This site was created by Larry Shively who is researching the history of the Shively families. The goal is to have a site where all Shively researchers can share and ask questions in regards to their Shively lines. The largest majority of the Shively family records are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. There are early records of Shively's also in Virginia and Kentucky. There are not many established Shively lineages back to Europe. There are documented lineages to Switzerland and Germany. Through the sharing of information from all of our research it is desired that all can learn about our Shively families.

Martin Shively And Wife, Barbary Weimer, In Stark County, Ohio

Martin Shively, born 8-May-1812 and died 23-June-1895 in Stark County, Ohio was the son of Daniel Shively and Mary Magdalena Hauser.  Martin married Barbary Weimer in Carroll County, Ohio on 24-February-1842.  Barbary (Barbara) was born 16-Mar-1823 and died 20-May-1869.  Martin and Barbara Shively are buried in Liberty Cemetery, Paris Township, Stark County, Ohio.

The newspaper obituary for Matin Shively was located in The Evening Respository, Canton, Ohio, Monday, June 24, 1895, Page 1, Column 6:
A Pioneer of Stark County Dead--Eighty-three Years Old--Children in Canton
Martin Shively, a pioneer farmer of Stark county, died at his home at Pleasant Valley, about three miles west of Minerva, about 9 o'clock Sunday morning.  Mr. Shively was eighty-three years of age and his death was due to blood poisoning, superinduced by kidney trouble.  Mr. Shively was born in Stark county and resided in the country all his life, the greatest part of his years being spent at or near his late farm.  Mr. Shively leaves nine children.  Mrs. C. L. Hiner and Mrs. Phlip Walters, of Canton are daughters of the deceased.  He has forty grandchildren, and two great grand children.  His wife died in 1869.  Funeral will take place Tuesday from his late home, interment in Liberty cemetery.

At least the following eleven known children were born to Martin Shively and  Barbary Wiemer:  Daniel Shively born 16-Nov-1842 and died 6-Apr-1914, buried in Liberty Cem., a Civil War veteran, married on 9-Nov-1878 in Stark County, OH to Wilma Etta Haun (born 3-Feb-1858 died 13-Jan-1938);   Susan Shively born Aug-1845 and died 4-Oct-1911, married on 2-Sep-1866 in Stark County, OH to Israel Totten who died before 1870; Samuel Shively who died 10-Oct-1848 at the age of 1 year, 3 months, 19 days and is buried in the Shively Cem. in Stark County, OH; Sarah Shively born 1849, married 21-Feb-1878 in Stark County, OH to Harrison Scranton (born 19-Dec-1843 died 10-May-1911); Abraham L. Shively born 17-Jan-1850 and died 23-June-1925 in Tampa, Hillsborough Co., Florida, married 1st to Sarah Jane Ackleson(born Apr-1849 died 5-Apr-1911), married 2nd to Alice Mary Doughty Dearmond (born 6-Apr-1848 died 21-Mar-1932); Benjamin Franklin  born 11-Jan-1853 and died 6-Mar-1938 in Carroll County, OH, never married; David F. Shively born 14-Oct-1854 and died 20-Oct-1936 in Wheeling, Ohio Co., WVA, married 15-Aug-1888 in Carroll County, OH to Jane Witherspoon(born 2-Aug-1854 died 18-Dec-1923); Mary C. Shively born 19-Apr-1857 and died 8-Sep-1944 in Akron, Summit Co., OH, married 3-Apr-1875 in Stark Co., OH to Phillip Walter (born 19-Jun-1850 died 5-May-1921); Rachael T. Shively  born July-1859 and died 18-Mar-1940 in Lincoln, Lancaster Co., NE, married 22-Jul-1879 in Stark Co., OH to Cicero L. Hiner (born 9-Jul-1856 died 8-Dec-1935);  Abbey Jane Shively born 10-Apr-1860 and died 21-Oct-1921, never married; Thomas Shively died 18-Jan-1867 and buried in Liberty Cem., Stark Co., OH.

Martin and Barbara Shively were located on the following census records:  1850 District No. 139, Paris Township, Stark County, OH and 1860 Paris Township, Stark County, OH.  Martin and children remaining at home are listed on the 1870 Paris Township, Stark County, OH census and 1880 Paris Township, Stark County, OH census.
