1858, in Ohio, and departed this life at Nevada, Mo., Dec. 27, 1930, aged 72 years. She was married to Charles F. Johnson, Feb. 11, 1885, who preceded her in death 18 years ago. To this union were born two children, a daughter, Mrs. Cora Harris of Nevada, and a son, George F. Johnson, who preceded her in death three years ago. Early in life Mrs. Johnson became a Christian and united with the Baptist church. She was a devoted Christian and was loved by all who knew her. She was ever faithful to her church and attended services as long as health permitted.
She leaves to mourn her loss one daughter and a grandson, Oren Harris, and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock in the Baptist church at El Dorado Springs, Rev. L. L. Tucker of Stockton conducting the service. Burial was in the El Dorado cemetery beside her husband.
