This site was created by Larry Shively who is researching the history of the Shively families. The goal is to have a site where all Shively researchers can share and ask questions in regards to their Shively lines. The largest majority of the Shively family records are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. There are early records of Shively's also in Virginia and Kentucky. There are not many established Shively lineages back to Europe. There are documented lineages to Switzerland and Germany. Through the sharing of information from all of our research it is desired that all can learn about our Shively families.

Edward W. Shively And Wife, Burton Mayo, Who Lived In Jackson County, Missouri

Several articles were located in The Kansas City Star, Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri regarding Edward W. Shively.  From The Kansas City Star, Sunday, January 21, 1900, Page 2, Column 3:
Death of Edward Shively at Galveston
Edward Shively of Kansas City died at Galveston, Tex., last Friday morning, where he had recently gone in search of his health.  Mr. Shively was for several years connected with the baggage department at the Union depot.  He was a member of Victory lodge 308, Knights of Pythias.  He leaves a wife, formerly Miss Burton Mayo.  The body will arrive in Kansas City Monday morning over the Missouri, Kansas & Texas railroad.  Burial will be from the family home, 531 Forest avenue.

The following article was extracted from The Kansas City Star, Saturday, January 20, 1900, Page 10, Column 1:
Edward Shively Dies at Galveston
Edward Shively, checkman at the Union depot, died yesterday at Galveston, Tex.  Superintendent Updegraff went to Fort Worth to-day to meet the remains.  Shively was married last September.

The final newspaper article was located in The Kansas City Star, Sunday, January 21, 1900, Page 19, Column 5:
SHIVELY, Edw. W., aged 25 years, at Galveston, Tex., Friday, January 19.  Remains will be brought to Kansas City for burial.  Funeral notice later.

The marriage license for Edward W. Shively and Burton Mayo was located in the Missouri records.  Their marriage was recorded in the Jackson County, Missouri records. They were married on 6-September-1899.   Burton Mayo was the daughter of Charles Lewis Mayo and Josephine McReynolds.

Burton M. Shively is listed on the 1900 Jackson County, Missouri, Kansas City, 14th ward census record.  She is living in the household of Allen Travis and recorded as a sister-in-law. Her sister, Nellie A Travis, is listed as the wife of Allen Travis.

Burton Shively married second Paul Augustus Kirchmaier on 21-April-1906.  Their marriage is recorded in Leavenworth County, Kansas Marriage Book M, Page 360.  

Burton M. Kirchmaier is located on the 1910 Jackson County, Missouri census, the 1920 San Diego County, California census and the 1930 Contra Costa County, California census.  From the California death records it is recorded that Burton Kirchmaier was born 1-Sep-1875 and died 18-Jul-1943 in Alameda County, California.  Paul Augustus Kirchmaier was born 15-Apr-1880 and died 12-Apr-1955 in Alameda County, California.

Edward Shively was the son of Andrew Jacob Shively (1841-1876) and Anna Swearingen.  The family is located on the 1875 Kansas State census records in Miami County.  Listed in the household are A. J. Shiveley age 32, wife Anna age 27, daughter Minnie age 7, daughter Gertrude, and son Edward age 1.   Andrew Jacob Shively was the son of Henry Shively (1820-1895) and Mary H. Kinkaid (1820-1863).  Henry Shively was the son of Jacob Banta Shively and Anna Mavity.
