This site was created by Larry Shively who is researching the history of the Shively families. The goal is to have a site where all Shively researchers can share and ask questions in regards to their Shively lines. The largest majority of the Shively family records are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. There are early records of Shively's also in Virginia and Kentucky. There are not many established Shively lineages back to Europe. There are documented lineages to Switzerland and Germany. Through the sharing of information from all of our research it is desired that all can learn about our Shively families.

Silas Shively And Wife Amelia Bentz Who Lived In Goshen, Elkhart County, Indiana

Information on Silas Shively and wife, Amelia Bentz, is found in the Elkhart County, Indiana records.  The obituary for  Silas was extracted from The Elkhart Daily Review, Tuesday, October 6, 1896, Page 3, Column 2:    Silas Shively, aged 58 years, and an old resident of this city, died at his home, 417 South Sixth street, yesterday at 5 p.m., of cancer of the stomach, after an illness of several months.  He leaves a wife, two daughters and a son.  He was a veteran of the civil war, being a member of Co. C, 152 Ind. Regt., and also a member of the I.O.O.F. under whose auspices the funeral will be held from the home at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.   (Goshen News)

Resident Of County For 51 Years, Dies
Mrs. Silas Shively Succumbs To Complications
Was Oldest Member of M.E. Church Of Goshen And Was Well Known In This City
After three months' suffering from complication of diseases, Mrs. Silas (Amelia) Shively, a resident of Elkhart county for 51 years and a member of the Methodist Episcopal church in Goshen for the past 48 years, died at her late residence, 618 South Second street, in this city at 4:46 o'clock this morning.
Mrs. Shively was born in Marion, O., September 29, 1841, and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Bentz 51 years ago in April next, and shortly after her marriage moved with her husband to Goshen.  She came to this city ten years ago and has resided here since that time.
The deceased is survived by two daughters, Mrs. George Chester and Miss Daisy Shively, both of this city, and two brothers, Daniel Bentz, Custer, Ind., and John Bentz of Goshen, and one sister, Mrs. Eliza Hime of Indianapolis.
The funeral arrangements have not been completed as yet but the body will be shipped to Goshen for burial.

Silas Shively and family are located on the 1870 City of Goshen, 3rd Ward, Elkhart County, Ind. census.  Listed on the 1880 City of Goshen, Elkhart County census are Silas Shively age 42, wife Amelia age 39, son Enos J. age 18, daughter Mary A age 14 and daughter Daisy B age 4.  Amelia Shively is the head of the household on the 1900 Goshen City, Elkhart County census and the 1910 Elkhart City, 4th Ward, Elkhart County census.
