Austin Elmer Shively was born 14-Sep-1873 in Fulton County, IN and died 2-Apr-1949 in Fulton County, IN.  He was the son of William Shively and Mary Ellen Heeter.  William Shively and Roselia Shively, father and sister of Elmer Shively, were the subjects of the March 15, 2013 blog.  Elmer Shively was married to Rosa May Moore on 19-Dec-1896 in Fulton County.  Elmer and Rosa were the parents of the following children:  Devon (1898-1972), Lester (1902-1942), Raymond (1903-1966) and Mary born 1913.  Elmer and Rosa are listed on the 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 Henry Township, Fulton Co., IN census records. Elmer is listed in the household of his son, Devon, on the 1940 Henry Township, Fulton County census record.

Mrs. Elmer Shively Summoned By Death

Rochester, Ind., Dec 5 -- Mrs. Elmer Shively, 61, well known resident of the Athens community, died Sunday night at the home of her son, Lester Shively of Mishawaka.  Death followed a long illness.  Mrs. Shively had been in the home of her son for the past five months.

Mrs. Shively was born June 1, 1877, in Fulton county, daughter of Lafayette and Hannah Moore.  She spent her entire life in Fulton county.

Surviving are:  husband, Elmer Shively; three son, Devon Shively of Rochester and Lester and Raymond Shively of Mishawaka; one daughter, Mrs. Inez Walker, Mishawaka.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from Athens Church of God with Rev. Daniel Slaybaugh in charge.  Interment will be made in Mr. Hope cemetery in Athens.

Hold Rites Today For Fulton Farmer

Rochester, Ind. -- Funeral rites for Austin Elmer SHively, 75, will be conducted at the Foster funeral home at 2 p.m. Monday by the Rev. Daniel Slaybaugh,  Akron.  Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery at Athens.

Mr. Shively, a farmer of Newcastle township, died early Saturday morning at Woodlawn hospital after a four weeks' illness.

A lifelong resident of Fulton county, he was born September 14, 1873, the son of William and Mary Ellen Shively.  On December 19, 1896, he was married to Rosie May Moore who preceded him in death.

Surviving are two sons, Raymond, Mishawaka; and Devon, Rochester; one daughter, Mrs. Harry Miller, Akron; four brothers, Noah, Martin, and Charles, all of Rochester; and Everett, Akron; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Bryant and Mrs. Ola Shively, Akron; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  Another son and daughter are dead.

Roselia Shively, Wife Of Frank Wines, Daughter Of William And Mary E. Heeter Shively From Fulton County, Indiana

Roselia Shively was born on 12-Aug-1875 in Kosciusko County, IN.  She was the daughter of William Shively (1844-1919) and Mary E. Heeter (1855-1932). Roselia married Frank E. Wines on 20-Dec-1894.  The newspaper obituary for Roselia Shively Wines was extracted from the Rochester Republican, Rochester, Fulton County, IN, Thursday, December 5, 1907, Page 1, Column 6:

Roselia, eldest daughter of William and Mary E. Shively, was born in Kosciusko county, Ind., Aug. 12, 1875, died at Jamestown, N.D., Nov. 21, 1907, aged 32 years, 3 months and 9 days.  She united with the Brethren church Feb. 14, 1892, and lived a consistent christian life until death.  She expressed her desire to go and meet her little ones.  She was united in marriage to Frank E. Wines, Dec. 20, 1894.  To this union were born four children, two sons and two daughters; the two sons preceeded her in death.  She leaves to mourn her loss a kind husband and the little girls, a father, mother, grandmother, six brothers and two sisters, with other relatives and a host of friends.

Rosa was a kind, loving mother, an affectionate wife and loving daughter.

The marriage of Roselia Shively and Frank Wines was recorded in the Rochester Sentinel, Friday, December 28, 1894, Page 5, Column 3:

Mr. Frank Wines of this county, and Miss Rosa Shively, of Kosciusko Co., were quietly married in the presence of several friends, at the residence of Rev. A. S. Fisher on the 20th inst.

"Rozetta" Shively is located on the 1880 Kosciusko County, IN, Franklin Township census in the household of her parents, William and Mary E Shively.  She is located on the 1900 Fulton County, IN, Henry Township, census.  In the household are husband Frank E Wines age 29, wife Rosetta age 24, and daughter Retha M age 2.

The obituary for Roselia Shively's father, William Shively, was located in the Rochester, Fulton County, IN newspapers.  Extracted from the Rochester Weekly Republican, Thursday Morning, January 30, 1919, Page 6, Column 3 is the following:

Obituary

William Shively, son of Levi and Elizabeth Shively, was born in Union county, Pa., Dec. 3, 1844,  and departed this life Jan. 14, 1919, aged 74 years, 1 month and 11 days.

At an early age he, with his parents, came to Indiana where they spent the remainder of their lives.

On Dec. 14, 1871, he was united in marriage with Mary Ellen Heeter.  In the following year, he, with his wife, joined the Dunkard church, and later united with the Progressives.

The family consisted of ten children.  One died in infancy, another, Mrs. Roselia Wines, departed this life while residing in North Dakota, ten years ago.

There are left to mourn his departure the wife and eight children, Edgar and Charles, of North Dakota; George, of Montana; Martin, of Michigan; Mrs. Ira Bryant, Everet, Noah and Viola, of this county.

There are eighteen grandchildren, two sisters and one brother.  Two sisters and one brother have preceeded him.  He was a solider of the Civil war.  He enlisted for one hundred days in the 138 regiment, Co. E., and was discharged.  He then re-enlisted and served in the 155th regiment, Co. A, where he served until the close of the war and received an honorable discharge.  At the time of his death he was a member of McClung Post, G.A.R.

Mr. Shively was a man well known in this community and endeared himself to a host of friends.  His chair is vacant, but there remains the memory of the many happy years spent in the company of a kind, loving companion, father and friend.
