This site was created by Larry Shively who is researching the history of the Shively families. The goal is to have a site where all Shively researchers can share and ask questions in regards to their Shively lines. The largest majority of the Shively family records are located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. There are early records of Shively's also in Virginia and Kentucky. There are not many established Shively lineages back to Europe. There are documented lineages to Switzerland and Germany. Through the sharing of information from all of our research it is desired that all can learn about our Shively families.

Thomas Montgomery Shively And Wife, Ella Hoy, Who Lived In Union County, Pennsylvania

Thomas Montgomery Shively was born 27-Nov-1857 in Union County, PA and died 17-Oct-1921 in Mifflinburg, Union County, PA.  He was the son of Christian M. Shively (born 23-Nov-1817 in Union County, PA died 21-Nov-1880 in Union County, PA) and Anna Beaver (born 20-Ap4-1820 died 16-May-1863 in Union County, PA). Thomas Shively married Ella Hoy who was a daughter of Jonas Hoy and Elizabeth Gebhardt (Gephart). Ella was born on 24-Dec-1859 in Union County, PA and died 29-Apr-1931.  Thomas and Ella had one daughter, Mary Shively, who married Oscar Brouse.

The following was extracted from the Miltonian, Milton, Pennsylvania, Thursday, October 6, 1921, Page 4, Column 4:
Associate Judge Is Very Near Death
Thomas Shively, Associate Judge of Union County, is very near death as the result of a distressing accident on his farm late Tuesday afternoon two miles south of Mifflinburg. Workmen who were near Mr. Shively at the time of the accident state that he climbed to the top of the silo, in performing light duties, and had descended to a platform some eight feet from the bottom. Stepping from the ladder to the platform, the structure gave way, throwing him to the concrete below.
Medical aid was hurriedly summoned and the injured man was removed to his home, where he is now in an unconscious condition. The exact extent of his injuries has not yet been determined, but it is feared that there is a fracture of the skull. In landing, the man struck on his head.

Large Private Funeral And Impressive Ceremony Of I.O.O.F. At The Grave
Thomas Montgomery Shively, Associate Judge of the courts of Union County was laid to rest in the Mifflinburg Cemetery on Monday forenoon of this week. Funeral services were held at the late residence in Limestone Township.
Rev. Keifer of the Reformed Church of Mifflinburg officated. The remarks were touching and it was quiet evident that he had a good subject to use illustrating the earthly glories of human life.
Rev. Brown retired minister from Lewisburg, a former school mate and associate fittingly told of his impressions of the character and honor of the deceased.
At the grave the membership of the I.O.O.F. of Mifflinburg used their ritulaistic ceremony of which society Judge Shively was an active member.
Mr. Shively was born on the old Shively homestead at White Springs. He was aged 63 years and married Miss Ella Hoy, who together with one daughter, Miss Mary, survive him. He was a kind husband, a loving father and a respected citizen. With hosts of friends who will hold his remembrance and friendship and association dear.
Two brothers, Henry and Abner of Mifflinburg and two sisters, Mrs. John Driebelis and Miss Amanda Shively are living.

Aged Resident Of County Dies
Mrs. Ella Hoy Shively, age 71 years well known resident of Limestone township, passed away last Wednesday morning at six o'clock, in the Danville State hospital, after an illness of nine months caused by a complication of diseases.
The deceased was born in Limestone township on December 24, 1859, the daughter of Jonas and Elizabeth Hoy, both deceased.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Oscar Brouse, of Limestone township, and a brother, James Hoy, of Mifflinburg.
Private funeral services were held from her late home on Saturday morning at two o'clock, with Rev. Russell D. Custer, of Mifflinburg in charge. Burial was med in the Mifflinburg cemetery.
